Before we begin, we took a lot of heat for yesterday's sarcastic spelling of Chile. We're sure it is a fine country, but we were really poking a little fun at the band in the article (an off hand comparison to a not so great restaurant chain) and it seemed to go over like New Coke. Granted it wasn't funny but neither are 90% of SNL's skits. So have some baby back ribs and lighten up. We promise no Turkey jokes, but all this talk of food is making us Hungry.
Armed Forces Week: Day 4 "Rock N Roll N*gger Part Two" |
It's no secret that I'm a huge fan of punk rock, so I wrote this one as a throwback to the music I grew up on. The spirit of rock and roll has always been loud, fast, and dangerous and punk's always been fun for me cause they say anyone can do it. In the end it became a contest with myself to see how many parts I could cram into less than a minute, and I like that it feels like it ends before it really starts.
The lyrics are about being tired of getting talked down to, and trying to throw it back in the faces of the people who think they're better than you. Terms like "punk" and "------" and "faggot" are commonplace in society today, and the notion that certain people are inferior to others is absurd to me. My response is to be loud and proud about what I wanna do and let anybody that has a problem with it know that they can f*ck themselves. Ironically, what is supposed to be a rallying cry for anyone who's ever been discriminated against just gets me labeled as a racist...obviously missing the point.
Now go learn more about the group, check out some songs from the CD and see if you spot something rather interesting about

Guns N' Soda: A Plan for Chinese Democracy |
In an unprecedented show of solidarity with Axl, everyone in America, except former GN'R guitarists Slash and Buckethead, will receive a free can of Dr Pepper if the album ships some time anytime! in 2008. Dr Pepper supports Axl, and fully understands that sometimes you have to make it through the jungle before you get it right.
Commented Axl Rose in a statement: "We are surprised and very happy to have the support of Dr. Pepper with our album, 'Chinese Democracy', as for us this came totally out of the blue. If there is any involvement with this promotion by our record company or others, we are unaware of such at this time. And as some of Buckethead's performances are on our album, I'll share my Dr Pepper with him."

Outkast Overdose |
The 34-year-old actor and personal trainer, who appeared alongside Big Boi in 2007's movie Who's Your Caddy? had a history of being dependent on painkillers and was set to enter a rehab facility, his father Roy Tatum said.
"He was in the process of getting his life back together," Roy Tatum told the Atlanta-Journal Constitution on Monday (Mar 24). "He was confident he was going to turn things around, to live a normal life again without the painkillers."

Police sources tell us Sambora has not been charged with endangerment but the Laguna Beach P.D. is "actively investigating."
And, police sources say, after Sambora was busted the cops called Heather Locklear, Ava's mom. We're told Heather authorized the other adult in the car to drive her daughter home.

Kill All Emos Pt II |
According to Hernandez, "The movement is being generated on message boards and social networking sites by non-emo youth who highly dislike like the emo look and attitude. The spark came first in Queretaro on March 7. An estimated 800 young people poured into the city's Centro Historico hunting for emos to beat the crap out of. They found some.
"The next weekend it spread to Mexico City, where emos faced off against punks and rockabillies at the Glorieta de Insurgents, the epicenter of emo social space in the capital. There's also been reports of anti-emo violence in Durango, Colima, and elsewhere."
Diddy Vs LA Times |
The story ran first on the L.A. Times' web site on March 17, and was then published a day later in the paper. When Diddy's attorney, Howard Weitzman, read the story online, he sent a letter to the Times asking them to "refrain from reprinting [the article] and that the false accusation be immediately be retracted." The paper did nothing.
Diddy's lawyer tells TMZ, "The Times completely ignored my letter, did nothing to correct their defamatory article, and never held the reporter, Chuck Philips, to the Code of Ethics the paper supposedly had set for its writers. We will continue to seek a retraction and to pursue appropriate remedies given the egregious and reckless conduct of Mr. Philips and the L.A. Times."

Corgan Slams Music Biz |
Corgan: We've been treated very poorly by [Virgin] as a label for years now. Even when we were going to put the band back together, we went to them for the umpteenth time and said, look, it's a natural thing to want to put out a best of, and they keep telling us nobody cares. And then to turn around and use us like this against our will obviously shows you how full of ---- they are, because obviously you have value or they wouldn't be trying to make money on you on the side. And in our case we actually have the right to say no to these types of things. They had to ask our permission to put our music on iTunes. So this is just them getting really sneaky trying to push stuff through, because the only place they're going to get money now is from corporate sponsors.
And look, it's no secret that the record labels are out of touch. They've lost money continuously for seven or eight years and they continue to hold on to the Titanic. This is just another indication of them thinking that they can get away with whatever because they're the big old record business. You know, Josh Homme from Queens [Of The Stone Age] came out talking about Interscope, Trent Reznor ... It's a very difficult position because whether it's blogs or people posting on Web sites, fans can get very frustrated about what they perceive about how you do your business, not being aware of how we continually have a gun pointed at our head.

Ra Start Label and Plan New Release |
Here is what the band had to say on their Myspace: Sahaj has entered into an exclusive label deal with Universal Music Distribution. Sahaja Music Records will be releasing several albums over the next year or so. At he top of the list of course will be the long awaited "Black sun" lp by RA. It's been a crazy year thus far for Sahaj having ruptured a disk in his back and having surgery to correct it while trying to complete not only "Black Sun" but his yearly musical obligations to ESPN and a handful of bands that hired him for there recordings all the while trying to negotiate a deal with UMD to have a real distribution in place for all his endeavors.
RA's new single "Broken hearted soul" moves to radio and becomes available on I-tunes mid April while "Black Sun" finally hits the stores late June... 3 years to the month after the release of "Duality". The band is excited to get out and play shows as well as connecting with friends here [on Myspace].

Mother Nature Doesn't Like Fall Out Boy |
Here is part of Montgomery's report for MTV: On Tuesday, when he wasn't giving faux weather reports, Pete Wentz was, like the rest of us, reading about the collapse of Antarctica's Wilkins Ice Shelf, a slab of ice reported to be seven times the size of Manhattan (but, you know, not nearly as interesting).
Fortunately, we have a reporter in the area. I asked Wentz what he thought of the whole thing and he said, "Someone sent (the story) to me and they're like 'Oh now you guys are going and this ice shelf fell that wasn't supposed to fall for another 15 years." And I'm like, 'We didn't even land there so that wasn't even our fault."

Kanye Jacked Good Life? |
In a rambling lawsuit filed in Maryland District Court, Dayna Staggs (aka D'Mystro) is suing Kanye -- and his record label, Roc-a-Fella -- for copyright infringement. Staggs says that West "didn't obtain a license to use 'Volume of Good Life'" for his tune, and points out that Kanye was "only at the age of 6 or 7 years of age [sic]" when his song was written.
D'Mystro is also peeved because Kanye's song "contains vulgar and offensive" images and "harms the reputation" of his much cleaner song. He wants 85% of all world sales of the proceeds from the music that uses his work

McCartney Remembers Neil Aspinall |
Aspinall was a longtime friend of the band and began working with them as a driver and eventually ascended to the head of their company Apple Corps Ltd until he resigned last year.
Paul said of his friend in a message on his website "Neil was a great man who I knew even before I met any of the guys in The Beatles. I met him at school when we were both eleven and we remained friends ever since. I was able to say goodbye and thank him for everything he did for us and I send my deepest loving sympathies to his wonderful family. I will miss him but will remember the laughs, there were plenty."

Top 5 Reasons Why Axl is Better Than Weiland |
I, for one, was excited when I heard that Slash, Duff and Matt were teaming up for a new group. The first info out was that Josh Todd was to front the group. I had my reservations when I heard this because, while Todd has a powerful voice, he's not that dynamic of a singer. Apparently the group agreed and he was out of the running. Then a host of names were floated, included a longtime antiMusic favorite Kelly Shaefer, but ultimately the band made the surprising choice of Scott Weiland. I was a little shocked because of Weiland's troubles and explosive personality, but maybe they felt his voice was strong enough to overcome those shortcomings.
Then the moment of truth arrived and we finally heard what this new supergroup sounded like and to be honest, I was under-whelmed. I wasn't expecting Guns N' Roses Pt II, but what I heard didn't make the sale and after a few spins, the CD was placed on the disappointment shelf to gather dust. I gave them another chance with their second CD and that was even more disappointing. The songs were strong, but the vocals just didn't have the power needed to make them shine. Velvet Revolver's music style calls for a lot more than the underpowered "Layne Staley lite" style of Stone Temple Pilots.
I understand that a lot of people loved what Velvet Revolver had to offer. They heard something that I must have missed, but I'm sure that most would agree that VR hasn't come anywhere close to matching what Guns N' Roses did musically. I personally lay a lot of blame for that on the vocals. So for this Top 5 list, I look at the reasons why Axl is better than Weiland.
5: Attitude - Axl may have an attitude at times, but it's mostly because he is a perfectionist and doesn't want to give less than 100%, which can cause problems with bandmates, whereas Weiland has an attitude because he's an a....
4: Power - When the song calls for it, Axl can take it PAST 11, whereas Weiland tends to top out around 6 1/2.
3: Appreciation - Axl is pretty reclusive, but when he does go out in public, fans can approach him and he'll talk with them, take photos etc, whereas Weiland has been reported to tell fans that want autographs or photos that he "doesn't do eBay". Damn, I might have paid 50 cents for that autograph.
2: Quality - 'Appetite' is a classic that is still selling well today, whereas 'Core' etc are largely forgotten now that the Alice in Chain clone trend is over.
And the number one reason why Axl is better than Weiland...
Originality -Axl has a very unique and dynamic voice that is unmistakable, whereas we're heard Weiland's voice from a dozen bands and it's about as original as a Fox reality show.
