NIN Vs Label For Ripping Off Fans, Announces Remix Collection
PR reports: Nine Inch Nails mastermind Trent Reznor is a bit miffed at his record company. He posted the following blog this weekend. Posted on [05_13_2007] As the climate grows more and more desperate for record labels, their answer to their mostly self-inflicted wounds seems to be to screw the consumer over even more. A couple of examples that quickly come to mind: * The ABSURD retail pricing of Year Zero in Australia. Shame on you, UMG. Year Zero is selling for $34.99 Australian dollars ($29.10 US). No wonder people steal music. Avril Lavigne's record in the same store was $21.99 ($18.21 US). By the way, when I asked a label rep about this his response was: "It's because we know you have a real core audience that will pay whatever it costs when you put something out - you know, true fans. It's the pop stuff we have to discount to get people to buy." So... I guess as a reward for being a "true fan" you get ripped off.

* The dreaded EURO Maxi-single. Nothing but a consumer rip-off that I've been talked into my whole career. No more.

The point is, I am trying my best to make sure the music and items NIN puts in the marketplace have value, substance and are worth you considering purchasing. I am not allowing Capital G to be repackaged into several configurations that result in you getting ripped off. We are planning a full-length remix collection of substance that will be announced soon.- Click Here for the Full Story

Geldof Slams Live Earth
AP reports: Bob Geldof, who organized the Live Aid and Live 8 benefit concerts, criticized the Live Earth music events Al Gore is putting together this summer, saying they lack a specific goal, according to a Dutch newspaper report Saturday.

"I hope they're a success," De Volkskrant newspaper quoted Geldof as saying in an interview.

"But why is (Gore) actually organizing them? To make us aware of the greenhouse effect? Everybody's known about that problem for years. We are all (expletive) conscious of global warming," he said. [see full story for more. He makes a pretty good point but what did Live 8 really do to help poor countries? Did MTV donate the revenue from all of their commercials? You remember the ads that were far more important than airing a Pink Floyd reunion. "Awareness" concerts are really pointless all together unless the goal is make people aware that Bob and Al are still alive. ]- Click Here for the Full Story

Unearth Lose Member
Lambgoat reports: Unearth has officially parted ways with drummer Mike Justian. The group has issued the following statement:

"Last night marked the end of the line for Mike Justian with Unearth. There are many reasons why we decided it was time to move on without him, but we are not in the business of airing dirty laundry. We will say that we grew apart as individuals and as musicians and the split will be best for both the band and Mike.

In true Unearth fashion, we will continue on without skipping a beat. We are pleased and honored to say that Gene Hoglan of Strapping Young Lad is filling in for the rest of our tour with Dimmu Borgir, Devil Driver and Kataklysm.[see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Panic Channel Carry On After Leaving Capitol
Blabbermouth reports: THE PANIC CHANNEL/ex-JANE'S ADDICTION guitarist Dave Navarro has issued the following update: "Siggy [Sjursen, bass], Perk [Stephen Perkins, drums] and I have decided to get together in a couple of weeks and start writing some musical ideas together while Steve [Isaacs; THE PANIC CHANNEL frontman] is in New York City. At a later date, Steve is going to come out here for an extended leave from the East with his ideas and contribute to what we have done, with the sole purpose of cranking out another PANIC CHANNEL record. We couldn't be more excited about this because we are now out of Capitol and don't foresee any potential hold ups from the corporate world. Our plan is to write, record, mix and make the music available online. Total DIY style.

"We have been complaining about the current state of the record business for so long and now we have an opportunity to do what we always wanted... End our personal slavery to a failing corporate industry that is on its last legs and gasping for air. It's not only Capitol... It's all of them. They all play follow the leader but they look to each other to lead. You can easily see how that would be a confusing game to play. [see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Exies Vs Paris (To Hype New CD?)
PR reports: With a little help from their fanbase, one rock band is fighting the good fight: to keep DUI driving disaster Paris Hilton behind bars. Frontman Scott Stevens of The Exies is fired up about Paris' plea for leniency on her 45-day jail sentence and demands real justice be handed down. Says Stevens: "She [Paris] did something anyone would be punished for. She's no different than anyone else, and she needs a reality check and needs to take the hit like everybody else would."

So, to keep the heiress behind bars, Stevens' band is starting a petition on their MySpace page encouraging the masses to sign to help keep Paris in jail. Stevens hopes the petition works but says he has a plan in the event that Paris doesn't end up serving her jail time. He says, "We have a show in mid-June at the Roxy in Los Angeles. Maybe she'll come to that and I can have a word or two with her."

And after getting through to Paris, Steven plans to zone in on her Simple Life co-star, the stick-thin Nicole Richie, and confront her about her weight. The Exies' new album, A Modern Way Of Living With The Truth, hits shelves May 15, and to sign the petition visit the full story link.- Click Here for the Full Story
