Gary Reynolds and the Brides of Obscurity Week: Day 3
antiMusic reports: Described as psychedelic indie-rock / space pop that used "Abbey Road" as a reference when it came to mixing their new CD "Santiago's Vest," Gary Reynolds and the Brides of Obscurity caught our attention. So we asked Gary to pick some of his favorite tracks from the CD and tell us about them. Today Gary tells us about the song "Sleep":

This is the drummer's favorite song. He's responsible for the overall direction. I wanted it to be more of a calypso beat. Thank God I didn't get my way. I really love to lay in bed half asleep. It's really not being lazy I come up with a lot of ideas in that state of mind. So I decided to write a song about staying home, playing hooky from work. My favorite line in the song is "I feel like cinnamon toast" which is a pun on feeling like sh*t or being hungry.

Now it's up to you to be the ultimate judge, go grab a listen to their songs and see if you agree that this is an exciting new indie release. Samples, tour dates and more about the band can be - found here.

Idol Stripper
AP reports: "American Idol" contestant David Hernandez once entertained audiences by removing his clothes instead of singing tunes, a manager at a male strip club in Phoenix told The Associated Press.

The 24-year-old finalist from Glendale, Ariz., once worked as a stripper at Dick's Cabaret, appearing fully nude and performing lap dances for the club's "mostly male" clientele, club manager Gordy Bryan said Monday.

"He had the look and the type that people like, so he made pretty good money here," Bryan said. [so he should have kept his day job?] - more on this story

Judge Rejects Nickelback DUI Defense
antiMusic reports: "It's not like me to say sore-y, And I've been wrong, been to the bottom of every bottle, this is how you convict me." That may be the new tune Nickelback's frontman will be singing in jail along with the Police classic "Every Breath You Take". Jam! has the story: A B.C. provincial court judge has dealt a blow to Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger's defence, saying police legally obtained the accused drunk driver's breath samples.

His lawyer, Marvin Stern, argued an RCMP officer conducted an unlawful search when he asked Kroeger to blow into his face after detecting the smell of alcohol and that the evidence should be excluded.

Stern also argued the Mountie stayed far too long at the scene with Kroeger while arrangements were made to tow the Lamborghini and failed to obtain two further breath samples "as soon as practicable" as required by the Criminal Code. But provincial court Justice Peder Gulbrandsen disagreed, saying the obligation to obtain samples as soon as practicable does not mean they be obtained as soon as possible - more on this story

Boy Band Creator A Fraud
AP reports: Lou Pearlman is now not only guilty of foisting crap boy bands on the world, he is guilty of shady business deals. Which some could argue is the same principle at work. Reuters has the story: Lou Pearlman, the music mogul who launched the Backstreet Boys and 'N Sync, has agreed to plead guilty and make restitution to victims swindled out of an estimated $300 million in phony bank and investment schemes, U.S. prosecutors said on Tuesday.

Pearlman admitted in a plea agreement that for 20 years he enticed people and banks to invest millions of dollars in two companies that existed only on paper: Transcontinental Airlines Travel Services Inc. and Transcontinental Airlines Inc.

Pearlman is scheduled to enter his plea on Thursday in a U.S. court in Orlando. The charges carry a maximum of 25 years in prison and a $1 million fine. - more on this story

"It breaks my heart to say goodbye to this family that has given me the best two years of my life," Doan said. "I wish my time with Kittie did not have to end, but this decision was made based on doctors' orders. Unfortunately this is the only option that will allow for my full recovery."

Doan has been battling the disease for nearly two years. "Trish is a part of our family and her talents and friendship will be missed by all of us," said Tara McLeod and sisters Mercedes and Morgan Lander. "We are continuing to be respectful and supportive of Trish's needs during her period of healing. Donut Guy Has EMI Looking Backwards
Gigwise reports: EMI are to turn to their more established artists' back catalogues to boost struggling sales, according to new plans unveiled by the record label.

By re-releasing material from artists such as David Bowie in new formats EMI hope they will be able to reconnect with the record buying public. The plans were unveiled by the newly appointed head of EMI's music catalogue, Stephen Alexander.

Alexander, who has previously held the top position at Odeon Cinemas and Dunkin' Donuts, said he was not sure that EMI's catalogue "has been given the level of focus and priority that it would be my contention it really warrants as a business." [considering that catalogue sales account for about half of all CD sales, this just might be something to focus on. Too bad it took a guy that use to sell donuts to figure that out.]
