The 88 Week: Day 3 |
We Felt Alive: The original idea came from a jam session during a rehearsal. It's a good representation of the joy we felt making music together at that time.
The song is about being young and adventurous, and excited about living. It reminds me of being 18 or so, when the world seemed wide open to me and I could do absolutely anything I wanted. And I think we felt that way as a band when this song was written.

Good news for California criminals. If you get convicted of a crime you can now claim discrimination! Jurors in the Britney Spears trial remained deadlocked 10-2 on whether she was guilty of driving without a valid California license Tuesday. A mistrial was declared, prosecutors said they wouldn't pursue the matter further more. Hum, what's so hard? A child could figure this case out. She was driving + She didn't have a license = Guilty! Guess they really were a jury of her peers.

Kerrang! Radio keeps the hilarity going with this gem: "Reports that Jack White was being lined up as the new Led Zeppelin frontman have been rubbished today....There were rumors doing the rounds the White Stripes frontman had been approached to tour with Jimmy Page & John Paul Jones." Had we heard this rumors we would have seen them as rubbish on their face. But hey! It's a fun headline. Besides we'd like to see Jack Black front the band.

Iranian Metal Band Object To Being Marketed As Terrorist |
"Attention please! During the recording days of All in Blood with You we were contacted by a guy from Russian Slayer fan club. He told us that he was going to prepare a tribute album with worldwide participants, celebrating 25 years of slayer. We accepted the offer and recorded Blood Red off the classic Seasons in the Abyss. The track and the signed contract were sent to him. For months we were sending him emails following the project and yet there were no proper responses.
Finally after almost a year we were informed that the album was going to be out early September 2008. We found a promo video about this album in You Tube. The video represents the bands involved in the Cd, Sliding the images while captioning the band names. When it comes to Ahoora, you'll see a picture of four suicide bombers with name Ahoora!!! "These two records happen to be Frank's masterworks," Zappa tells Billboard.com, "so this is the most ambitious of all the (40th anniversary) projects. The challenge is how to educate the audience to understand what 'Lumpy Gravy' and 'We're Only in It for the Money' are, and what they're part of.

Lindsey Buckingham Interview Preview Pt 2 |
antiMusic: Do you feel it's just generally easier to get your musical ideas across with you executing all positions?)
Lindsey: Ah, I don't know if it's easier or not, but you know, it's two different things. When you work with Fleetwood Mac say, obviously you've got to go in with something that's a little more fleshed out as a song because you have to present something tangible. I think the actual process of making a song from start to finish is probably a little more like movie-making when you're talking about working with a band because it's way more verbalized. It's certainly more political, the choices you make, you talk about them. It's obviously a synthesis of everyone's sensibilities.
When I work alone, I mean, that's a whole other way of working. It tends to be at times. It may not have been on Say You Will because all of that material pretty much had been completed. But on most of the solo work, you could make the analogy that it's more like painting because I don't think you necessarily have to have the song in as completed a form. And normally when I'm working on solo stuff, I leave the songs in a less fleshed out form purposely. Obviously that wouldn't work if you were trying to sit down with four or five other people and say, what are we playing? And I'd say: well I don't know.
It's more like a painter who may have a sort of intention or sort of a clue about what he wants to do but he's not that worried about where he ends up. And you start slopping the paint on the canvas and it eventually will become something. And the writing and the actual recording of the song almost become one thing. So I guess that's how I look at the solo work or why I tend to do a lot of things myself, because it becomes part and parcel with the writing.
If you still haven't picked up Gift of Screws and need further convincing, would a 5 Star review sway you? While we wait for the next installment in the interview you can check out what Kevin Wierzbicki had to say about the album
