Electric Soft Parade US |
PR reports: Mercury Music Prize-nominated
English indie-rockers The Electric Soft Parade are masters of reinvention.
If you trace the career of your favorite artists, there are said to be
two groups: those who stick to a sound you love and those that constantly
twist and turn your perceptions of them, while never losing their own unique
traits (think The Flaming Lips, Super Furry Animals.) With No Need To Be
Down-Hearted, The Electric Soft Parade have proven themselves to be in
the latter group.
The duo of brothers Tom and Alex White
have been winning fans and accolades in the UK for five years, and now
America will get a chance to experience the band as their new album, Need
To Be Down-Hearted, sees US release on April 24th via Better Looking Records.

Likes to Jam? |
PR reports: In the age of the internet and
ipods, artists are discovering new ways to promote their music and use
the Intenet to their advantage. This advance is ignored by some of those
sticklers who tend to rely on the old "tried and true" methods. Others
choose to embrace it and use the internet as a creative outlet with which
they can share their art with the world. Rachel Fuller and her partner
Pete Townshend are the latter, having created Attic Jams, a webcast and
iTunes exclusive project!
In The Attic is an innovative web show
which features Rachel and Pete casually jamming out with The Flaming Lips,
The Racounteurs, The Zutons, Kooks, and more of today's most prominent
artists playing both their own songs and each other's. These live performances
were recorded in a trailer that was brought along on their European tour
last summer. They simply equipped the trailer with minimal recording equipment
and went from there! The laid back atmosphere of the show is what makes
this video show so unique. There are no dub-overs and no second takes,
it's just a jam session amongst friends. Rachel is completely at ease as
she idly chats with her guests. The web show is completely honest and totally
unscripted, each show broadcasting live. From those web shows came The
Attic Jams a compilation of some of their favorite recordings from the
sessions. The Attic Jams is available now on iTunes.[see full story for

Fratellis Debut |
PR reports: The sound of handclaps and dropped
beer bottle caps makes the album feel like sing-a-longs you stumble upon
in the back rooms of house parties. With that said, the highly anticipated
U.S. release of Costello Music, The Fratellis will debut their full-length
release on Interscope/Cherrytree Records on March 13th. The thirteen songs
off Costello Music were recorded in Los Angeles (with Beck producer Tony
Hoffer), letting in a bit of California sunshine to pierce any lingering
Glaswegian gloom. The album leaves no room for a single un-fun thought!
With Costello Music dropping March 13th,
The Fratellis are going to take a quick trip to the US in support of the
album! Dates listed below, come check 'em out![see full story for dates]-

Advice for Britney |
Submitted News/Extra reports: [and for today's
mandatory BS] "Extra" has all new video of Britney Spear wearing a brown
wig out and about in Santa Monica, California last night. Spears is all
smiles and has what appears to be pen drawings on her hands. It is being
reported that she stepped out of Promises for the evening for an AA meeting.
And Simon Cowell came to "Extra" with
a dose of tough love for Spears. He says, "I'd be saying go home to mom
and dad lock the door, eat some normal food, don't go out with your stupid
friends. Grow your hair back and make a decent record." Cowell reveals,
"I know for a fact there are about 20 record producers who are waiting
to get Britney Spears into a recording studio some of the best in the
world actually." As to whether or not Spears can make a comeback, Cowell
adds, "If she makes a decent record she'll have a hit." [Watch Extra for

and production expertise to several albums. Additionally, he toured as
a side man and played on sessions with artists as varied as Eminem, Dr.
Dré, Rosey, Joi, Nikka Costa, Bruce Hornsby and Everlast. However,
JB loves the blues and he is going to share the love in Austin for this
year's SXSW conference. JB is slated to appear at 8PM on Wednesday, March

Mortiis
Some Kind of Heroin |
PR reports: Industrial Goth enigma Mortiis
is set to release a remix album titled 'Some Kind of Heroin', reworking
material from 'The Grudge', on April 17 in Europe, via Earache Records.
For much of Mortiis' career, the striking visual aspect combined with his
rapid musical evolution has become a subject of much urban legend over
the years. And yet over a series of progressively more ambitious albums,
Mortiis has morphed into a band unit that has become known for aggressive
live shows and ambitious records, and has spawned two Top 50 UK singles.
In keeping with the rapidly developing
nature of the music and the direction of the band, 'Some Kind of Heroin'
offers diverse remix material including interpretations by a wide range
of contemporaries, such as Zombie Girl, Gothminister, Implant, XP8, Mental
Siege, PIG, The Kovenant, Velvet Acid Christ, Girls Under Glass, David
Wallace, Kubrick, Funker Vogt, Flesh Field, Dope Stars and In the Nursery.[see

Static-X
Cannibal |
PR reports: Static-X is breaking out of Hell's
sub-basement to release their fifth studio album, Cannibal, on April 3rd.
The band will also kick off a headlining tour on March 30th in Santa Ana,
CA. Comprising 12 of the harshest, most stripped-down tracks Static-X have
ever recorded, Cannibal also finds frontman Wayne Static & Co. sounding
leaner and meaner than they have in yearsa change the vertical-haired
guitarist, vocalist and chief songwriter attributes to the back-to-basics
approach they took to recording the album. "I think it's the most metal
record we've ever made, and it's arguably the heaviest record we've ever
made," Static explains. "But with this record, I had a good time just getting
back to balls-out screaming and challenging myself vocally, as well as
in the songwriting. I felt like I was back working on Wisconsin Death Trip,
where I focused on stripping away the excess as much as possible to write
short, simple, catchy songs."[see full story for tour dates]-

Rolling
Racist Stone? |
DiR reports: Rolling Stones is trying to tap
into the blogging market which includes an inane blog by Rob Sheffield
about American Idol. Remember you can't watch and draw your own conclusions;
you have to go to RS for opinions. (Good thing for Led Zeppelin, people
didn't do that in their day). Nevertheless, the latest blog had what some
may consider a bit of racism in it as Sheffield proclaimed that "white
girls can't sing". Oops, don't tell that to RS darlings the Dixie Chicks!
Another reason why they should leave the blogging to the professionals.
If you care to read the blog and can spare a few IQ points click on over
to the full story link. Next thing you know they'll try and make Clay Aiken
look "sexy" with a cover image.. wait they already did that. -

With this masterful, genre-redefining
album, Wolves in the Throne Room has nothing to do with the original black
metal scene at all! And therein lies the greatness that this band could
have; the fact that they aren't afraid to recast conventions, including
their own. - Read

Listening to The Comfies is
akin to listening to The Romantics circa 1980, except "Close to Me" is
not the classic "What I Like About You" is, and the drummer does not have
the wherewithal to pull off milk on his drumheads. (2 stars)
