Pop Goes The Chiodos |
CINEMATIC SUNRISE Craig Owens, vocals; Bradley Bell, keyboards; Bryan Beeler, guitar; Marcus Vankirk, bass; and Dave Shapiro, drums recorded the 6-track set themselves with Beeler in the role of producer/engineer. The debut EP (title TBA) is set for a May 13, 2008 release.
Although CHIODOS' schedule has been extremely hectic since the release of their sophomore record, Bell reassures us that they'll still be making time for touring as CINEMATIC SUNRISE. "Obviously we can't put as much time into it, but we still take it seriously." Shortly after the album's release, the band will start off on a headlining tour which runs May 15th through May 31st.

Wallpaper Go West |
Who is Wallpaper? Wallpaper is the enigmatic onstage existence of Oakland music addict Eric Frederic. In another life, he fronts a prog-rock powerhouse (indie stalwarts Facing New York), but in this one, he's a pop-pushing kingpin as interested in art as artifice. The Wallpaper project began in early 2005 as tweaked satire, Frederic funneling his earliest influences (P-Funk, New Jack, East Bay rap) into two EPs of diced, digital beats and lyrics caricaturing the pop vernacular. But as the Hyphy hip-hop movement crested in Frederic's backyard, something changed.
"I saw that classic Bay Area sound resurfacing," he says, "that same psychedelic, drippy, care-free, funky approach that reigned from Sly Stone to Digital Underground."
Statement From The Widow of Bonham's Daniel MacMaster |
"On top of his pneumonia that started to get very bad, he FREAKILY got a strep infection which entered into his blood stream. We all come in contact with this particular germ or virus daily, but it usually presents itself as strep throat and doesn't usually get into your blood stream and viciously attack your body.
"I don't know why this has happened. I don't know why Daniel kept getting cold after cold except to tell you he was a truck driver long hauling and he was a hard worker. When he came home he would work on his music when he was not hanging out with the kids.
"Daniel has a page on iLike and some of his newer songs are there if you would like to listen to them. I feel the world should listen to his beautiful voice. It is what he would have wanted."

DIY Working For BoDeans |
Released on March 4th, "Still" debuted in the Billboard Top 200, and came in at #30 on the Top Independent Albums chart. The record's first single, "Everyday," has also landed in the top 10 on the Americana charts, and is one of the top 3 most-added songs at Triple A radio. Though the BoDeans have seen this kind of success before, they have now reached these numbers independently by taking advantage of the industry's current state. Utilizing partnerships with key retailers like Best Buy and Target, as well as doing a six-week nationwide radio and retail promotion tour, has helped facilitate initial sales of "Still," and an upcoming headlining tour will further support the album.
To ensure the business side of He & He runs smoothly, the BoDeans have enlisted the services of several industry professionals, aiming to maximize "Still's" success. With indie firms like OarFin, Koch, Under The Radar, Songlines and Moxie Star handling various aspects of distribution, radio promotion, publicity and marketing, the labeland thus, the band itselfis able to retain control. After decades of having their career dictated by others, the BoDeans are finally in the driver's seat, and are proving that D.I.Y. isn't just for punks anymore.

Feral Children Are Coming |
Described by Seattle's "The Stranger" as "convulsive, percussive, skuzzed-out rock, as primal as a caveman fertility ritual," Feral Children remain true to their moniker over the album's 12 tracks. Self-released locally in 2007, the fivesome's full-length was produced by Scott Colburn (Animal Collective, Arcade Fire), who expertly captured the band's raw sonic outbursts.
Kicking off with the rollicking "Spy/Glass House," the album launches into a frenzy almost right off the bat as a spiky guitar riff collides with vocalist/percussionist Jeff Keenan's howling melodies. The song bursts at the seams with an eerie tension that pervades the entire record.
