Jon Foreman (Switchfoot) Week: The Cure For Pain |
The Cure For Pain: I wrote this one in Texas on a day off. I was reflecting on the passing of time. I have been playing music in Switchfoot for about ten years. During that period, I have been fighting pain or running away from it in a myriad of ways. And yet the pain is a constant. I have had some amazing moments singing gravity away but the water keeps on falling.
I began to think the suffering I see around me, I think of the pain of a grandmother dying of cancer. Of a friend killed by a train. I think of the pain of death, of failure, of rejection, the pain of a father losing his only son. And I came to the conclusion that I cannot run from pain any longer.

Idol Sex Tape |
In fact it's a sex tape of Jessica Sierra, who we're told did moderately well at American Idol two years ago. And the sex tape isn't Jessica Sierra's only problem right now - that comes in the form of an arrest for intoxication and resisting arrest which violates her parole from the time she was arrested for battery and cocaine possession.
But while Jessica Sierra faces the possibility of a lengthy jail sentence, we all get the sex tape to look forward to. And since we didn't even know who Jessica Sierra even was until about 10 seconds ago, it's basically going to be a video of an anonymous, slightly rough-looking woman having it off. We can't decide if that makes it better or worse, actually
Secret Green Day Songs? |
The group are currently working on a follow-up to their 2004 disc, American Idiot, but the stark similarities in vocals between Green Day front man Billie Joe Armstrong and those on the Foxboro Hot Tubs' EP have got Internet blogs wondering whether the Holiday hitmakers have gone undercover to experiment with a new 1960s-inspired sound. [listen at http://www.myspace.com/foxborohottubs]
If Green Day are proven to be behind the Foxboro Hot Tubs, it would not be the first time they have released tracks under a pseudonym [Doesn't just about every emo/pop-punk singer these days try sound a bit like Billie Joe? The trick we hear is to hold your nostrils closed while singing. More on the past secret release here]

Fall Out Boy Mad About Grammy Snub |
The bassist used Fall Out Boy's journal on their official website to vent his frustration at the snubbing under the title 'got bitterness? vs. a revelation on true connection (and the award goes to).'
With mixed feelings, he writes (typos and all): "the first reaction is jealousy mixed with a slight sense of entitlement. we just want to be a part of your club. we feel like the orphans in the movie the warriors, when we are just dying to be the baseball furies. the truth be told though when you explore it further than that you realize much more. other than the fact that we play the events for you and the right parties all the time (which is a bit embarrassing either for you or us, not sure which, possibly both. its kind of like being invited to a birthday party and then not allowed to eat the cake.)- it shouldnt mean much. (almost) noone in this industry has vision beyond the fear that this week is their last pay check.
NIN Slam The Grammys |
While the post no longer appears on the frontpage of the official Nine Inch Nails website here is what Trent had to say:

Jane's Addition's Eric Avery Sets Solo Debut |
Meticulously constructed and appropriately titled, Avery did indeed receive a helping hand from some friends for his first formal solo effort. Shirley Manson of Garbage, Taylor Hawkins of the Foo Fighters and Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers each lent a special contribution to the record, ranging from vocals to trumpet. Throughout the album's 12 tracks, Avery travels through Bowie-esque space voyages ("Walk Through Walls [The Man Who Can Fly Pt. 2]") to pastoral spoken-word landscapes ("Revolution"), dealing with his meditations from the political to the profound.

As I Lay Dying, Shadows Fall and Course Of Nature React To Grammy Nominations |
Metal Blade Records is proud to announce As I Lay Dying's Grammy Nomination for Best Metal Performance for "Nothing Left," the first single from their newest release, An Ocean Between Us. Vocalist Tim Lambesis says: "I thought someone was pulling my leg when I first heard that we're nominated for a Grammy this year. "I'm completely honored! Who would have thought you could play metal and still make your parents this proud? Now I'll have to go out and rent a tux to wear for the third time in my life. I knew I should have just bought one the first time"
Atlantic recording artist Shadows Fall has received a Grammy nomination for Best Metal Performance for the song "Redemption" off their critically acclaimed label debut, THREADS OF LIFE. Shadows Fall frontman Brian Fair said the following: "We walked off stage in Milan Italy last night after a killer set on the Black Crusade tour and my phone started buzzing. After cracking a beer I checked my message and was absolutely shocked and amazed to find out that we had been nominated for our second Grammy!!! Redemption has been nominated in the best metal performance category for this year and I could not be more proud. The song is a celebration of the power of music and the human voice as an agent of change and to have it recognized in such a way is incredible. We were able to celebrate last night with our brothers in Machinehead who were also nominated. This years nominees show that real metal has demanded the attention and respect of the industry; and to be acknowledge alongside such influential and innovative bands like Slayer, King Diamond, Machinehead and As I Lay Dying is a true honor. We learned the hard way last year that the booze gets cut off way too early so we will be partying early and hard!!"
