Gojira Week: Final Day |
"Adoration For None": We invited Randy Blythe from Lamb Of God on this song. Having him contribute to the album means a lot to us. LOG brought us to the States on their Sacrament US Tour last year, and it was an incredible experience and huge opportunity for Gojira to play in front of a large and open-minded audience. Randy is definitely our biggest supporter in the States and we became good friends. The title "Adoration For None" fits perfectly with his personality. He came to France to work with us in our hometown of Bayonne, to write and record the vocals, and we had a great time visiting and eating local food. He's a great singer and also an amazing human being, down to earth and passionate.
Guns N' Roses Chinese Democracy Track List, Cover Art and New Release Date |
As we previous reported it does look like the album will come in different flavors with at least two different album covers. Right now Best Buy is listing two CD versions with different covers, showing artwork for one. It appears fans will have the same artwork options for vinyl versions of the album.
It has been widely reported that the album would hit stores with an unusual Sunday release on Nov. 23rd, however the retailer is listing a release date of Nov 25th, which falls on the traditional Tuesday.
As for the songs, the album will feature 14 tracks. Only three have previously not been let out in wild either from live performances or online leaks. Billboard reports that "the only three unfamiliar tracks are 'Scraped,' 'Sorry' and 'Prostitute,' while a song originally known as 'The Blues' appears to have been renamed 'Street of Dreams.'"

Begin sarcasm. The Bon Jovi lawsuit we reported about last week has now gone from a John Grisham novel to an out and out conspiracy theory. Bart Steele posted a new blog where he says the press is twisting his lawsuit for sensational purposes and says that he isn't claiming that Bon Jovi stole his song or lyrics as many in the press have reported, but rather TBS and Major League Baseball used his song as the template for their advertisement and Bon Jovi may have been a unknowing accomplice. That's not how we read the complaint, but that is how he is clarifying things now. But we're not lawyers so something might have been lost in legalese translation. To understand the concept of the template, a possible frame of reference would be how Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" album mysteriously matches up with 'The Wizard of Oz.' Was that intentional or not? Only Roger Waters knows for sure. Did something like that happen in this case? That will be up to a jury to decide if the case makes it that far. But be warned that we may have this new twist all wrong too. For now it's kind of fun for us to be considered part of a complicated conspiracy theory. For the record, when he sent us a copy of the lawsuit, we did ask Mr. Steele if he could provide a statement explaining his allegations but he did not provide one. But we didn't intentional twist anything and did provide the copy of the lawsuit so the readers could review it for themselves. This report may or may not have been unintentionally inspired by copyright infringement claims we have reported about in the past or a bad Mel Gibson movie. We're not sure ourselves. Maybe the Wizard knows? Sarcasm off. You can read Bart's new blog where he explains the case as well as read the lawsuit and some of the history

Stayin Alive Can Literally Save Your Life |
The American Heart Association calls for chest compressions to be given at a rate of 100 per minute in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). "Stayin' Alive" almost perfectly matches that, with 103 beats per minute.
CPR is a lifesaving technique involving chest compressions alone or with mouth-to-mouth rescue breathing. It is used in emergencies such as cardiac arrest in which a person's breathing or heartbeat has stopped.

Singled Out: Kevin Godley |
"beautifulloser.com" is real. Felt like ----. Looked like ----. Felt like my career was over and I was about to spiral down the plughole when I heard someone on TV use the words beautiful loser and it rang a deep, dark bell. I grabbed something and held on. I wouldn't get sucked into oblivion until I wrote this down. What if there was a website where rich and talented people end up when they have nothing left? A site where the cruel, empty or simply curious could log onto to witness their humiliation and, if they were really lucky, death. The way things were heading it didn't seem that far fetched so, not being technologically gifted or sick enough to build the real thing, I wrote a lyric.
The words spewed out in a week. Lots of them. A man is haunted by his younger self and filled with regret at turning into the online business monster that, unwittingly, creates the circumstances for his old friend's death. Couldn't stop the words or the ghosts. They're still coming two years on from recording the song. A tiny edit removing the phrase 'And her face shows every line she's taken' regrettably made the cut flow better. I know the song is about me but am I the haunted man or the suicidal woman? Two things I learned writing and recording it I need collaborators to bring the best of the worst to the surface and I still can't do brevity.
A sobering true story as postscript: March 23 2007. Kevin Whitrick 42, a father of twins who apparently killed himself live on an internet web cam was suffering ill health following a serious car accident last year. A post mortem carried out today confirmed the cause of death as hanging.
Now that you know the story behind the song, you can listen for yourself and learn more about GG/06 (Godley and Gouldman)
