Jessica Vale Week: Black and Blue & No Soul |
No Soul is a very cool track. We recorded my band playing the song as a 70's funk trio first. Took that recording and then played over it with loud metal guitars, synth bass, and drums. It sounds like you're listening to a rock industrial band, with a funk track coming from another room. It sounds amazing in clubs.

Madison Square Garden RIP |
The $14 billion (GBP7 billion) plan was unveiled by the Empire State Development Corporation on Wednesday (24Oct07), and, if approved, Madison Square Garden will be knocked down and then rebuilt two blocks away.
The arena will need to be demolished so that plans to revamp Penn Station and convert the nearby General Post Office building into another train station can be achieved. [Wikipedia reports also that "As of September 2007, the Garden's current owner, Cablevision, has plans to build a fifth Garden. If the project moves forward, a new Garden would be built at the western end of the James Farley Post Office/ Farley Annex, on 33rd Street and Ninth Avenue across the street, which is also eyed for a western expansion of Pennsylvania Station."]

Police Against Against Me! |
Apparently, the line "I was burning that f*cker And stringing my black flag high" was enough to bring in police. According to Missouri State's Expressive Activity Policy, the Bear Paw is an area on campus that has been designated a free speech zone for all people regardless of their connection to the university to express themselves.
However, expression that is obscene, defamatory or incites violence is not entitled to First Amendment protection and not permitted by the policy. [We won't go into the PC exceptions to these exceptions either but Punknews has a thought about it.

Metallica Eye Feb Release |
'Fans may be stunned by the decision to waive longtime producer Bob Rock for Rubin. "But for our own sanity, our own creative survival, we needed to work with a different set of circumstances and dynamics," Ulrich says. "So we've been stripped of our defense mechanisms, and it's been very invigorating to be challenged again. Rick's taken everything we've known about making records and completely turned it upside down."
'Are the songs punchier, four or five minutes long? "Well, the most of the intros are four to five minutes," he says. "I don't know Metallica and short songs just don't go that well together. But whereas 'St. Anger' was an exercise in over-pummelling the listener, these new songs echo some of our stuff from the '80s- long, epic journeys through different musical landscapes, heavier, but a lot more melodic."
'The next album, set for release next February, its almost finished; the band will be polishing up vocal mixes until December.' [The article covers a lot of other ground including some working names for tracks, Lars the dad and more.

Saul Williams Offers Trent Reznor Produced Album For Free |
Musicane, a tool that enables artists to sell their music, will handle fulfillment, processing, bandwidth and customer service. Those who pay will have the opportunity to choose between three download formats: 192kbit/s MP3, 320kbit/s MP3 and Free Lossless Audio Codec (FLAC), a format that doesn't remove any information from the audio stream--full CD quality. A full description of each file format with pros and cons will be available on the site. Those that don't contribute will automatically get the192kbit/s MP3. All versions are 100% DRM free and will include a PDF with artwork and lyrics. Williams' fans will also be able to embed Musicane's viral player on their own blogs or profiles, which will broadcast live-updated video messages from NiggyTardust and also contain the option to download or buy the album.
"The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of NiggyTardust! is the lovechild of Trent and me," says Williams. "The Niggytardust concept sets me free to do more on stage with costume, etc. than one might expect from a regular Saul Williams show. It allows me to put my theatre training to use. I've also thought long and hard about all the discussion surrounding racial epithets etc. and chose this title as a means of furthering the dialogue while also showing how creativity will outlive and outshine hatred of any kind."
