Back When Prep CD
PR reports: The following is a statement from Back When regarding the writing process of their next album: "We are currently knee-deep in the writing process for our next record and it is going splendidly. The songs are shaping up to have a much more structured and streamlined feel, with the noodling fat cut off. The overall feel we get from these songs is something bright, shining, yet completely dirty in its undertones. Hope you all like it as much as we do. Songs being considered now are "Choir of Gods", "Golden", "The Looming", "The Sloth" and "Polishing Brass" with "Hypocenter" pretty much abandoned. We only played that song once in Omaha so if you were there you witnessed its first and only public listening."

I Like Beer
PR/DiR reports: If you aren't familiar with Dan Reeder, then you should know that the Louisiana born singer songwriter has come out with Sweetheart, his second album in stores this week. Sweetheart consists of 15 original songs, plus a cover of Procol Harum's "A Whiter Shade of Pale," that sounds like the demo version Gary Brooker probably dreamed of singing 39 years ago before all that baroque production-work got in the way.

Certain themes recur on Sweetheart: Dan likes to drink ("I Drink Beer"); Dan likes to think about, and have, sex ("Pussy Titty"; "Pussy Heaven"--for the son of a minister, he's got quite a mouth on him). But most of the time, Sweetheart is about the sound of Dan Reeder's cracked, dry, confiding voice and the pleasant noises he gets out his homemade guitars, his multi-tracked harmonies with himself and his occasional puff on a harmonica. [grab a sixpack and check out an mp3 of "I Like Beer" at the full story link]

Solo Metric
PR reports: Emily Haines (of Metric and Broken Social Scene), is stepping out of band format and is set to release her first solo album Knives Don't Have Your Back on September 26, 2006. You may hear faint traces of her other bands in this work but this collection of songs listens more like a chapter from Emily's personal diary, which makes sense as the album's content is borne of four years spent living in four different cities while on tour with Metric. With stark piano melodies, and haunting vocals Emily proves her stock as one of the leading ladies in rock today. Check out an MP3 of the song "Doctor Blind" at the full story link. - Click Here for the Full Story
