Dope's
Angel |
SMN reports: DOPE have announced the addition
of new drummer "Angel" to their ranks for all upcoming tours and to record
drum tracks on the new DOPE album:
"We are very excited to announce that we
have found our new DOPE drummer in Angel. He's a great technical player
and he's got a ton of the visual eye candy that has always been a part
of DOPE's live show. It has been more than a year and a half since Racci
took what turned into a permanent leave of absence from the band. Through
that time, we've done several tours with fill in drummers, while beginning
to write the new DOPE album and decide on our permanent replacement. [see

Roth
on Van Halen Reunion |
DiR reports: David Lee Roth spoke exclusively
to Rolling Stone's Brian Hiatt about the Van Halen Reunion. Here is part
of their conversation: On his first post-reunion jam with Eddie:
Eddie and I wrote the songs, every note,
every syllable, as if we invented a language that only we can speak. It
was an easy, natural thingWhen you speak a language that you both created,
it's natural to go, "I know you." So it was very easy. There wasn't any
stumble at all. I just showed up, and twenty minutes later, it was the
usual, "How's the wife, how's the kids, let's play." When you're born to
do that language, you speak it naturally. I never forgot it. [see the full

Turmoil's
Eulogy |
Lambgoat reports: Eulogy Recordings has officially
announced their recent signing of Turmoil. As you may recall, Turmoil left
the Abacus Recordings roster earlier this year. Here's the official press
release:

metalcore movement. The band have also partnered up with Freeze Artist
Management (My Chemical Romance, the Used, Story of the Year, Warped Tour,
Taste of Chaos tours) and Keith Isola (Madball, Head Automatica) to ensure
not one fan of cutting-edge crossover be left undisturbed by Turmoil's
enraged presence on the scene. The long-awaited, as-yet-unnamed, follow-up
to their monumental third album, The Process Of, is completely written
and will be released this summer to coincide with an extensive touring
campaign.[see full story for more]- Click

Sonic
Youth, Wooden Wand, James and The Quiet |
PR reports: Sonic Youth bassist Kim Gordon
must've been busy or out of town. Because one way or another, the rest
of her band was involved in the making of James and The Quiet, the forthcoming
album by folkadelic troubadour Wooden Wand.
Thurston Moore -- Sonic Youth's spry, eternally-teenaged
guitarist/vocalist -- has signed Wooden Wand to his tastemaker Ecstatic
Peace label (home of Be Your Own Pet), announcing plans for a May 15th
release. The album was produced by SY guitarist Lee Ranaldo (who also plays
some stringed things on the recording), and longtime SY drummer Steve Shelley
provides his signature rhythmic strut. [see full story for more]-

Opera
Supply |
PR reports: When Graham Russell was nine years
old, he ventured for the first time into a forest, located just at the
edge of his hometown of Nottingham, England, that has captured the Western
World's imagination for over seven centuries. Finding himself lost in the
dark, dense and spooky Sherwood Forestthe real live home of the great
Robin Hood legendhe says, "its magic became a part of me. I somehow felt
I had returned home." Now, many years, countless hit records and thousands
of concerts around the world later, Russellbetter known to still-rabid
romantic pop music fans as one half of Air Supply, with songwriting and
performing partner Russell Hitchcockis bringing that magic to glorious
and exciting musical life with his ambitious new rock opera The Heart Of
The Rose.
With forty pop and rock flavored songs
penned by Russell and a book written by the composer, his wife Jodi Russell
and noted British historical writer Graham Phillips (author of the 1988
bestseller Robin Hood: The True Story), the musical presents the real story
behind the powerful Robin Hood myths that have hijacked it in our renderings
of the tale since the 14th century. The Heart Of The Rose, based on the
extensive historical research of Philips, is the culmination of a 20-year
musical journey for Russell, who started the project at his home studio
in 1987 (a few years beyond Air Supply's initial heyday) and worked on
it in pieces over the years between the band's frenetic tour schedule of
over 120 global dates per year.[see full story for more]-

titled "Classic (Better Than I've Ever Been DJ Premier Remix)" will also
be available on iTunes for purchase. The tracks will be sold individually

Great
Northern Debut |
PR reports: A beautiful dream-like state is
one way to describe Great Northern's debut, 'Trading Twilight for Daylight,'
or maybe the title is more apt. It's like that time of day in California,
when the sun is setting and everything appears golden, and a warm feeling
comes over you...
Twinkling piano leads into a beautiful
voice, backed by a melodious second voice. Enter stark drumbeats and a
slight echo in the background. Strings. Xylophone. Guitar. Harmonies. You're
now listening to opening track "Our Bleeding Hearts."
The lush textures and unforgettable melodies
take you on a sonic voyage, while the rich harmonies permeate these neatly
disguised pop songs. Contrasting and magnificent, the common thread is
the male-female vocals that weave seamlessly. The ten-track collection
will be released May 15, 2007 on Eenie Meenie Records, home to other locals,
Irving and Goldenboy.- Click

Mentors
DVD |
PR reports: Mentors - El Duce Vita DVD will
be in stores 04/03/07 from MVD. This, the first Mentors DVD, is compiled
from hours and hours of archival footage. The Mentors, formed in 1977 by
Guitarist Sickie Wifebeater (Eric Carlson), Bassist Dr. Heathen Scum (Steve
Broy), and the immortal Drummer / Singer El Duce (Eldon Hoke, RIP), were
true innovators in the realm of Heavy Metal and Rock and Roll. While their
dirty lyrics were at one time shocking to some, along with their humor,
their performances have stood the test of time. This DVD contains live
performances from the band in its prime, and also includes some of their
concept videos. [see full story for track info]- Click

Jonny Lives has an affinity
for late '70s power-poppers like the Knack and Greg Kihn and one of the
best songs on Get Steady, "Cliche," could have slugged it out on the radio
with "My Sharona" or Kihn's "Valerie." (3 stars)

These days the metal youth have
found gained their metal stripes from extremely melodic metal bands that
are simply borderline emo. Orange County, Ca is home to a number of these
bands Scars of Tomorrow also hail from the OC area and have fallen to
the MTV2 crowd just as have their neighbors and predecessors.- Read

I just caught a glimpse of some
writer who called Andy Werth "ballsy", but I consider that writer to be
"ballsy" one for using such a word to describe Mr. Werth. I'm thinking
more Partridge Family than "ballsy".- Read
