Bumblefoot Week: Day 4 "The Day After" and "Dash"
antiMusic reports: With a sound described as "The Sex Pistols meets Queen, with innovative guitar and a Zappa-esque twist" how could your interest not be sparked? We are talking about Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal who was thrust into the international spotlight a couple years ago when he joined Guns N' Roses and quickly won the fans over on their world tour. But that new gig hasn't changed Bubblefoot's DIY ethic as he continues to be a champion of the underground with his new self-released CD "Abnormal". That effort from the critically acclaimed rocker is available this week and we asked Bumblefoot to pick his favorite tracks from the album and tell us a bit about each one. He more than delivered! Because of the Fourth of July holiday, we wrap up the special today with two song stories. But for the record, this has been one of the most popular artist week specials ever. Bumblefoot proved even more popular than platinum rockers Switchfoot and Rivers Cuomo. Three cheers for DIY! Now here is Bumblefoot with today's songs:

"The Day After" This is an instrumental song that comes after Redeye. A song that feels like the day after, the earthquake day. The clock doesn't seem to measure time the way you're feeling it. For the song, I recorded the drums at a faster running speed so that when the song is played back at the correct speed, they'd sound slowed down, to enhance the feeling like everything is happening in slow motion. A "Strawberry Fields" kinda thing, or the very end of the first KISS album, the "Black Diamond" fade-out. That ---- scared me as a kid. Laid all the guitar solos in one pass, no second takes, just let it sing from within. Thought about those that didn't survive, those that need to re-build, not knowing to what extent it would be or for how many. Hopefully those periods in life where you're tallying the dead are few and far between. - Check out story for the final song "Dash" and find out where you can get a preview of the CD!

Whitesnake Member Dies
Sleazeroxx reports: Mel Galley, guitarist of Trapeze and Whitesnake, has lost his battle with cancer of the oesophagus.

The Midlands-born musician was a member of Finders Seekers with bassist Glenn Hughes, and together they co-founded Trapeze in 1969. He had just turned 60 years old

"Mel was my hero growing up as a kid in Cannock," Hughes tells Classic Rock. "He was four years older than me and along with Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton was one of my guitar gods. He taught me music, and more importantly, how to live. After Cream, Trapeze were the greatest English rock trio." - more on this story

Rob Thomas Sued for Sticking It To A Fan
antiMusic reports: The old saying was "stick it to the man" but if you're a middle of the road "rocker" making music for middle-aged housewives, maybe you would mishear the saying as "stick it to the fan". But if you do that, it may cost ya.

Idolator has the story: Rob Thomas is being sued by a woman who was hit in the face with a drum stick by the rock donkey at one of his solo shows in 2005 and suffered a cervical herniated disc from the trauma.

The woman's husband, a neurosurgeon who has had some financial problems of his own recently (dude owed back taxes), is suing Thomas as well for "loss of consortium." - more on this story

Flaming Lips Film Done At Last
Filter reports: After more than seven years in the making, the Flaming Lips film, Christmas On Mars, has finally been completed.

The flick stars bandmates Michael Ivans and frontman Wayne Coyne as alien super-heroes, and will no doubt feature the same sort of quirky, eccentric concepts the Oklahoma quartet houses in their music.

Coyne and co. are currently screening the film at several local and international music festivals, including the recent Sasquatch Fest, with hopes for a public release in time for the holiday season. [maybe there is hope for Chinese Democracy after all!] - more on this story
