Armed Forces Week: Day 2 "The Runaways"
antiMusic reports: This week we feature Armed Forces' frontman Brandon Jazz who tells us about his favorite tracks on the new album "Modern Gospel". We won't bore you with a long intro, instead we'll let Brandon speak for himself. Here he is with today's song "The Runaways":

I had been working on this song for about two years by the time I finally put it to tape. It's a pretty straightforward number I wrote for my friend Annelise Dekker- a lovely young lady who let me sleep on the floor of her USC dorm room when I was homeless in Los Angeles a couple years ago. We would ride around all night looking for action and I found myself developing a distaste for all the industry-types in Hollywood, everybody thinking they were so much better than us.

It reached the breaking point when I watched her offer up her heart to this singer who really couldn't care less and used her for what he could. What started as a love song ended up as a statement of disgust with this society that didn't see what I did in this girl...thus the line "they don't want you but, I do."
- Now go learn more about the group, check out some songs from the CD and see if you spot something rather interesting about the band.

5th Beatle Dies
antiMusic reports: The "Fifth Beatle," Neil Aspinall, died of cancer at the age of 66 on Sunday night in New York City. Aspinall was a longtime friend of the band and began working with them as a driver and eventually ascended to the head of their company Apple Corps Ltd until he resigned last year.

According to Transworldnews "Aspinall's involvement with the Beatles dated from 1960 when the group's original drummer, Pete Best, asked him to become their driver. After Best, Aspinall's best friend, was replaced by Ringo Starr, Aspinall stayed with the band.

AFP adds, "In 1968, he became manager of Apple Corps, reportedly on the condition that he would only do it until they found someone else. He only left the job last year." - Read the AFP report

Shadows Fall Deny Split Rumor
antiMusic reports: Shadows Fall frontman Brian Fair issued a statement refuting rumors online that hinted that the band would be parting ways with Atlantic Records. The rumor started after some linked them to a blind news item. Here is what Fair had to say according to Blabbermouth:

"Since returning home [from our crazy Australian-Asian tour], we have been made aware of some rumors involving ourselves and our record label. Let me make this very clear ... we have no intention of splitting with our label. Atlantic Records and Roadrunner worldwide have been amazing to us throughout the release of 'Threads Of Life' and we look forward to continuing our working relationship with both on our next release.

"It appears that some people out there don't know the difference between 'rumors' and actual 'news.' Somehow we were linked to a blind news item that mentioned neither us or our label and a few people decided to assume it was us. Well, we all know what happens when you ASSume" - Blabbermouth story

Soldier's Letter Inspires Filter
PR reports: After a five-year hiatus and a successful run with Army of Anyone, Richard Patrick has reclaimed his legacy with Filter for Anthems For The Damned, due out May 13 on Pulse Recordings. Produced by Josh Abraham (Slayer, 30 Seconds to Mars, Velvet Revolver, Staind, Courtney Love), Patrick calls Anthems For The Damned his "howl in the night," a harsh indictment of civilization that doesn't exclude himself from its vision of a world falling apart.

The album's first single "Soldiers of Misfortune" will be available digitally on April 15. Patrick describes the soaring anthem--with its U2/Bowie flavor and stacked backdrop of buzzing electric guitars--as a "sardonic anti-war/pro-troops song." The first-person narrative was inspired by a letter from a Filter fan who had enlisted in the Army reserves to get his college tuition paid; in his final year of college, he was shipped off to Iraq where he died from a rocket attack and small arms fire after just a few days of duty.

Most recently, former Filter bassist--now Army Sergeant--Frank Cavanagh traveled to Kuwait to join his former band on Filter's "Hey Man Nice Shot" for the Operation MySpace concert. Cavanagh--who is due to begin his tour of duty later this month--was authorized by the U.S. Army to join the band so that he could be a part of this memorable performance. - more on this and tour dates
