Black Tide Week: Day 4
antiMusic reports: Don't let the youth of Black Tide fool you, these kids actually bring some credible old school metal to the plate with their major label debut, "Light From Above". The disc hits stores this week, so we thought it would be a good time to ask the band to pick their favorite tracks from the offering and tell us a bit about them. Here is Alex with today's song:

"Show Me the Way"- This song is pretty old, but its one of my favorites. When we play this live I usually get pretty pumped up and move around a lot during the whole song.

"Show Me the Way" has a really catchy chorus and a great groovy breakdown right in the middle of it which is my favorite part to play. There's one part in the middle of it where we stop playing and get the crowd involved and clapping along to the song.

Check out some tracks from the album, grab some tour dates, and learn more about the band - more on this story

F*ck Motley Crue
antiMusic reports: Yesterday we posted part of a Blabbermouth story dealing with a rumor of what Motley Crue's history changing announcement on April 15th might be. The rumor dealt with a rumored tour. Today we received the following message from their management/record company 10th Street Entertainment:

Recently, rumors regarding the April 15 announcement have leaked onto the internet. These rumors contain information that is blatantly false and completely unfounded. THIS FALSE CONTENT IS TO BE REMOVED FROM YOUR SITE IMMEDIATELY. Any false rumors which are not removed are subject to potential future litigation.

Our first thought is to ask if any First Amendment lawyers want to take a shot at this? The Blabbermouth story we quoted from clearly labeled this rumor as a rumor and later said they are based on unconfirmed reports. The real irony is they listed a bunch of artists at the end of the message saying the announcement will related to a few of them. So will the labels for the artists listed that have no part in this sue us for posting this "official" rumor? Or sue for defamation for having their good names associated with Motley Crue? Had they sent out a message simply saying that the rumors were not true and asked us to correct the story, we would have no problem with that. But when they start threatening litigation is where we have an issue. As a result of this we will no longer cover 10th Street artists including Blondie, Buckcherry, Debbie Harry, DJ Ashba, Drowning Pool, Everclear, Hanson, Jonny Lives!, Marion Raven, Meat Loaf, Motley Crue, Papa Roach, Royal Underground, Sixx: AM, or The Exies. (We may make an exception if one of their artists overdoses or catches on fire from smoking while applying their hairspray.) We hate to boycott any artists due to the actions of their label or management, but to be threatened with litigation for covering them and reporting rumors clearly labeled as rumors, it's just not worth it. Besides there are plenty of more current artists to cover. So for the record - we are thru with the Crue.

Pete Wentz Suicide Attempt
antiMusic reports: Fall Out Boy spokesmodel Pete Wentz recently spoke to mtvU and explained why he is far more emo than his contemporaries since he once attempted suicide. Ok, he didn't say anything about the emo-cred thing, but why bring suicide up? Here is Rockdirt with emoriffic story: [Wentz] tells mtvU he once was so "completely lost and out of control" he tried to commit suicide.

"I got in my car. I remember I was listening to Jeff Buckley doing Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" and sat there and took a bunch of [anxiety drug] Ativan in a Best Buy parking lot," the 28-year-old explained.

"And I called up my manager because I was, at that point, completely out of my head with Ativan. And I was talking to him and I was slurring my words, so he called my mom and my mom called me and she came and got me and we went to the hospital." - more on this story

Viva la Coldplay
antiMusic reports: Chris Martin likes unusual names. He did name a child after a fruit after all. Some think that he named the new Coldplay album after a suspected fruit as well, but that's simply not true. The band have announced the album title and--more importantly--the release date. The album will be called 'Viva la Vida' and will hit stores on June 17th.

Martin tells Rolling Stone that the album title was inspired by a painting by Mexican artist Frida Khalo. Viva la Vida translates to the rather redundant statement "long live life". However, when taken in the context of Khalo's battle with polio, a broken spine and chronic pain, the words do convey a stronger message and that connected with Martin. "She went through a lot of sh*t, of course, and then she started a big painting in her house that said 'Viva la Vida,'" says Martin. "I just loved the boldness of it."

"Viva la Vida" is not to be confused with "La Vida Loca", though Martin says some may make that mistake and it's ok with him, "Everyone thinks it comes from Ricky Martin, which is fine. I have absolute respect. I've been through this before, naming something or someone (his children are named Apple and Moses) and everyone saying that 'That's a terrible name.' But then saying, 'Well, f**k you, that's what it's called and I'll be proved to be right eventually'. - Read the Rolling Stone article for more

(Sorry North American nothing for us in this announcement) Here is part of the official press release:

With a new album in the pipeline -- the first new studio album to carry the Queen name since the Freddie Mercury sessions -- Queen is heading back on the road for a four-month tour, once again in the company of musician/singer/songwriter Paul Rodgers. Free Tunes With iPod Purchase Coming?
antiMusic reports: How would you like the price of music included with the purchase of your iPod? According to Billboard there are talks in the works to make that concept a reality. It's a rather lengthy report but here are some highlights: Apple and major record labels have reportedly stepped up negotiations concerning the idea of bringing the "Total Music" concept to iPod devices.

According to sources, Apple in the last month reached out to all four major labels to discuss the prospect in more detail, and negotiations now involve the various digital teams at both the labels and Apple.

The Total Music concept involves providing free access to music tied to a specific device in return for a cut of the device price-essentially bundling the cost of about a year's worth of music into the cost of the device at sale. - But there is more to it, read the full article here

Rick Ross Soars As Snoop and Now Fall While Randy Jackson Tanks
antiMusic reports: Rick Ross did it again. The Miami rapper debuted at the top of the charts with his new album "Trilla," after doing the same thing way back in 2006 with his album "Port of Miami." But the real chart news this week is that there are 13,000 people in the U.S. that actually bought the new Randy Jackson album, while the Now! franchise and Snoop saw their new albums with fewer first week sales then their past releases.

"Randy Jackson's Music Club: Vol. 1" will debut at No. 50 on the Billboard chart having managed to sell 13,000 copies last week. In contrast, William Hung's album enjoyed first week sales of 37,600 copies. Maybe Randy should have had Hung join his club as the first single featuring the half-software/half-voice vocal styling of his fellow Idol judge Paula Abdul didn't seem to help move too many units.

Rick Ross on the other hand didn't need the star power of William Hung to sell 198,000 units last week in the U.S. Which was a 12,000 unit jump from his 2006 chart topping effort. On the other side of the coin, Now! and Snoop saw their sales drop. NOW 27 snagged the No. 2 slot, but with their lowest sales since series debut in 1998. According to Billboard, from the series 2nd release on, each volume have enjoyed first week sales in excess of 200,000. This new edition only sold 169,000.

Snoop landed at No 3 with sales of 137,00 of his new effort "Ego Trippin'" Which is respectable, but it's also the lowest first week sales of his career (for new studio albums). Last week's No. 1, Alan Jackson's "Good Time," nosedived to No. 5 with 53,000 and Fat Joe's "The Elephant in the Room," came in No. 6 with sales of 46,000 copies.

Ride for Dime Scammed
antiMusic reports: Bad news for those that were happy with yesterday's news that Dio would headline the fourth annual Ride for Dime charity concert. It seems someone scammed the organizers of the event and even took a deposit. Blabbermouth has spoken with both the Dio camp and the Ride for Dime camp.

"[We] do not know where this information came from, but we can assure you it is completely untrue," a Dio management representative told BLABBERMOUTH.NET. "We have never been approached about this event, and Ronnie is working on the HEAVEN AND HELL record at this time."

"This comes as devastating news to Ride For Dime," Rob Eichelberger, Vice President of Ride For Dime, Inc., told BLABBERMOUTH.NET in a statement. "We put our faith in a person that represented himself as 'Doug Goldstein', management for RJD. I actually paid a deposit to the gentleman to secure the date and he went so far as to give me his federal tax ID and have a signed contract from him" - Blabbermouth has more of his statement as well as the signature

Cherry Poppin' Daddies Return
PR reports: Eugene, Oregon's horn-heavy, genre-bending eight-piece act Cherry Poppin' Daddies will be releasing their sixth full-length recording, "Susquehanna" (Space Age Bachelor Pad Records) nationally on June 10, 2008.

After selling two-million copies of Zoot Suit Riot: The Swingin' Hits of..." and dominating the swing and ska revivals in both the mainstream press and commercial radio, Cherry Poppin' Daddies eventually parted ways with Mojo Records/Universal Music after Universal sold Mojo Records to Jive/Zomba (home of Britney Spears, N'Sync, Backstreet Boys) and retreated into the regional iconoclasm of the Pacific Northwest.

During their hiatus band members spent time with families, finished college degrees, and imagined what might be their response, if any, to an increasingly orthodox, cynically targeted pop landscape. - more on this story

Reporter Defends Diddy Tupac Story
antiMusic reports: Los Angeles Times writer Chuck Philips made a big splash this week when he wrote an article that implicated people associated with Diddy in the 1994 attack on the late Tupac Shakur. Philips stands by his story and even implicated The Game's manager in the attack.

MTV ran a lengthy story on Tuesday, here is part of it: Philips took to the Web on Tuesday (March 18) for a live chat on LATimes.com to defend his work, particularly a story he wrote in 2002 regarding who killed Tupac Shakur.

Philips who has attracted attention recently with an article that alleged Diddy and the Notorious B.I.G. had prior knowledge of Shakur's 1994 attack at Quad Recording Studios said the Bad Boy camp provided insufficient evidence that Biggie (real name: Christopher Wallace) was in New Jersey at the time of Shakur's 1996 Las Vegas murder.

Philips also claimed Jimmy Rosemond, the Game's manager, knew of the plot to attack Shakur - Read the full MTV story
