Armed Forces Week: Day 1 "Everything You Know Is Wrong" |
We didn't have a proper title for this song until sometime after the final mix; we just called it the "tacky pop song," and built a really feel-good tune around a simple chord progression. I've always been an avid fan of sunny, pleasant, pop songs that cover darker territory in a way you might not catch on the first listen...bands like The Smiths or The Velvet Underground. Only after you're already singing along do you realize that the song's about, say, stealing money from your parents to spend on drugs.
I wrote the lyrics about a typical day in the life of a middle class twenty-something college dropout: endless parties, one night stands, boredom, chain-smoking, and restlessness. I began throwing together bits of bar conversations and phone calls, and somehow I ended up with the most accurate portrait I could come up with of what it's like to be young and tired.
My friend Renee still doesn't believe that she's not the "home-schooled hooker" in the first verse.
Now go learn more about the group, check out some songs from the CD and see if you spot something rather interesting about

Britney Vocal Fraud? |
According to Jam!, Rollins told Sun Media that a studio engineer let him in on Britney's dirty little secret. "They have the black chick come in and sing, and Britney sings over it, and they mix them together," Rollins said.
"(Britney) gets her phrasing basically from this older R&B woman. I found that out talking to an engineer. Britney apparently isn't actually the worst singer, she just has no feel. So they bring in this older black woman who sings the song, then Britney sings to it, and they kind of make a mix of the two voices, and that's what you hear on the records."

Stone Temple Tantrum Spells End of Velvet Revolver? |
When Matt Sorum took to the web on Friday to discuss what went down, he said in part, "My career and life in rock 'n' roll has come with its ups and downs. Unfortunately, some people in this business don't realize how great of a life they have. Touring the world, meeting great people and fans all over the world. And just playing music for a living. I feel truly blessed. But sometimes the road can be draining for some. Being away from home and family does grind on you sometimes. With all the travelling and different beds. Personally, I love this sh*t and sometimes can't believe I am so lucky to still be doing what I do for a living. Everybody could see who was unhappy last night, but all I can say is let's keep the rock alive, people!!!! In this life, you just pick up and keep moving. And don't ever let anybody stand in your way."
Weiland took offense and sent Blabbermouth one of his venom filled tirades: "Well, first of all, the state of my family affairs is really none of his business, since he is too immature to have a real relationship, let alone children. So don't attempt to stand in a man's shoes when you haven't walked his path. Secondly, 'keeping rock 'n' roll alive?' I've made many attempts to remain cordial with the members of VR, but mainly, the likes of you. Funny though this is your FIRST band, as opposed to being a hired gun. I've been making records (now on my ninth), which have sold over 35 million copies worldwide and have maintained a level of professionalism regardless of how many drugs I've ingested into my system. I have only cancelled one tour during the entire course of my 16-year run and that was the 'make-up' Australia tour. Now, shall I open that can of worms, Matthew? Release the Kraken? Serve... Volley! You cancelled the Aussie tour in the fall because you went to rehab, but I won't say why we'll just let Blabbermouth find out for themselves." He goes on from there.
What about the future of Velvet Revolver post Weiland? One rumor suggests that Brett Hestla from Dark New Day may take over vocal duties. The other big rumor is that this may open the door to a Guns N' Roses reunion. The Hestla one seems far more probable. We'll have to wait and see.

Smashing Pumpkins Give Up on Dead Music Format |
Drummer Jimmy Chamberlin said, "I don't think we will make records again. I look at it like the old business model is dead and the music business doesn't know how to move forward. We want to keep things vital and keep things viable and get our music across while remaining relevant. Music has in many ways just become an advertisement for your tour."
Chamberlin said the PUMPKINS, who are out of their record contract, will probably start releasing songs, explaining, "It's just in our best interest to release blocks of songs. And I think what we'll do...is to create the framework where we can release a number of songs and maybe create a title. We can gather three or four songs, but it will all flow up to a larger body of work."

In a January press release, Fuego announced it had acquired 15 tracks of previously unreleased performances of the Beatles at the Star-Club in Hamburg, Germany, that were made just before the group signed its record deal with EMI's Parlophone in 1962, the suit claims.
