Armed Forces Week: Day 2 "The Runaways" |
I had been working on this song for about two years by the time I finally put it to tape. It's a pretty straightforward number I wrote for my friend Annelise Dekker- a lovely young lady who let me sleep on the floor of her USC dorm room when I was homeless in Los Angeles a couple years ago. We would ride around all night looking for action and I found myself developing a distaste for all the industry-types in Hollywood, everybody thinking they were so much better than us.
It reached the breaking point when I watched her offer up her heart to this singer who really couldn't care less and used her for what he could. What started as a love song ended up as a statement of disgust with this society that didn't see what I did in this girl...thus the line "they don't want you but, I do."
5th Beatle Dies |
According to Transworldnews "Aspinall's involvement with the Beatles dated from 1960 when the group's original drummer, Pete Best, asked him to become their driver. After Best, Aspinall's best friend, was replaced by Ringo Starr, Aspinall stayed with the band.
AFP adds, "In 1968, he became manager of Apple Corps, reportedly on the condition that he would only do it until they found someone else. He only left the job last year."

Lyrics in question include "We'll wait with knives after class!" and "Eating pizza is really great / So is destroying everything you hate." There are also some songs about zombies which may be offensive to bloodthirsty corpses hungering for brains.

Shadows Fall Deny Split Rumor |
"Since returning home [from our crazy Australian-Asian tour], we have been made aware of some rumors involving ourselves and our record label. Let me make this very clear ... we have no intention of splitting with our label. Atlantic Records and Roadrunner worldwide have been amazing to us throughout the release of 'Threads Of Life' and we look forward to continuing our working relationship with both on our next release.
"It appears that some people out there don't know the difference between 'rumors' and actual 'news.' Somehow we were linked to a blind news item that mentioned neither us or our label and a few people decided to assume it was us. Well, we all know what happens when you ASSume"

Soldier's Letter Inspires Filter |
The album's first single "Soldiers of Misfortune" will be available digitally on April 15. Patrick describes the soaring anthem--with its U2/Bowie flavor and stacked backdrop of buzzing electric guitars--as a "sardonic anti-war/pro-troops song." The first-person narrative was inspired by a letter from a Filter fan who had enlisted in the Army reserves to get his college tuition paid; in his final year of college, he was shipped off to Iraq where he died from a rocket attack and small arms fire after just a few days of duty.
Most recently, former Filter bassist--now Army Sergeant--Frank Cavanagh traveled to Kuwait to join his former band on Filter's "Hey Man Nice Shot" for the Operation MySpace concert. Cavanagh--who is due to begin his tour of duty later this month--was authorized by the U.S. Army to join the band so that he could be a part of this memorable performance.
