Did Oasis Rip Off Cliff Richard Song? |
Noel, Liam Gallagher and company posted the song on their MySpace page last week ahead of Dig Out Your Soul's release today (Oct. 6), and almost immediately, Cliff Richard fans began writing on the singer's website about what they say is an uncanny resemblance.
One user by the name of Rolybunny says, "This is a rip-off. What'll they do next? Remix Mistletoe and Wine?" On the other hand, some Richard fans are elated, viewing the similarities as something of an honor for the aging pop star. Janine Castle, from the International Cliff Richard Movement, says, "I'm astounded Oasis use Cliff as their muse - but delighted. I can hear the similarities. It's about time Cliff's musical genius got some recognition."

Miley Still Not Legal |
AP reports: "The theme park was closed for the supersized soiree, which included a four-song performance by the teen queen and a fireworks display above Sleeping Beauty Castle and 16 giant inflatable candles. 'Miley is really hard to surprise,' her father Billy Ray Cyrus said at the event."
Anyway, this is probably all a bit premature, because Miley Cyrus doesn't even turn 16 until November 23. Her actual birthday will be marked with a far more intimate affair - we hear Billy Ray Cyrus plans to send a giant nuclear-powered robot into space to punch the sun out for her or something.

Interpol and Swervedriver Team For Magnetic Morning |
Fogarino planted the seeds of what would become Magnetic Morning songs even before he joined Interpol, but grew frustrated by an inability to find collaborators. "It is hard working with people that have the ability to write their own songs because in the end that is what they want to do," Fogarino says, adding, "I would get started with people and then it would fall apart." Calling the opportunity to work with Franklin, "beyond mind-blowing," Fogarino reveals the band's sound is shaped by the collaborative songwriting process, which sees both members operating in roles different from their previous work. "The songs are a testament to Franklin and Fogarino's willingness to step away from their individual musical calling cards; there's no screeching distortion or three-guitar jams a la Swervedriver, and the music is considerably looser than Interpol's buttoned-up rock," noted Magnet.

Singled Out: Passenger |
I'm going to tell you about our song "table for one", the idea for the song came about on a blustery London night. My song writing partner Andrew and I were in the capital to play a small acoustic show to a polite and listening audience at a place called the globe theatre in Balham. After the show had finished, we found our selves in a typical English pub (well I say typically English, unfortunately most have now turned in to trendy wine bars with uncomfortable seats and soulless decor) so lets call it a traditional English pub, one with deep red upholstery and needless trinkets nailed to the wall, the kind of pub that you have to bend down to get inside because it was built in a time when humans were a foot smaller.
As we sat there slowly drinking our Guiness, we talked about the gig as usual, the things that worked, the things that didn't, the crazy woman in the front row with the Passenger t shirt on that comes to all our gigs. But as the night drew on, we suddenly became aware of the fact that all the remaining customers in the pub (of which there were about seven) were all single, middle aged men , drinking in silence, alone .
This got Andrew and I on to the subject of loneliness and more specifically the type of loneliness that you see in men. Not that women don't get lonely of course but there is a heavy, thudding, staring in to the bottom of they're 7th pint glass type of loneliness that I've seen in men across the country my entire life.
