Congress Abandon Webcasters

TuneLab reports: Looks like the Internet Radio Equality Act will not come up for a vote in Congress. After hearing testimony from seven witnesses from independent record label owners, musicians and webcasters, House Small Business Committee Chairwoman Nydia Velazquez stated, "I really don't think Congress would be the best type of vehicle to resolve this type of issue. July 15th is just around the corner and I hope the two parties can come together and resolve this issue." Matchbox Twenty Recording

TuneLab reports: Matchbox Twenty are in the studio working with producer Steve Lillywhite (U2, Rolling Stones) on a retrospective hits set titled 'Exile On Mainstream' which is set for an October 2nd release. The album will include six new tracks and eleven of the bands previous hits.

The band has also announced that drummer Paul Doucette will take over on rhythm guitar- more on this story

Sounds of the Underground Kickoff Party

PR reports: The summer's biggest metal tour along with one of Dallas' biggest radio stations are celebrating the start of the Third Annual Sounds of the Underground tour with a huge kickoff party on July 5!! Live 105 FM will co-host the pre-show bash at The Loft, located inside Dallas' Palladium.

Tons of artists performing at the kickoff show on July 6 will be in attendance. The party is open to anyone who has bought a ticket for the tour, as well as local contest winners. Vital Remains Live DVD

PR reports: Vital Remains - Evil Death Live DVD will hit stores on 9/18/07. This DVD features killer live footage of the icons of extreme death metal filmed at Metalmania 2007 in Poland. It includes nearly one hour of their gloomy trademark ultra fast massacre style metal! The track list of this release is comprised of songs from the very well received album "Dechristianized", and also from the band's latest outstanding release "Icons of Evil". The DVD also includes an interview with Tony Lazaro (one of the band's founders) and Dave Suzuki, bonus live footage and many other surprises.

Thursday Return to Victory

PR reports: Thursday have returned to Victory Records. They issued the following statement about the return and what to expect: We have some exciting news!!! We know that everyone is wondering what is next for us (New Label? New Record? Touring? Breaking up?). We're proud to announce that we will be releasing a DVD/CD on our former label, Victory Records. Surprise! A lot of the footage from this DVD was taken during the time we spent on Victory and we thought it was appropriate to release it with them. On a more personal note, many of you know that our parting with Victory was bitter on both sides and we're taking this chance to put that behind us. That label really helped us get to where we are and we helped them to establish themselves as well... "coming full circle" and "making amends" are some of the phrases that we could throw around here but we think you get the picture already. Tony's passion for this project and his continued support of the band after all these years has helped to make this an easy decision.

The DVD/Album package will be in stores October 30, 2007 and the label had this to say: The release, as of yet untitled, will consist of a full length feature DVD and a full length Album. The DVD will tell Thursday's 10 year career story from the beginning to the present. It will contain interviews with the band and their team, archived show and behind the scenes footage spanning the band's career to date and hints to the band's future. The DVD will feature enhanced menus, a "Making of the song" and "The Making of Full Collapse" featurettes, the original version of "How Long Is The Night" with visuals, an audio-enhanced photo gallery, laminate gallery and more. All Around Flyleaf

PR reports: Flyleaf's back at it with a brand new video for "All Around Me" � the band's 3rd single off of their self titled release is here for the world to see. Directed by Paul Fedor (Deftones, Seether, Evanescence) and produced by Laura Morris, Flyleaf captivates the audience quickly with the opening shot of Lacey in black in a white room with the band and instruments decked out in a bright white as well.

The Secret Handshake Debut

PR reports: The Secret Handshake aka BAPE wearing, emo-tronic sounding, laptop extraordinaire Luis Dubuc will release his debut full length One Full Year September 25th on Triple Crown Records. One Full Year is the follow up to the March 2007 EP Summer Of '98 which featured TSH remixes from Spank Rock, P.O.S., The Toxic Avenger and Dillinger Escape Plan. 

One Full Year is a diverse pop album that sees The Secret Handshake experimenting with beats ranging from electro to house to hip hop to r&b. Luis is a product of his influences, if you asked him who he looks up to artistically he'd tell you Mouse on Mars, Justice, Kanye West, John Legend, Kenna and Death Cab. Ever heard something that sounds like all of those artists put together before? Didn't think so...

U-MYX, an interactive music format that lets users make personalized mixes of major artists recordings without requiring any special knowledge or equipment, ran a promotion/contest with The Secret Handshake around the EP and was absolutely floored by the fans' reactions. Their 'Summer Of '98' remix contest outperformed almost all of the other artists they've run these things with like Lily Allen, Imogen Heap and Hard-Fi. Drowning Pool Vet Cause

PR reports: In what may seem like an unlikely alliance, hard rock band Drowning Pool, non-profit organization Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) and 15 year-old YouTube video producer Lizzie Palmer are teaming up to encourage young people to support expanded health care for veterans returning from Iraq & Afghanistan. They are launching a campaign called �This Is For the Soldiers' and asking Americans to support legislation currently before congress which addresses the urgent need to get better mental health care for veterans. The campaign includes a website (www.thisisforthesoldiers.org) which hosts a petition urging congress to support the Lane Evans Mental Health Care Reform bill along with a powerful music video created by Palmer.

SSS UK Summer

Paul McCartney's Instore

PR reports: Amoeba Music gave close to a thousand fans a once in a lifetime opportunity to see Sir Paul McCartney perform for free, Wednesday night in Hollywood. Devout fans camped out for days to gain admittance into the store, coming from all over the United States and as far as Japan. Finally around 8:00pm, their prayers were answered as the ecstatic crowd entered the music-lover's home to rousing cheers and applause from the Amoeba staff inside. The priceless appearance marked the rock icon's first show in his nearly half a century career to take place in a record store. Motley Judgement

PR reports: The World Series of Video Games (WSVG), Presented by Intel, has announced that MÖTLEY CRÜE's VINCE NEIL leads the pack of special guest judges that will evaluate "Guitar Hero II" competitors. Attendees can look forward to seeing the legendary heavy metal icon at the finals of the upcoming Dallas, Texas event, July 5-8 at the Gaylord Texan Resort. Spike TV host Geoff Keighley and PC GameSpy.com's editor-in-chief Sal "Sluggo" Accardo will assist VINCE NEIL with the judging. Additional judges for later events will be announced at a later date.
