Armed Forces Week: Day 1 "Everything You Know Is Wrong"
antiMusic reports: This week we feature Armed Forces' frontman Brandon Jazz who tells us about his favorite tracks on the new album "Modern Gospel". We won't bore you with a long intro, instead we'll let Brandon speak for himself. Here he is with today's song "Everything you know is wrong":

We didn't have a proper title for this song until sometime after the final mix; we just called it the "tacky pop song," and built a really feel-good tune around a simple chord progression. I've always been an avid fan of sunny, pleasant, pop songs that cover darker territory in a way you might not catch on the first listen...bands like The Smiths or The Velvet Underground. Only after you're already singing along do you realize that the song's about, say, stealing money from your parents to spend on drugs.

I wrote the lyrics about a typical day in the life of a middle class twenty-something college dropout: endless parties, one night stands, boredom, chain-smoking, and restlessness. I began throwing together bits of bar conversations and phone calls, and somehow I ended up with the most accurate portrait I could come up with of what it's like to be young and tired.

My friend Renee still doesn't believe that she's not the "home-schooled hooker" in the first verse.

Now go learn more about the group, check out some songs from the CD and see if you spot something rather interesting about - the band.

Britney Vocal Fraud?
antiMusic reports: What follows is clearly hearsay, but won't come as much of a shock to most people. It appears Henry Rollins may have discovered the real reason why Britney Spears lipsyncs at her concert-- the voice on her albums is fully Britney. In equally shocking news we learn that water is wet.

According to Jam!, Rollins told Sun Media that a studio engineer let him in on Britney's dirty little secret. "They have the black chick come in and sing, and Britney sings over it, and they mix them together," Rollins said.

"(Britney) gets her phrasing basically from this older R&B woman. I found that out talking to an engineer. Britney apparently isn't actually the worst singer, she just has no feel. So they bring in this older black woman who sings the song, then Britney sings to it, and they kind of make a mix of the two voices, and that's what you hear on the records."

Stone Temple Tantrum Spells End of Velvet Revolver?
antiMusic reports: If, as Duff suggested in a recent interview, Velvet Revolver are really the frontrunners to support a reunited Led Zeppelin on tour, it looks like they will have to do it with a new vocalist. Weiland reportedly shocked fans from the stage at the band's show last Thursday when he told the crowd "You're watching something special... the last tour by Velvet Revolver." The proclamation promoted a response from drummer Matt Sorum, which in turn prompted one of Weiland's famous tantrums... oops "statements".

When Matt Sorum took to the web on Friday to discuss what went down, he said in part, "My career and life in rock 'n' roll has come with its ups and downs. Unfortunately, some people in this business don't realize how great of a life they have. Touring the world, meeting great people and fans all over the world. And just playing music for a living. I feel truly blessed. But sometimes the road can be draining for some. Being away from home and family does grind on you sometimes. With all the travelling and different beds. Personally, I love this sh*t and sometimes can't believe I am so lucky to still be doing what I do for a living. Everybody could see who was unhappy last night, but all I can say is let's keep the rock alive, people!!!! In this life, you just pick up and keep moving. And don't ever let anybody stand in your way."

Weiland took offense and sent Blabbermouth one of his venom filled tirades: "Well, first of all, the state of my family affairs is really none of his business, since he is too immature to have a real relationship, let alone children. So don't attempt to stand in a man's shoes when you haven't walked his path. Secondly, 'keeping rock 'n' roll alive?' I've made many attempts to remain cordial with the members of VR, but mainly, the likes of you. Funny though this is your FIRST band, as opposed to being a hired gun. I've been making records (now on my ninth), which have sold over 35 million copies worldwide and have maintained a level of professionalism regardless of how many drugs I've ingested into my system. I have only cancelled one tour during the entire course of my 16-year run and that was the 'make-up' Australia tour. Now, shall I open that can of worms, Matthew? Release the Kraken? Serve... Volley! You cancelled the Aussie tour in the fall because you went to rehab, but I won't say why we'll just let Blabbermouth find out for themselves." He goes on from there.

What about the future of Velvet Revolver post Weiland? One rumor suggests that Brett Hestla from Dark New Day may take over vocal duties. The other big rumor is that this may open the door to a Guns N' Roses reunion. The Hestla one seems far more probable. We'll have to wait and see. - For now read Sorum and Weiland's full comments at Blabbermouth and enjoy Scott's Jr High moment when he discusses STP!

Smashing Pumpkins Give Up on Dead Music Format
Blabbermouth reports: The Smashing Pumpkins will begin recording new material later this spring, according to Spinner.com, but the band doesn't expect to release a full-length follow-up to last year's comeback album, "Zeitgeist".

Drummer Jimmy Chamberlin said, "I don't think we will make records again. I look at it like the old business model is dead and the music business doesn't know how to move forward. We want to keep things vital and keep things viable and get our music across while remaining relevant. Music has in many ways just become an advertisement for your tour."

Chamberlin said the PUMPKINS, who are out of their record contract, will probably start releasing songs, explaining, "It's just in our best interest to release blocks of songs. And I think what we'll do...is to create the framework where we can release a number of songs and maybe create a title. We can gather three or four songs, but it will all flow up to a larger body of work." - more on this story

Apple Blocking Early Beatles Bootleg Release
Billboard reports: Apple Corps and Apple Records have just filed a federal lawsuit in Miami in an attempt to stop bootleg recordings from the Star-Club in Germany from being released to the public, Billboard has learned.

One of the defendants, Jeffrey Collins, tried to release the recordings several years ago before he was sentenced to probation for violating sound recording piracy law in connection with non-Beatles recordings, Apple claims.

In a January press release, Fuego announced it had acquired 15 tracks of previously unreleased performances of the Beatles at the Star-Club in Hamburg, Germany, that were made just before the group signed its record deal with EMI's Parlophone in 1962, the suit claims. - more on this story

Metal Legends Team Up for Tour?
antiMusic reports: Unlike the way over hyped rumored Hairfest that caused some controversy last week, another rumored tour featuring some of real metal's most legendary bands will truly make for a colossal announcement if the rumors pan out. Blabbermouth has the story: Heaven And Hell, Judas Priest and Motorhead are strongly rumored to be teaming up for a North American tour later in the year (as partially predicted by BLABBERMOUTH.NET on January 17, 2008). It should be noted, however, that this information has not yet been corroborated by an official source and should be considered a rumor only at this point.

HEAVEN AND HELL is currently writing material for a full-length studio album, tentatively due late 2008/early 2009 via an as-yet-undisclosed record label.

JUDAS PRIEST's upcoming tour will include shows where the group's entire upcoming "Nostradamus" album (based on the legendary 16th century prophet Nostradamus) will be performed as well as concerts featuring the band's classic songs. - more on this story
