Velvet Revolver Recruit Irish Singer? |
Conalane was apparently recommended to Velvet Revolver by ex-Guns N' Roses drummer Steven Adler, and also by Stone Gods, the band formed from the ashes of The Darkness.
Classic Rock's source, who claims to be in contact with an insider at Velvet Revolver's management, tells us: "Though a surprising choice, Phil is experienced but relatively unknown on the international stage, which would fit Velvet Revolver's bill of fresh blood as they try to rebuild their career following the disappointing sales of their last album, Libertad, and the GN'R return that has left them reeling.

Jackdawg CCR and Doobie Brothers Supergroup To Release CD |
After a great stint together in country-rock chart-toppers Southern Pacific, McFee, Cook and Knudson decided to carry on creating great music together and recorded the tracks at McFee's Lizard Rock Studio in Solvang, CA. The songs and the band evolved from 50 years of experience in the music business and the belief that together they could come up with some great songs to showcase their musical roots.
Although the Jackdawg album was recorded in 1990, the songs remained in the vault for many years. After Keith Knudsen's passing in 2005, John McFee and SonicPast Music's label founder/owner and former Blues Magoos member Joey Stec started discussing releasing the tracks, as the label's specialization is unreleased recordings by musicians who have been in successful bands.

Singled Out: Colin Armstrong |
"Hey Yoko" started out as a melodic finger picked instrumental one day out on the back patio of the studio. Sitting there with our laptops open to garageband, Mikal Reid and I played it out and what we ended up with had this Beatlesque McCartney quality to it. So we labeled it "Scrambled eggs instrumental" and moved on to something else.
Several weeks later, I happen to be watching a John Lennon documentary that really got into his life as an activist and war protester. I couldn't help but see the parallels between his anti-war stance on Vietnam and the stances that some musicians were beginning to take on the present war in Iraq. The melody for the verse basically was taken from the melody of the original guitar line and the chorus came from one of my daily trips up the 405 freeway in traffic to the studio. In bumper to bumper traffic I found myself behind one of those people who has managed to collect every cheesy bumper sticker that has ever been made and that's when I came up with the idea of "Hey Yoko where's our John?"
