The
Cursed Set Release |
PR reports: In the 1980's, many New Jersey-based
metalheads witnessed the emergence of two bands that rocketed out of the
metal underground - Overkill and Hades. Come 2007, the leaders of each
band - Overkill singer Bobby 'Blitz' Ellsworth and Hades guitarist Dan
Lorenzo - have joined forces in a new band, The Cursed, who are readying
the release of their debut full-length, 'Room Full of Sinners,' on May
22nd , via the Screaming Ferret label.
Along with bassist Job the Raver and drummer
Mike Cristi, the group spent much of the spring and summer of 2006 writing
and rehearsing new material. "Leven Als God in Frankrijk" brings to mind
vintage Motorhead, while the album's first single, "Evil, in the Bag" wouldn't
sound out of place on one of Black Sabbath's early '70s classic albums.
'Room Full of Sinners' also benefits greatly from the sound of a band that
hasn't been processed through ProTools - it sounds pretty darn close to
standing in the middle of the group's rehearsal space while they let it
rip. As a result, The Cursed will undoubtedly appeal to headbangers who
like their metal lean and mean. [see full story for more]-

Thine
Eyes Bleed Recording Soph CD |
PR reports: Canadian thrashers THINE EYES
BLEED have entered the studio to commence work on their sophomore album.
In an update from the studio frontman Justin Wolfe writes: "We entered
Beach Road Studio (located in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada) on March 11th,
2007 to begin tracking with Seigfried Meier. We will be here over the next
few weeks and are excited to dive into this recording. We are now a few
days into the drums and they sound amazing, the tracking room is nice and
spacious with high ceilings and pine walls creating great acoustics. Darryl
has been shredding his drum tracks so far, letting us know this is gonna
be some brutal s***! As for the rest of us, guitar hero has been the main
focus so far, enhancing our hand-eye coordination. Cheers, Justin"
The band re-released their 2005 debut for
THE END RECORDS, entitled "In the Wake of Separation", in May of 2006.
The CD included the bonus track "Better off Dead" (previously available
only in Japan) and the video for "Cold Victim".

Touch To Further Defy Classification With New Release |
PR reports: On March 20, 2007 Random Touch's
seventh CD (and second DVD) Alchemy will be released on the band's private
label Token Boy Records. Cinematic, emotionally charged music fuels the
all too short 68-minute CD. Echoes of Pink Floyd, Zappa, Can and early
Tangerine Dream resonate throughout Random Touch's Alchemy as it takes
the listener on an emotional journey through uncharted musical territory.
"Perhaps Frank Zappa might have made such music if he were alive today.
At any rate, Edgar Varese would certainly have listened intently and been
thoroughly changed by what he heard," touts Ragazzi magazine.
Haunting, dreamlike music videos, live
performances and talking heads inhabit the 2-hour DVD. As with The You
Tomorrow, several of the video shorts from the Alchemy DVD are screening
at film and video festivals.[see full story for more]-

The
Finals Find Their New Voice |
PR reports: For the New Jersey based rock
band The Finals, 2006 proved to be a pivotal year. With the release of
their first full-length album, "Plan Your Getaway," on Immortal Records,
the band was in full swing. But while the band extensively toured the U.S.
in support of the album, singer/bassist Matt Reilly faced a life changing
decision. After a few months on the road, Reilly decided to leave the band.
Left without a singer, the remaining members
were unsure of their future. Bottone reveals, "I was relieved and worried
at the same time. I knew we would continue to be a band, but with a new
record out and no singer I wasn't sure how we'd recover." After meeting
with management, the band made the decision to move forward by posting
anonymous ads online in search of a replacement. Andrew Seagle, a musician
from North Carolina whose band had just broken up, saw one of the posts.
Coaxed by his girlfriend, Seagle responded to the ad. With nothing holding
him back, Seagle hopped on a plane and headed to New Jersey. Well armed
with the four tunes the band requested, he immediately impressed the group,
and was offered the position after just a few hours. "He was more than
we could have hoped for," states Kisala. "He's the total package, musician
wise, and more importantly... personality wise."

Who
Let the Lawyers Out? |
TMZ reports: Members of the musical group
Baha Men, the guys behind the hit song "Who let the Dogs Out," claim they're
in the dog house over bad checks, and blame their record company for tarnishing
their good name.
In a lawsuit filed Monday in Los Angeles
County Superior Court, the Baha Men claim that Activate Entertainment never
forked over thousands of dollars owed for an album they were working on,
which forced the guys to cover expensive production costs with their own
cash. According to the lawsuit, "This led to overdrawn accounts," which
led to bad check writing.
In the lawsuit, the band claims that their
ensuing financial situation was so bad when they "did not receive the additional
$180,000 that was owed to them," that their lead singer, Isaiah Taylor
lost "his home to the bank for lack of funding."[see full story for more]-

This CD's softer, lighter Annie,
fuelled alternatively by angst and optimism offers a clean sometimes raw
sound that's a welcome respite from the one-dimensional, uni-themed, artificially
sweetened fare that's unfortunately not always limited to character-less
eateries. (3.5 stars)
