Gojira Week: Day 3
antiMusic reports: France isn't exactly the country you think of when you think of heavy metal but heavy rockers Gojira are out to change that perception. The band hit record stores this week with their new album ''The Way of All Flesh," and to celebrate the release we asked frontman Joe Duplantier to pick his favorite tracks from the disc and tell us a little about each one. Here is Joe with today's song:

"A Sight To Behold": We have a small vocoder in our rehearsal room so Mario, our drummer, can explain his ideas with the keyboard instead of trying to sing the melodies. It's a good way to communicate between a drummer and a guitarist. Sometimes we jam together with this vocoder and we find some very cool sounds. On this song we decided to use one of the sounds that we really like. We usually never use keyboards or electronic stuff, but on this part we needed something different, something cold and straight. The lyrics are about human's abusive behavior toward nature so this cold vibe was exactly what we needed.

Linkin Park Announce Revolutionary Release
PR reports: Linkin Park has announced a November 25th release date for Road To Revolution (Machine Shop Recordings/Warner Bros. Records), a CD/DVD combo featuring 18 of the group's biggest hits recorded live in concert.

The double-disc set captures the band's June 29, 2008 show at the Milton Keynes National Bowl during the sold-out European leg of this past summer's Projekt Revolution tour. Linkin Park's Projekt Revolution has become one of the summer concert season's annual heavyweights and the Milton Keynes gigplayed to a packed house crowd of almost 50,000 peoplewas the biggest in the tour's six-year history.

"Over the course of the past few years, we've played more than two hundred Projekt Rev shows to hundreds of thousands of fans, and while each of those gigs has been special, the Milton Keynes show has been one of the most memorable," says Linkin Park co-lead vocalist Chester Bennington. "It was one of those nights where the band and audience come together as one, and we wanted to share that experience with the fans that couldn't be there."

Guns N' Pepper Stunt Going Forward?
Music Radar reports: Guns N' Roses members have traditionally taken their drinks hard rather than soft. However, if, as predicted, the band's long awaited new album does see the light of day on 23 November, people across America could be toasting its arrival with Dr Pepper.

Back in March, the drinks company claimed that it would give away a can of its fizzy brew to everyone in the US should Chinese Democracy be released in 2008, and a spokesperson has now indicated that it may be prepared to honour this deal.

Commenting on the potential launch, Dr Pepper's vice president of marketing Tony Jacobs said: "We're waiting to hear about Chinese Democracy just like all the other GN'R fans. But if the rumours are true, we're putting the Dr Pepper on ice."

"Save You" which is also found on Simple Plan's self-titled third studio album will be released worldwide via iTunes, available in the U.S. and Canada on October 14th.

"Save You" was penned in tribute to lead singer Pierre Bouvier's brother Jay, who was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma cancer at the age of 28. Tim McGraw Apologizes To Fans For Hits Package
Tim McGraw Statement reports: Curb Records released a third hits package on Tim McGraw last week, a CD that was put into record stores without his involvement.

McGraw has been working on a new studio album for over a year and debuted three new songs on this year's "Live Your Voice Tour." It was his desire to have the new record out this fall but Curb wanted to release a greatest hits CD to extend McGraw's term.

"I am saddened and disappointed that my label chose to put out another hits album instead of new music," said Tim McGraw. "I've only had one studio album since my last hits package. It has to be just as confusing to the fans as it is to me," said Tim McGraw.

The 100 Greatest Metal Guitarists
PR reports: Rock author Joel McIver's twelfth book, The 100 Greatest Metal Guitarists, will be published globally in January 2009 by Jawbone Press, the world's leading publisher of guitar titles.

Featuring a foreword by Glen Benton of Deicide, the book takes the reader in reverse order from No. 100 to No. 1, the greatest metal guitarist of all time. McIver a regular contributor to Total Guitar magazine, the biggest guitar mag in Europe based his selection on the technical ability and historical significance of each player and adds that all generations of metal are covered in the book, with the oldest guitarist aged 61 and the youngest a mere 26.

McIver says, "The idea for this book came to me a couple of years ago after I read a list of the supposed 100 best metal guitarists of all time in a popular guitar magazine that should really know better. The list contained all these non-metal guitarists like Neil Young and Kurt Cobain, so I thought, 'Screw this!' and wrote my own list, which became an 80,000-word book."

Def Leppard Turns NHL Opener Upside Down
BW&BK reports: So by now, most have heard of Def Leppard singer Joe Elliott's little mistake of putting the Stanley Cup upside down during the band's NHL Face Off Rocks season opening celebration concert this past Thursday, October 9th in Detroit.

Elliot explains: "I will, as always, take full responsibility for what happened because I have big pucks. However, someone at the NHL should have known better and informed me first instead of keeping the Stanley Cup under lock and key until the last minute.

"The practice run the day before with a coffeemaker went swimmingly because it, like every other sporting cup I've ever seen, was wider at the top than the base. Ironic isn't it that after that night's gig, a NHL insider told me that long ago the Stanley Cup was also designed to be put down that way!!! - more on this story including video

Singled Out: Miniature Tigers
antiMusic reports: Welcome to Singled Out! where we ask artists to tell us the inside story of their latest single. Today Miniature Tigers frontman Charlie Brand tells us about "Cannibal Queen" from their new album 'Tell It To The Volcano' which is out now on iTunes. We now turn it over to Charlie for the story:

At the time I wrote Cannibal Queen I was obsessed with both cannibals and the band ABBA. I think the word cannibal almost implies something negative or dark but really it's just a straight forward love song about being in a new relationship. When working out the melody and lyrics the song had more of a straight forward strumming and was not as energetic. I started recording a demo in my garageband and for some reason it felt too simple or like I had done this song a million times before. So I trashed what I had done and decided to reapproach it. I was in the height of my ABBA phase and had the thought to try and make an ABBA-like song. This is probably where the influence of the guitar line came from and some of the overall vibe of the song. I always meant to add their classic doubled piano to a part of the song but either forgot or was too lazy, can't remember which.

Months later we went into the studio to start recording Tell It To The Volcano. By this time we had already played Cannibal Queen live a few times and had a better idea of what we wanted it to sound like on the record. As a starting point I brought in a few ABBA songs and Blondie's "Heart of Glass" as a reference. We recorded it and then added a cluster---- of "Blondie" synths over the song. Later that night on the drive home Rick and I agreed that it had taken a wrong turn and we should cut the synths. This song took the most time to get right on the album, nearly giving up at one point. The song finally took shape and while I'm not sure if it's a convincing ABBA rip off, I still love it.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story before the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album - right here!
