Steve Wynn Week: Day 1 |
Love Me Anyway: Chris Eckman and I had been working on the music and melody for this song but I was absolutely stuck on the lyrics. The worst thing that can happen when writing a song is that you have "place-setting" lyrics that you don't like. You've been singing them, hearing their rhythm but you also know that they're not the ones you'll use (that story about Paul McCartney's 'Scrambled Eggs' becoming 'Yesterday' comes to mind). Anyway, time was running out during our session in Ljubljana and I knew that I wanted to record the song but just didn't know what to say. And then one night before I returned to my hotel Chris lent me a DVD of "The Piano Teacher," a very disturbing movie by German director Michael Haneke. I was mesmerized, shocked, blown away and distracted just enough where the words to this song just quickly poured out of me. Sometimes you just have to climb outside of yourself for a little while to get where you're going.
If you haven't already picked up this CD then do yourself a favor and grab a listen to a few of the songs off of this CD and learn more about Steve Wynn

Update: Blink-182's Barker and DJ AM Involved In Fatal Plane Crash |
Billboard reports that "The medical director of the burn hospital where former Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker and DJ AM are being treated says both men are expected to make full recoveries." more
TMZ reported on Saturday that "Travis Barker has been burned from his waste down, but he is expected to survive the plane crash. DJ AM's face was severely burned and is being tended to right now." We also learned from TMZ that is a was for a joyous occasion that the plane was chartered: We've now learned why Barker and his friends decided to get on that doomed lear jet in South Carolina late last night, and the explanation can only be described as a horribly cruel twist of fate.
It all started some time yesterday, when Barker's assistant, Chris Baker, told the guys that his wife was going into labor. Barker told him that he would do everything in his power to get Baker back to the hospital in time. The quickest way back to Van Nuys was that Lear jet. We're told Barker usually won't fly on private jets, but made an exception for what was supposed to be one of the happiest moments of Baker's life.

Carmine Appice's Dream Gigs |
antiMusic: At this point in your career, you have played with a who's who of rock names from Beck to Pink Floyd. Is there anybody you wish you had played with or a project you wish you had been involved with?
Carmine: I mean, I wish Led Zeppelin would have continued and I ended up playing with them, replacing my friend John Bonham who you know, listened to my playing and had a lot of the same kind of feel and fills the way I play it, I think I would have fit in really well with Led Zeppelin. I would have maybe liked to do that. Otherwise, there's not really anybody that I would think, wow I wish I could havewell maybe there is. Maybe I wish I would have played with the Police. (laughs)
antiMusic: (laughs) I didn't expect that.
Carmine: There you go. I love The Police. I love the kind of music. I love what they're doing. I think the drum parts are great. I would play them like Stewart Copeland because you know, he came up with a whole new style of drumming, as far as I'm concerned. But you know, pretty much, I don't sit there and go, man I wish I would have played with Clapton, or I wish I would have played with, I don't know, (laughs) Nirvana. (laughs) You know what I mean?

Miley Wants To Ditch Hannah Montana? |
Billy Ray has also made it clear that there is more money in singing than a Disney cable show. As a result, the father daughter team has been showing up to the set ridiculously late, stalling production and infuriating cast and crew.
Sources tell us Billy Ray has told people on the set that he and Miley will do twelve more episodes and then they are out. Disney was so pissed they called his agent, railing that Billy Ray and Miley were ingrates. Disney insisted that Billy Ray and Miley not only finish the twenty-four episode season -- but Disney was adding six more episodes.

Silversun Pickups Hope To Swoon With Their Next Album |
Silversun Pickups' origins, and eventually songs, spawned from a live stage setting - namely small clubs on the eastside of Los Angeles. They toyed with sound, tried out line-ups, pondered even being a band... then songs materialized. And bloomed. EP Pikul, came next, followed by Carnavas, all written on stage.
Today, with experience in tow and innumerable frequent flyer miles logged, the quartet is taking a new approach to recording. "As of right now this record is very different because we've written everything at once. The first one was very much scraping together a lot of the songs we've written over the years," explains Aubert. He continues, "For Carnavas, because we were coming off of Pikul, we stripped it of the organics, got rid of the strings and warmer sounds. Now that we are jumping off from Carnavas we are putting some of that stuff back."
