Billy Joe Royal Daydreams
PR reports: Four decades into an impressively resilient career, Billy Joe Royal's soul-drenched voice is as pliable as ever. That's demonstrated on his album Going By Daydreams which is now available at CD Baby - the second largest online music retailer - and at the highly popular digital download site Apple iTunes.

Royal girds each of the 10 songs on Going By Daydreams with a relaxed confidence. The assurance was always there in his vocalseven at the start, when he established himself with "Down In The Boondocks," "I Knew You When" and "Cherry Hill Park." But that first period of heady fame wasn't as easy as it appeared every day was fraught with fear that his good fortune would come to an abrupt halt. Fear is no longer part of the vocation. Royal is a steady presence on the tour circuit, a trusted veteran of several formats, and he's still got it as a vocalist.

Going By Daydreams, the new album that extends his reputation as a communicative vocalist of well-chosen songs. Royal looks back at the four-decade road that brought him to this point and says he's "lucky." But part of the reason for his luck is that he faced down the original fears that his career would have a short run. He remained loyal to his talents and to his motivations, and now faces every day with a quiet confidence that he's in the right place.

"I say this with all humility," he reflects. "The old voice has stood up, you know. I think if I'd ever stopped for four or five years or didn't sing all the time, it might've gone away. It's like working out with weights. The other thing is this is all I've ever done. I had to stick to it, 'cause I've never done anything else."

Bach Gets Inked
PR reports: Sebastian Bach will guest on the next episode of L.A. Ink this coming Tuesday, October 23 (TLC, 10PM ET) when Kat Von D herself leavers her mark on the rocker's forearm. Bach visited Von D's Los Angeles High Voltage Tattoo Parlor to have the cover art from his upcoming new album, "Angel Down," inked.

The CD's cover art is an original painting entitled "David Watching" that was painted by Bach's late father in 1990. Bach's father, David Bierk, also created the cover artwork for Skid Row's 1991 album "Slave To The Grind," which Rolling Stone voted one of the top 5 album covers of the year. His paintings have been exhibited in art galleries all over North America.

"Angel Down" is Bach's first solo album in eight years and is set for a November 20 release. The album was produced by Roy Z (Bruce Dickinson, Rob Halford, Judas Priest), and features a special guest vocals appearance by Guns N Roses' Axl Rose on three tracks.

Reefer Man Taj
PR reports: Ropeadope has set its sights on one of the world's most famous neighborhoods with the latest release in their "city experiment" series. The Harlem House Band, Grammy Award-winning producer Aaron Levinson and special guests offer up a stunning audio montage of music that has shaped the world. 'The Harlem Experiment" CD and Vinyl Due Out October 30th

One of the album's many standout tracks is "Reefer Man," a sly ode to a local toker featuring the Harlem-born, two-time Grammy-winning blues man Taj Mahal. "Reefer Man" was originally recorded in 1932 by big band leader Cab Calloway, famous for "Minnie The Moocher" and his stints at the legendary Harlem venue the Cotton Club. His band, which included Dizzy Gillespie, Ben Webster and Milt Hinton, eventually shared house band duties with the big band led by Duke Ellington.

"Reefer Man" is a fun, jazzy ditty (see lyrics below) featuring the gravelly vocals of Taj Mahal, the Latin swagger of the Harlem House Band and Don Byron on clarinet. Byron is a New York jazz staple who has recorded with the Grammy-winning Klezmatics, Vernon Reid and Suzanne Vega and was named "Artist of the Year" by Down Beat magazine in 1992.

Watch a great video of Cab and his "Harlemaniacs" performing their version of the tune- here

....Review: Darkest Hour - Deliver Us
With "Deliver Us", we find what is becoming all too common in metal- a leaning towards predictable breakdowns and riffs, standard and seemingly constant double bass, and growling vocals that sound like the vocalist is trying a bit too hard to be metal. (2 stars) - Read the full Darkest Hour - Deliver Us review

....Review: The Hotdamns! - Vanquished
This is a solid effort and it does what an EP is meant to do. It gives a taste of the band and leaves you wanting more. Vanquished is a collection of five honest, rootsy Americana tunes, and I am looking forward to a full-length release. (4 stars) - Read the full The Hotdamns! - Vanquished review

....Review: SSS - Short Sharp Shock
A time capsule must have opened up somewhere, because it seems I went to the 80s and found this thrash-laden release amongst all those D.R.I records! Sharp Shock are a group that revives the velocity of mixing vintage hardcore with ass-kicking thrash- Read the full SSS - Short Sharp Shock review
