Earshot Week: Day 1 |
Now Wil tells us about the infectious first single from the album: "MisSunderstood" was the first song written out of all the songs on the record, and it came just after coming off the road in support of our 2nd album 'Two'.
It came to me very easily and was originally a song about myself being frustrated and feeling like I had given and done everything I could for something yet still ended up left with nothing. I knew a girl that was a good friend of mine that felt the same, and in me trying to help council her the chorus of the song lyrically was inspired. THIS SONG ROCKS.

Shots Fired At L.A. Guns Show |
(The Phil Lewis version of) L.A. Guns were performing at the venue when shots were fired. Singer/guitarist Phil Lewis sent BW&BK the following note regarding the show:
"Back at the hotel early tonight on account of our show getting abruptly shut down because a gun fight erupting adjacent to the stage. Up until that point the day was peachy, county fair kind of thing kiddy rides, funnel cakes etc in the parking lot of the Qwest Center in Omaha NB. We hit the stage at 10 pm and the place was rocking, All age gig, tons of kids up front lots of fans that always show up when ever we play, great stage sound and lights. Perfect. Until I noticed during 'Over The Edge' three songs in to our set a stampede of at least a hundred people running through the crowd from right too left at full panic speed closely followed by cops and security giving the cut throat stop the show signal that took a moment to sink in before we quit playing and within seconds several cops with guns drawn formed a blanket around us and whisked us back to the dressing room.

In related Metallica news, Blabbermouth an interesting tidbit that the Beatallica concept might actually come true with the metal heavy weights jamming with Beatle legend Paul McCartney. At least that's the way the UK press report they cited makes it sound, but further reading puts that in doubt. It vaguely looks like both are set to appear on a BBC TV show along with French first lady Carla Bruni Sarkozy. read the report

If we are to believe Barack Obama's press agents over at NBC News, the senator walks on water. But now they may be able to honestly claim that Obama resurrected The Dead... The Grateful Dead that is. At this point the reports originate out of the UK music press, so we're not sure how much stock to put into them since the reports we have read contain absolutely no sources (as usual) but Hippies can read more here from a UK source that honestly reports this as a rumor. In the interest of equal time: will McCain now try and arrange for an Abba reunion?

Bury Your Guitarist |
Durability is often the key to a band's longevity, and where Massachusetts's metalcore high rollers Bury Your Dead is concerned, there's no exception. Speculation surrounding the longstanding hiatus of guitarist Eric Ellis has been accumulating since winter and topped out once longtime friend and (for some) former bandmate, Chris Towning, began appearing in Ellis' place at shows in late March. Soon after, the reformed lineup quickly established a positive working atmosphere and are now fully acknowledging Ellis's removal from his duties due to "medical reasons and personality differences."
"When a person's attitude and lifestyle change for the worse, there comes a time to let go and move on. A team is only as strong as its weakest link." This goodbye solidified Towning's permanent position in the band.

Hagar Releases Right Now Sequel, Hopes Songs Will Inspire Pres Candidates |
Hagar took the opposite approach and seems pleased that his the lyrics are still relevant today. A thought which is echoed in new his song, which he co-wrote with an Iraqi musician. Hagar said in a statement: "When I wrote the lyrics to 'Right Now', I intended them to inspire people to not sit around and wait for something they believed in but to go out and get it, to make a change however they needed to. Whether it was McCain who used the song or if Obama had chosen to use the song, with the current political climate, the lyrics still have the same meaning, and we all need to do something to make a difference, every action counts.
"In fact, I still feel so strongly about this that I wrote a new song 'Cosmic Universal Fashion' with a young Iraqi musician in an attempt to motivate a new generation to the same affect. I am pleased to be associated with the lyrics to my original song and the new one in hopes that both will make people move to make a difference."
