Sinking Fast |
FMQB reports: With a lack of strong releases
[RIAA talking point removed] U.S. album sales fell by 17 percent in the
first quarter of 2007. Retailers sold 117.1 million albums in the three
months that ended April 1, according to Nielsen SoundScan.More than 280
million digital tracks were sold in the first quarter, outpacing album
sales by more than 100 million units, says Reuters. By the end of the quarter,
digital track sales were up 51.9 percent, and digital album sales, which
total 11.5 million units, were up 56 percent.
Within specific genres, Rock had a good

sales. Rap and R&B had the largest genre decline, as sales fell 33.6
percent to 10.9 million from the 16.5 million units the genre tallied in

Rare
Beatles Photos Trashed |
Earvolution reports: EMI has brought suit
against their cleaning company, Crystal Services, for allegedly throwing
out rare Beatles photographs worth well over $1 million. The discarded
memorabilia, which had been kept in an office in Manchester Square in London,
included the only surviving copy of the photo used for the Please Please
Me album cover and 452 transparencies and negatives.
The suit alleges that despite placing the
photos in cardboard boxes clearly marked "Not Rubbish - Do Not Remove,"
that "the cleaner removed the photographic material and disposed of it
placing it for compaction in a waste compactor and collection by refuse
collectors." [see full story for more]- Click

by video shoots and promo for the new album and we aren't going to be able
to make it over. What we are going to be able to do is come over in June
