Static-X Week: Inside Destroyer
Day in Rock reports: We continue our Static-X special today with Wayne telling us a bit about "Destroyer," the first single from the new CD. Here is Wayne: "One of the keys to our early success was keeping the songs simple. For Destroyer, I started with the most simple drum beat used a million times in rock music. I programmed the beat on my Akai MPC 2000 and started playing guitar to it. The opening riff came to me quickly. I wanted to make sure this song stayed in the Evil Disco realm so I turned on my Korg Electribe MX and came up with the synth bass line for the chorus. I love the lyrics on this song. I imagined a person who destroys the mood where ever he/she goes."

Gay Shock By Jocks
CMJ reports: When New York City band A Brief Smile walked into WFNY, 92.3 Free FM's studios last week for "Talent Tuesdays" on The Dog House's morning show, they were expecting their first shot at commercial radio play. But what they experienced was something quite different. Upon entering the studio for their interview, bassist John Carnes made a comment about the decline in quality of the station. As a result, the show's two hosts, Jeff Vandergrift ("JV") and Dan Lay ("Elvis"), shot back with relentless insults, calling him a "pansy" and eventually "a faggot."

The DJs kicked the 21-year-old bass player out of the studio for disrespecting the show but still gave the band a shot at playing their song, "This Machine," off of their self-released debut album, R.E.S.T., on air. As with every Tuesday's segment, the hosts discussed the song and brought callers on with their reactions. After playing the song, Elvis exclaimed, "I thought the bass sucked, threw the rhythm off of everything. It felt like a faggot was playing it." Carnes, outside of the studio, immediately reacted to the use of the slur and came back in to react.

Paris Sues MTV?
TMZ reports: Could art be misrepresenting life for Paris Hilton? Her lawyers are threatening to sue MTV over a comedy sketch in which she's portrayed giving a stripper-ific dance to a cop who's pulled her over for DUI.

The celebutante played herself in a sketch comedy show produced by her friend Nick Cannon, says Page Six, in which she sells "What Would Paris Do" bracelets, for a new MTV show called "ShortCircuitz." But then the action shifts to a "real-life" situation in which a blonde bimbette (not Paris) in a miniskirt gets pulled over for drunk driving, checks her WWPD bracelet, and proceeds to treat one of the cops as though he were a stripper pole.[see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Hammerfall Singer Takes a Fall
Blabbermouth reports: Swedish melodic metallers HAMMERFALL have posted the following message on their official web site:

"Joacim [Cans, vocals] broke a bone in his elbow during a taekwon-do training session on Monday. Says he: 'It was during the warm-up, we were doing rushes across the room when I somehow slipped and went full-speed into the concrete wall. I managed to get the right arm up to try to stop the momentum, so that arm took all of my weight and got sandwiched between me and the wall. The thing with a broken elbow is, you don't get a cast or even a bandage. The doctor just said to take pills to combat the pain which is pretty bad, sometimes and try to move it a lot to prevent it from getting stiff. I will be OK in a month or so.'[see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

McGraw Tops Chart
Idolator.com reports: We were all set to christen Now 24, which collects slightly moldy top-40 fodder like "Fergalicious," "How To Save A Life," and "My Love," with this week's No. 1 on the Billboard 200, and then we realized that we'd forgotten about the power of Tim McGraw. The son of former Mets reliever Tug--and spouse of Faith Hill--took the top spot on this week's chart, with Let It Go selling 325,000 copies in its first week. The End of Mallcore
punkbands reports: Trends turn, yet Hot Topic always seems to be, well, a "hot topic" in news, however maybe not much longer. They've recently reported a 16% decline in sales in the last business quarter (4Q 2006), and expecting even less this quarter. A few weeks after this report, the President and the CFO were awarded almost $270,000 in bonuses, citing "in recognition of performance during fiscal 2006." Interesting to say the least.[see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

The tour, which brings Poison and Ratt onstage together for the first time since 1999, will visit amphitheaters, festivals and fairs in such cities as Boston, Detroit, New York, New Jersey and Los Angeles, says Troy Blakely, who books Poison with the Agency for the Performing Arts.

Keef Snorting At Joke Reaction
Earvolution reports: Keith Richards set the internet abuzz the last couple of days after telling NME that he snorted some of his deceased father's ashes with a line of cocaine. The Rolling Stones guitarist was quoted as saying, "The strangest thing I've tried to snort? My father. I snorted my father. He was cremated and I couldn't resist grinding him up with a little bit of blow. My dad wouldn't have cared. ... It went down pretty well, and I'm still alive."

Richards is reportedly confounded that people actually believed the story. His manager now tells MTV that the comments were made "in jest."[see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Steve Bertrand Returns
PR reports: STEVE BERTRAND, former lead-singer for the Tories and Avion, is set to release his debut solo album, Pain Is A Megaphone, on May 8, 2007 through Icon MES. Self-produced, this debut features a number of well known musical guests including Rami Jaffee (The Wallflowers) on B3, piano, chamberlin and keyboards, Sean Hurley (Vertical Horizon) on bass, and Sean Woolstenhulme (Lifehouse) on electric guitar.

As the former lead singer/guitarist of the Tories (produced by Phil Ramone), Bertrand scored two critically acclaimed albums and hit the Top 10 at MTV2 with their first single, "Gladys Kravitz." Bertrand then turned his talents towards composing for film and TV. He is credited with the theme song for Christina Applegate's TV series Jesse and went on to earn two ASCAP Film and Television Awards. When the Tories broke-up, Bertrand put together Avion (Columbia Records) and scored another Top 20 Hot AC hit, "Seven Days Without You," referred to by People Magazine as the band's "dreamy ballad." Teddy Geiger later re-recorded "Seven . . ." and released it on his latest album. - Click Here for the Full Story
