Quiet Riot Vs Air Supply TV
BW&BK reports: Quiet Riot Allstars on Rock and A Hard Place TV show: Quiet Riot vs Air Supply Premiers Tuesday, November 25th on Direct TV's 101 Network. Frankie Banali explains how this came about: "In January 2008, I was approached by the talent agency that books the artists that appear on the Meat Loaf-hosted Rock And A Hard Place music game show for Direct TV's channel 101 Network. They asked me to put together a three person group to appear on the game show. My first reaction was to make sure that they were aware that Kevin DuBrow had passed away in November 2007 just two months prior to receiving this request.

They explained that they were aware of Kevin's passing and offered their condolences, but still wanted to know if I would put something together for the appearance. My first question was to know the object of doing the show. They informed me of the show's format and that the winning dollar amount would be donated to a charity of my choice. That being the case I made sure that they understood that if I were to agree they would have to bill it as the Quiet Riot Allstars rather that just as Quiet Riot. I told the agency that I would have to get back to them with my decision.

I gave careful consideration to what sort of a Quiet Riot Allstar lineup I would put together. At no time did I consider including the so called 'Metal Health' lineup for this appearance. This was based on many reasons but the most obvious ones were the great deal of speculation and fanning of the fires for Quiet Riot to continue with a singer to replace Kevin. That was not an option or a consideration on my part from the moment that Kevin passed away and I still feel that way. I did not want to give anyone the impression that this could be the precursor to a reunion. - more on this story

Hollywood Landmark Celebrates Jim Morrison's Birthday
PR reports: On December 8, The Doors' Jim Morrison would have celebrated his 65th birthday. This year, the momentous occasion will be marked at Barney's Beanery, the legendary West Hollywood hangout on Route 66, which served as a stomping ground and home away from home for the rock icon. Since moving to its current Santa Monica Blvd. location in 1927 from Berkeley, the historic venue has hosted a variety of counter cultural legends over the years from the worlds of avant-garde art, movies, literature and rock and roll.

Both Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger of The Doors will be on hand that evening for a special live broadcast on L.A. rock station 95.5 KLOS, hosted by famed "Last D.J.," Jim Ladd. The three will discuss and sign copies of Live at The Matrix 1967, a live CD on The Doors' Bright Midnight Archives and Rhino Records. The two-CD set, which was recorded in San Francisco over two nights in March '67, will be available on November 18th. The shows took place shortly before the group broke on through with their hit Summer of Love single, "Light My Fire." Winners of a 95.5 KLOS contest will get to meet and greet Manzarek and Krieger.

"We decided to celebrate this occasion because Barney's is a place where Jim Morrison hung out often," says Barney's Beanery principal David Houston, who bought the place in 1999 from Erwin Held. He is only the third person to own the famed venue after original founder John "Barney" Anthony and Held. "Whatever point in time you go back to, whoever was making history in pop culture, they seemed to have a foot in the Beanery."

Free Holiday Cheers From The Priestess And The Fool
PR reports: Following marathon eggnog sessions and several aggressive battles with a Yule log, The Priestess And The Fool present Ride On, Santa, the free downloadable EP of Christmas cheer for all to enjoy from Exotic Recordings.

A collection of re-imagined holiday music for scrooges, atheists, and all types of bah-humbuggery, Ride On, SantA features old classics, cult Muppets and a drunken '80s Irish Pogue... not even Three Wise Men could have predicted this gift under the Christmas tree.

The Priestess And The Fool is the cover- song collaboration between Meredith Dimenna (Saint Bernadette) and Brian Grosz (Dogs Of Winter) and proves once again that strange bedfellows can make for beautiful music. She croons and he crows. She serenades and he snarls. She's the brass and he's the tarnish. When brought together for the Holiday season, all 'Good Will Toward Men' is in jeopardy. - more on this story

Other special guests on the new album include Randall Bramblett on keyboards and background vocals and James Pennebaker on steel guitar and mandolin. Besides the band's originals, additional songs were written by Randall Bramblett, Walt Aldridge, Steve Conn and Jim Bickerstaff. . Beyonce - I Am... Sasha Fierce
Beyonce's not an A-grade talent, but you can't tell me that "Crazy In Love" and "Irreplaceable" are not great pop singles, because they are. I wish I could say the same about the songs on her latest album, 'I Am... Sasha Fierce'. (1.5 stars) - Read the full Beyonce - I Am... Sasha Fierce review
