Lifesavas
Coming Next Week |
PR reports: Portland-based Lifesavas, which
are comprised of emcee/producer JUMBO and emcee VURSATYL, have captured
the nation's attention with this upcoming release, Gutterfly, which is
set for release April 24th on Quannum Projects. Rolling Stone listed them
as one of the Top 10 Artists to Watch in 2007 feature. The duo drew their
inspiration for the album from blaxploitation videos from the 70's, particularly
the cartoon flick Coonskin. They created a concept for a film, complete
with fictional characters and compiled it into the best format they know
- through poetic songwriting and powerhouse beats. Gutterfly is Lifesavas'
sophomore album and an incredibly artist and creative piece of work.

Verismo
Thrashing the Emo Competition |
PR reports: Forget bed-head haircuts, eye
shadow, and skinny jeans. Forget the whiny Clash-wannabe bands dominating
the airwaves, and dig into 'City of Kings,' the debut album from a rip-roaring,
headbanging, alcohol-fueled "thrash f*ckin' metal" band from Brooklyn,
VERISMO (which is Italian for 'realism'). Comprised of Stephan Laboccetta
(vocals, guitar), Vincent Cruz (bass), and Tamas Vajda (drums), Verismo
is a return to the good old days of thrash, when musicians knew their instruments,
vocals were both intense and intelligible, and a live show was truly an
experience. This is not a throwback or "old school" anything, this is three
dirty metalheads from Brooklyn who can shred on their instruments, drink
you under the table, and put on a live show that will leave you breathless.
"City of Kings", the crushing debut from Verismo, was recorded in one continuous
take under the watchful eye of Dean Baltulonis (Sick Of It All), mastered
at Trutone Studios by Joe Lambert (Ted Nugent, Alice Cooper), and delivered
in a package truly representative of the post industrial wasteland sections
of Brooklyn, the "city of kings" were the members met and wrote what is
sure to become an independent classic.
Already competing with the majors, this
record has independently charted on the FMQB top 50, and has been in regular
rotation in many local and distant stations, including a spot in the top
ten of WSOU for weeks by this point. All three members are no slouches
on their instruments, either, as Laboccetta received his degree music at
Radford University, ex- Ringling Brothers performer/acrobat Vajda received
a diploma from the Drummers Collective, and Cruz was trained at the Brooklyn
Conservatory of Music. As a result, Verismo is a band that fans of vintage
thrash and hard rock are guaranteed to appreciate. Check out the E card

Weedeater
Set Release Date |
PR reports: After a long and arguably grueling
courtship, Southern Lord is finally harmoniously involved with North Carolinas'
filthiest, and finest heathens: WEEDEATER! Some of you may remember their
appalling and compelling appearance at the Southern Lord South by Southwest
showcase in 2003, and track on the very first Southern Lord label compilation:
"Let There Be Doom". Well now this summerwe are stoked to be bringing
you their Lord debut album "God Luck and Good Speed".
The album was recorded in Jan. and Feb.
of this year in Chicago at Electrical Audio with Steve Albini at the controls.
The result is massive, mammoth and crushing! To compliment the audio, artist
Arik Roper (Sleep, High on Fire etc..) will be handling graphic art duties.
Please have a shot of whiskey in honor of this glorious moment.[see full
