Partum Britney |
TMZ reports: TMZ has learned Britney Spears'
troubles may have little to do with substance abuse. Sources say doctors
at her rehab facility think the underlying reason for her trouble may be
post-partum depression.
Sources tell TMZ that Britney's doctors
have two operating theories -- either that she suffers from post-partum
depression or bipolar disorder. As for substance abuse, as one source says,
"No doubt about it - she likes to drink." But doctors believe the drinking
is a way Spears has coped with a bigger problem.[see full story for more]-

The collection is a remarkable primer of the HighTone Records history,
painstakingly culled from their archives to truly reflect just what co-founders
Larry Sloven and Bruce Bromberg set out to accomplish and serves as an
overview of both the varying genres of roots music and artists that built
the label.[see full story for tracklisting]- Click

Run
DMC Live At Montreux 2001 |
Kayos reports: Eagle Rock Entertainment (through
its wholly-owned Eagle Records [CD] and Eagle Eye Media [DVD]) will release
on April 3 Run DMC Live At Montreux 2001 in both formats. The DVD is 66
minutes long and retails for $14.98. The CD is approximately the same length
and retails for $13.98.
This groundbreaking Queens NY rap groupJoseph
Simmons (Run), Darryl McDaniels (DMC) and the late Jason Mizell (Jam Master
Jay, who died tragically just months after this concert)pioneered hiphop's
ascent into the upper echelons of pop music. Their string of hit singles
starting in the early 80s and multi-platinum albums crossed over to all
audiences, as typified by their stirring duet with Aerosmith on "Walk This
Way." Although this trio was listed as #48 in Rolling Stone's "100 Greatest
Artists Of All Time" in 2004, Live At Montreux 2001 is the only known commercially
available Run DMC concert DVD.[see full story for tracklist]-

Clash
Sandinista! Tribute |
conqueroo reports: Sandinista!, recorded by
The Clash in 1980, was one of the most ambitious records in the history
of rock 'n' roll. According to one of its biggest fans, author and journalist
Jimmy Guterman, "It wasn't necessarily their best record, their best-selling
record, or even their most enjoyable record, but it's an exciting, sprawling
mess that I return to constantly." Guterman liked it so much, in fact,
that he took it upon himself to amass a tribute as ambitious as the album
itself 36 tracks by nearly as many different artists. On May 1, 00:02:59
Records a label named after a lyric from the Sandinista! song "Hitsville
U.K." will release The Sandinista! Project as a two-CD set, with profits
split between two charities Amnesty International (heartily supported
by The Clash) and the Joe Strummer Memorial Forest, which is a division
of Future Forests, an organization fighting global warming.
In preparing the Herculean task of commissioning
36 songs to correlate with Sandinista!'s own 36, album producer Guterman
called upon artists with whom he'd admired over his years as a journalist.
Initial reactions were generally along the lines of "That's the craziest
idea I've ever heard." The second reaction, following a brief pause, was
"I want in." Guterman received enthusiastic commitments from such artists
as The Smithereens, Camper Van Beethoven, Jon Langford & Sally Timms,
Amy Rigby, Katrina Leskanich (Waves), Sid Griffin & Coal Porters, Willie
Nile, Matthew Ryan, Stew, Sex Clark Five and many more. Some recorded faithful
tributes, other nearly dada-esque abstractions of the songs in question.
And many boasted their own organic thread to the Clash, the song in question
or both.[see full story for the full tracklisting]- Click

the full Pillar - The Reckoning (Special Edition) review
For a prog metal band, Pagan's
Mind creates some of the catchiest choruses in the genre, and even though
'catchy' is often equated with 'bad' by elitists, there is no redeeming
value in being a total shred monster. Many times this isn't even progressive.
