Bangkok Five Week: Day 5 "Outlines Of Us" |
Here is Frost with today's song "Outlines Of Us": Coatez and I kind of spearheaded this one the day after we'd all stayed in a flophouse back east. Tired and half asleep, we climbed the stairs of this ancient building and went to bed. Next day, we discovered
we'd all had the same dream; blood and brains all over the walls. We concluded there had been a murder/suicide there.
So I romanticized a classic, archetypical "if I can't have you, no one will" story about the anti-hero murdering his one and only true love, when he realizes she doesn't share his desire. The spurned lover then destroys everything, including himself, when he realizes she cannot be his. Sexy times :(
The album hits stores next week but you can grab a taste right now, plus get the latest on the band and more

Aerosmith Singer Out of Rehab |
The singer checked into a facility in Pasadena, California, last month, prompting speculation he had slipped from sobriety, 20 years after he kicked hard drugs.
And Liv says, "He had a foot problem, but he's fine. There's this funny thing my father says when I ask him how he is. He says, 'I'm F.I.N.E. F'd up, insecure, neurotic and emotional.' So he's F.I.N.E. fine!"

A Rose Connection To Velvet Revolver's New Singer? |
A tipster has very important innuendo regarding the new singer of Velvet Revolver, which will not be picked by reality-TV committee: "I have some new information coming from fans/family close to the hard rock Australian band Rose Tattoo to which Slash & Duff are HUGE fans of and shared the stage with many times, that Duff has been in communications with an Australian singer currently living in the USA.
"This guy can apparently sing up a storm and of course is a bloody Aussie, so that in itself along with the great voice will be a good choice for the band from all marketing angles."

Van Halen Reunion Pays Off |
Performing live with Roth for the first time in more than 23 years, Van Halen proved its timeless catalog of hits still packs the punch it did decades earlier. Each night, the band treated the capacity audiences to a dream set list of more than two hours of Van Halen gems plucked from their original era. Favorites including, "Jump", "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love", "Panama" and more, received a jolt of vivacity and spirit.
"We send our thanks to the countless new and lifetime fans that helped make this tour our most successful," said Van Halen in a joint statement. "We also send special gratitude to the tireless efforts of the Van Halen touring crew, Live Nation and the media, as well as opening acts Ky Mani Marley and Ryan Shaw," the band went on to say.
Now that the final bits of confetti have fallen, Van Halen has their sights set on bright horizons with exciting developments on the way.

Concert Slump or are Fans Avoiding Ticket Surcharges? |
The insider notes that tickets for Stone Temple Pilots and Sheryl Crow shows (both to take place at Concerts on the Green, near Qualcomm Stadium) are selling below expectations. "You always hear about the high cost of tickets with extra Ticketmaster charges and everything and that eventually the promoters will respond and bring tickets back down to earth. I think the promoters will get burned so badly this year that this will finally be the year they wake up and start bringing prices down for next year."
One promoter agrees that the local concert industry is in a slump. "I would say that overall sales are down by as much as 20 percent," says the promoter, who agrees that local promoters will take a drubbing this summer. But he doesn't agree that tickets will come down next year. "What you are seeing is that people are waiting until the day of the show to buy tickets. I would say that advance ticket sales are down 30 percent, but day-of-show sales are actually up. By waiting to buy tickets on the day of show, people are avoiding Ticketmaster altogether."

Looks like Disney Records may be getting some competition: "American Idol" runner-up David Archuleta has signed a record deal and is expected to release an album later this year, his new producers at 19 Recordings/Jive Records said on Thursday. Now this leaves us to ponder this. Does it matter who wins this thing as the Idol corp and RCA seems to get a lock on all of the finalist and seem to sign most of them and screw up most the chances for most of them to have a real career. Not that this kid had much luck of being anything more than a novelty, but still. more on the story of his deal with the devil.

Note: If your tour is sponsored by a cosmetics company, please don't bother us about providing coverage. It's not going to happen. And if your tour is sponsored by any other company, we may cover it, but we have a policy of removing the corporate names from the stories. We won't be accomplices to you whoring your band unless these corporations start ponying up tickets for the fans. Sorry.
Quote of the week: This week we get the double honor of providing a funny quote from someone with a rather silly name! Avenged Sevenfold guitarist Zacky Vengeance explained why you won't see AX7 on Warped: "When Warped Tour lets us blow sh-- up, you'll probably find us there. They probably wouldn't want us 'cuz we would clean house on all the chicks and scare the emo kids." Sounds like someone has been watching too many Motley Crue videos.
Korn Headcase Releasing Solo Debut |
The CD's first single, "Flush", will be made available exclusively via iTunes on July 8. For more than a decade, Brian "Head" Welch was lead guitarist for the controversial rock band Korn, but in early 2005 he shocked the international music community when he abruptly quit the band and announced that he had been saved by Jesus Christ.
His announcement in front of 10,000 people in Bakersfield, California set off a media frenzy, as people from around the world sought to understand what led this rock star into the light.

Punk Murder Documentary Hitting Theaters |
For all you unfamiliar with the band of the same name, this is the story of the Seattle punk band led by lead singer Mia Zapata who was senselessly murdered with the band on the brink of breaking.
While this is indeed a tragic story, The Gits is a truly moving and loving documentary that is also uplifting and hopeful even after many years Zapata's death was thought to be unsolvable. This July, The Gits will receive national theatrical screenings in selected cities throughout the US and Canada along with a DVD release around the same time.
Nine Inch Nails Lineup Change |
Trent writes: I am proud to announce the final personnel lineup of nine inch nails for the foreseeable future. We've added, we've subtracted and we've wound up with unquestionably the strongest lineup I've EVER had. Joining me onstage will be Robin Finck, Alessandro Cortini, Josh Freese and Justin Meldal-Johnsen.
We've been working on something really special for these shows and so far I couldn't be happier with the results. We'll be revealing some live performances shortly here on nin.com
Meanwhile, I assume some of you may not be entirely familiar with the acts I've chosen to join us on various legs of this tour, so we've compiled a sampler EP for you. Ozzy's Big Payday |
In the article titled "Ozzy's Freak Show," the tabloid also claimed the 59-year-old rocker was in such a poor state that he had to be transported around the show on an electric buggy and that event organizers held last-minute discussions to determine whether he should be allowed to carry on his emcee duties.
"The claimant is a highly successful touring artist who has just completed a sell-out world tour," John Kelly, Osbourne's attorney, told the London High Court today. "The publication of false allegations that the claimant was in such a poor state of health that he was incapable of hosting an awards ceremony...are extremely serious."
