ism Week: Day 4 |
Ash and Rose: While somewhere on the road, I picked up a book called The US Guide to Surviving Terrorism. This was in the first couple years after 9/11. It was a serious, government-issued book on how we should deal with the threats that we might encounter going about our lives. My favorite section was about what to do if terrorists boarded the plane you were on. It said, if terrorists board the plane, do not try to deter them, lie down on the floor and wait for further instructions. A page or two later it said, if US Marshalls enter the plane to attempt to apprehend the terrorists, do not try to help them. Lie down on the floor and wait for further instructions. So basically, no matter who is doing something, we're just sheep whose job is to mutely lie there while other people tell us what to do. Sounds fun.
Now, I'm not exactly sure why, but for some reason this whole thing made me think of the children's song Ring Around the Rosie. You know, ashes ashes we all fall down? As you may or may not know, that song is about the bubonic plague- ashes ashes, we all are going to die, so let's sing and dance in the meantime. These two ideas fused together into this song.

Kid Rock on the Fence About Britney Collaboration |
"No! What?! Right. I can give you a definite no on that. In one word: No. In two words, hell, no!," Rock said on Ryan Seacrest's Los Angeles based radio show Wednesday.
Obviously our headline was a joke but maybe Rock doth protest too much? Maybe he and Tommy Lee can line-up a boxing match at the after party? That would be far more entertaining than anything at the VMAs (unless the rumor of a Guns N' Roses appearance to hype their new song in the Rock Band game pans out.)

MySpace Bans Band Photos |
Under MySpace rules and regulations, "images of violence are prohibited" on the popular social networking site. This led to the photos being taken down "within a half hour" according to Oceano guitarist Andrew Mikhail. "They even took them off our personal profiles. Guess they were too raunchy after all."
The pictures in question from a recent Oceano photo shoot hit every measure of violence imaginable, both simulated and real."On a scale of 1 to 10, we'd say it was about a 6 on the blood scale." says Mikhail. "We knew how bloody it was already, but we told the photographer we wanted more. You could never have enough blood." The models used in the photographs even contributed to the raw physicality captured in the graphic photos. "These girls were hardcore" says the imposing Oceano guitarist. "One of the models kept telling us stuff like "pull my hair" and "choke me like you wanna ---- me!" It really made things easier for all of us to get in the spirit of things...other than the studio smelling of rotten meat."

Morrissey Live At The Hollywood Bowl DVD |
This forthcoming DVD captures Morrissey 'Live at the Hollywood Bowl' 15 years after his last gig at the legendary venue. A 17,000 plus audience is captivated with a career defining performance that includes The Smiths' classic tracks 'The Queen Is Dead', 'The Boy With The Thorn In His Side', 'Girlfriend In A Coma', 'How Soon Is Now?', Please, Please, Please Let me Get What I Want' and 'There Is A Light That Never Goes Out'.
Morrissey's darkly raw and witty lyrics are teamed with a flamboyant stage persona as we see at least 2 shirt strips and a constant flow of impassioned stage invaders. He delivers an unforgettable set spanning three decades of new and classic material on a night where his voice and performance is at it it's very peak.

Duff McKagan's Loaded Deal |
The quartet has signed a worldwide deal with Century Media Records and a five song EP, Wasted Heart, will be issued in September in conjunction with their upcoming European headlining tour. This run also marks the band's first trip to the UK. The new offering was recorded by Martin Feveyear and the full-length album is set for an early 2009 release.
McKagan, having carved out a place in rock 'n roll history selling millions of albums with the legendary Guns N' Roses, requires no lengthy introduction. However, with Loaded he gets a chance to further show his songwriting prowess and versatility assuming the role of vocalist/guitarist. This is an all out assault of pure rock and punk infused fury that pulls no punches.

So, finally it's time. On Monday, August 18, Chaq Mol and I will enter the studio together with producer rjan rnkloo (Misery Loves Co.) to begin the songwriting process of a new, yet untitled full-length album.
Exactly how long it will take is hard to say, but we hope to be done with pre-production within the next 3-4 weeks. We already have quite some material written so I feel that we are as pre-prepared as we can be at this stage.
We will only work in the studio during the weekdays. So every weekend when we're home we'll post a studio report to keep you updated. If you don't already subscribe to our newsletter make sure to sign up now
Yuppie Pricks Show Their Balls |
Best described as a "reverse-psychology" punk band, the Yuppie Pricks has much in common with the Buzzcocks and the Sex Pistols. Their backgrounds, bank accounts and fashion sense however, do not. Like Middleton and Hollingsworth, guitarist Preston Hetherington III is a multimillionaire stockbroker who lists among his hobbies "hunting endangered species." The group's third album, Balls, out now on Chicken Ranch Records further ups the ante of PC-baiting on both sides of the fence, especially in this heated election year.
As one might expect, the songs the Yuppie Pricks write range far from the usual anarchic, spleen-venting rants of the old-school punks. Instead, they remake the Sex Pistols' "Anarchy In The UK" as "Prosperity In The USA," complete with lines like "I am the next Bill Gates / I buy and sell real estate." As for the group's live performances, from McEnroe-esque gleaming tennis whites, to naked sushi-girls, to silver champagne buckets, the Yuppie Pricks surround themselves with the kind of on-stage accoutrements that reflect the highly-evolved sense of style and class that permeates everything they do. And, in so doing, the Yuppie Pricks bestow upon the common people a brief reprieve from their mundane, middle-class existence -- providing a tantalizing taste of the high-life they could never begin to afford.

Hank Williams III Sets New Release |
According to a press release, the CD is "filled with a self-described 'Jekyll and Hyde' mix of disturbingly dark stuff and 'good ol' country.'"
The first single is the mutated truckers' tune "Long Hauls & Close Calls", for which a video has been shot. III thinks of it as the album's "crossover" track, explaining that "It's got a little bit of the scream for the kids in black and a little bit of the banjo and dobro for the country folks."

Ludo Warped Tour Diary: 8/5/08 Credit Union Centre (Saskatoon, SK) |
After a day off in blustery Winnipeg, Manitoba (twas a holiday called Civic Day and the streets were bare), we were all geared up to take Saskatoon, Saskatchewan by storm. There were very few people at Warped Tour that day (probably by extension of the fact that there are very few people in Saskatoon), but the ones who were there kicked it hard. Ludo volunteered at lunch time at catering by helping serve foods from 11:30-2:00. I served Saskatoon Salad, Matt did Canadian Shrimp, Randall served Manitoban vegan chicken, Ferrell served something (beef? no...), Marshall served something (justice? no...), and Convy served Prince Edward Island smoothies. Yay. Ate with The Randies, convinced Oreskaband to play horns on Epic with us onstage, and then headed back out into the Saskatchewanian day.
We played to a scantish chunk of humanage (80 people??), but it was a good time the whole way through. As we were breaking down the merch tent at the end of the day, some drunk kid in a Canadian band pissed on our merch tent. He then insisted for 20 minutes that we were wrong and he didn't. It was very douchetastic. Whatever. I will never be friends with that guy. He cannot come to my birthday party. Packed up, loaded out, and shortly thereafter found ourselves en route to Calgary! Home of Byron!
Find out where you can see them, preview tracks from their new CD and learn more about Ludo here.
