The Smiths Reader 1983-1987

PR reports: The Smiths Reader 1983-1987 won't be available from traditional book stores and online retailers until late February, but fans who want to order in advance from Rock Reader Books can do so here and have their copy in just 5 to 8 days.

In 2002, the NME declared The Smiths "the greatest artist of all time". In just five short years, the Manchester foursome conquered the world, forever changing the scope of modern music. Along the way, the fame seemed to alter frontman Morrissey's opinion of print journalism.

Going from an absolute frenzy of press interviews in 1983 and 1984, the legendary bard cooled to the media in 1985 and ultimately withdrew from the hype machine, save for a few essential pieces in 1986 and 1987. - more on this story

Secret Machines' Brandon Curtis and Tamaryn Release Free Christmas Download For Charity

PR reports: This holiday season, the ghosts of alt-rock Christmas bring a special re-release from Secret Machines' front man Brandon Curtis, featuring vocalist Tamaryn, whose solemn adaptation of the relentlessly familiar 1818 German Christmas classic "Silent Night" evokes the darker side of human nature in its quest to rekindle compassion for mankind. The digital-only offering will be available from the Secret Machines' website as a free download, with the option to make a donation to the childrens' charity, Safe Horizon, which will receive 100% of the proceeds.

"We originally released it in 2006 as a little Christmas gift of our own, on MySpace. Tamaryn and I were both performing in New York at the time, and we were looking for an opportunity to work together on some music. It was December and we were confined by the cold, confined by the holidays, and confined by our own disillusionment. It started with this story which Tamaryn had written," explains Curtis. A pastor looks down from a hill and meditates on a peaceful blanket of snow. From beyond the heavens he hears the sound of angels singing; a leader is born in silence, no fireworks or roaring crowds a child of sovereign blood first hears. Everything quiet, calm and otherworldly, the angels continue to sing, their romantic illuminations so powerful that one trembles upon seeing them and recognizes the dawn of grace.

The story behind the song's inspiration gives way to the importance of giving back to those in need during these trying times. The song is being offered free of charge, or with the option to make a goodwill donation to Safe Horizon, a New York-based charity that assists victims of abuse, neglect, and domestic violence. "Silent Night is the song of an angelic yearning for the perfection of pure love. To sing it is to join in the universal hope that it exists," continues Tamaryn. Don't Forget Your Mom's Favorite Lyrics

PR reports: Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock, of the hit-making group Air Supply are known by their fans all over the world for their Love Songs / Power Rock Ballads -- and TV executives know this as well.

The duo were invited to be part of a taping of Fox TV's "Don't Forget The Lyrics", hosted by Wayne Brady.

In the episode, airing on the FOX Television Network this Friday December 19th, Russell and Hitchcock surprise a pair of contestants as well as Air Supply fans, who were also on a blind date, with a live version of their hit song "Lost In Love." Nico Vega Hitting the Road

PR reports: Nico Vega announce they'll be hitting the road starting January 13 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The Los Angeles-based trio will be on tour in support of its eponymous debut album which MySpace Records will release on February 3.

The band will be playing dates with the Semi Precious Weapons and Von Iva through February 10 in Detroit and then plan to tour further with the Von Bondies (confirmed dates are not available for these at this moment).

Nico Vega has garnered comparisons to everyone from PJ Harvey, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Led Zeppelin, and the band's first full length will only build upon and add more to those eclectic comparisons. - more on this story
