On June 10th Dolby and Invisible Hands Music will release a deluxe live CD and DVD. Called The Sole Inhabitant, material for the discs was culled from Dolby's 2006 US tour of the same name. Previously released in Europe, the two-disc set will now be available to fans in the United States.
Dolby's set includes the powerful yet ethereal "Leipzig Is Calling," folds a sample of Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech into "The Flat Earth," and puts a fresh face on popular favorites "Hyperactive" and "She Blinded Me With Science." On the DVD, the visuals along with Dolby's engaging and informative stage banter, give a rich interpretation of the narrative of each song. The DVD also gives greater insight into Dolby's artistry with a sit-down interview, a detailed explanation of his rig and a personal walk-through of how he creates a song.
Critics across the US had high praise for The Sole Inhabitant Tour. The Washington Post said, "Dolby sounded startlingly relevant, no easy trick for a talented artist whose entire career is usually unfairly surmised in a single, shouted phrase." And the Chicago Tribune added, "the evening unfolded as a celebration of [Dolby's] past accomplishments and a harbinger for his future as a revitalized performer." The Sole Inhabitant documents this fantastic trip to the inner world of Thomas Dolby, a voyage he wants to share.
