Icicles Arrivals & Departures
PR reports: Well, "La Ti Da", those hand-sewn matching-outfit-wearing pop sweethearts The Icicles are back with a brand new record! Arrivals & Departures clearly shows that the Grand Rapids band has matured since its last record, A Hundred Patterns. The Icicles' previous releases have always been undeniably influenced by the late great girl groups of the sixties, and this holds true for the songs on Arrivals & Departures. However, as opposed to the tunes on A Hundred Patterns, which fit more solidly into the "bubblegum" vein of pop, the eleven tracks on Arrivals & Departures have a whole new layer and depth to them, which in part is due to the addition of new lead guitarist, Rebecca Rodriguez.

The Icicles swing through a city near you in April in support of the brand new record (April 10, Microindie Records) with fellow Fanatic buzz band Casper and The Cookies, who will be fresh off tour with The Apples in Stereo. [see full story for dates]- Click Here for the Full Story

Chrisopher Blue Preview
PR reports: A subdued lullaby to a convoluted past, room tones' 12 tracks to be released April 17 - were forged from Chrisopher Blue's tumultuous life. The album is a slinky affair that illuminates Blue's cinematic narratives and booze-soaked croon (think a less nicotine-damaged Mark Lanegan) giving way to slow burning tracks which recall Jeff Buckley with their rich textures. Lyrics play out against spare piano, drums, upright bass and guitar effects that unfurl gloriously despite their resigned melancholy.

Manson Says Fur Is Garbage
PR reports: Stunning Shirley Manson is dressed to kill in her new ad for peta2. But the Garbage singer is holding a gruesome accessorythe dead body of a skinned foxbeside the caption "Here's the Rest of Your Fur Coat." The ad is a dramatic bid to show people that every fur coat, collar, and cuff is made from many animals who endured tremendous suffering. The campaign debuts in Manson's hometown of Edinburgh this week, where hundreds of copies of the hard-hitting ad are being posted throughout the city. Manson is also sponsoring a "Fur Is Garbage" giveaway at peta2.com, where visitors can register to win posters of the ad, a signed copy of Garbage's hit album Bleed Like Me, and a T-shirt autographed by Manson. Manson also talked about her career and her disdain for fur in an exclusive interview with peta2, the world's largest youth animal rights organization. Universities Deny RIAA
Techdirt reports: Lately, the RIAA has been on a high-profile campaign to get college students that the RIAA believes have been involved in illegal file trading to settle lawsuits against them at a "discount". As part of this strategy, the company has tried to enlist universities to help them identify and turn over the names of offending students. But it's heartening to see that some universities aren't spinelessly acquiescing to the RIAA's demands. The University of Wisconsin has told the RIAA that it has no obligation to rat its students out unless it's compelled to do so by a subpoena. Meanwhile, the University of Nebraska has told the RIAA that it can't help them identify many of the students accused of file trading. The school's system changes a computer's IP address each time its turned on, and it only keeps this information for month.[see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story
