Operation:
Tunes |
PR reports: The most popular entertainment
item asked for by the military personnel who miss home is music. In an
effort to bring the gift of music to U.S. troops stationed in Iraq and
Afghanistan and to wounded soldiers back home, the Rock Ridge Music label
has just launched an initiative called "Operation: Tunes." For this, the
label is enlisting the help of some of their current business partners
and organizations that can help place the music accordingly. Rock Ridge
Music will be sharing music with all arms of the military via a number
of military and civilian organizations, including: http://www.Give2thetroops.org
and http://www.TreatAnySoldier.com (via care packages to specific groups
and platoons overseas) http://SemperFiFund.org and Fort Sam Houston's Brooke
Army Medical Center (http://www.bamc.amedd.army.mil/) (discs will be given
to injured Marines and Army soldiers)
While this project is being spearheaded
by Rock Ridge Music label principals Tom Derr, Jason Spiewak, and Chris
Henderson (who is also guitarist for the multi-platinum band 3 Doors Down),
they will be accomplishing this effort through the help of some of their
current business partners, including: Alternative Distribution Alliance
(ADA) * Astro - Dynamic Printing * Five.Bolt.Main * Stroke 9 * Sister Hazel
- Anyone interested in joining the cause, whether to donate music or to
help in distributing music to the troops, should contact Derr directly
at [email protected]. - Click

Pogues
Reissues |
PR reports: Rhino will reissue all 5 of The
Pogues' studio albums including Red Roses For Me, Rum, Sodomy & The
Lash, If I Should Fall From Grace With God, Peace & Love and Hell's
Ditch on September 19th.
Soulful and soused, usually in equal parts,
The Pogues' music combined the youthful spirit of punk with ancient Celtic
melodies to create a sublime racket that's been described as the Sex Pistols
setting fire to The Chieftains. Rhino Records raises a pint in one hand
and a fistful of Pogues in the other with remastered and expanded versions
of the band's first five studio albums -- Red Roses For Me, Rum, Sodomy
& The Lash (produced by Elvis Costello), If I Should Fall From Grace
With God (produced by Steve Lillywhite), Peace & Love (produced by
Steve Lillywhite), and Hell's Ditch (produced by Joe Strummer). Each reissued
album will be available September 19.- Click

Gothic
Box |
PR reports: Rhino Entertainment will release
4-disc A Life Less Lived: The Gothic Box on September 19, 2006. Long before
its black velvet and pale skin fashions crept into American malls, Goth
music represented an underground movement led by fans who favored songs
that tapped into the antisocial energy of punk but celebrated dark introspection,
tempestuous atmospherics and visual panache. Rhino brings together influential
bands that rarely or never participate in Gothic music compilations to
create a fascinating cross-section of all matters pertaining to Goth with
A Life Less Lived: The Gothic Box. This four-disc boxed set-three CDs and
one DVD-will be available September 19. [see full story for tracklistings]-

Cash
TV |
PR reports: Capitol recording artist Rosanne
Cash will perform with Steve Earle on "CMT CROSSROADS," premiering Friday,
September 15th, at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT. The two Grammy award-winning singer-songwriters
have been friends since the early 1980s and their similar paths (both have
found success in rock and country music as well as in the literary arena
with their fiercely independent works) and collaborations serve as the
foundation for this powerful, one-hour episode featuring songs from both
artists.
Cash, who is currently touring North America,
will perform at the 5th Annual Americana Honors & Awards, which will
be held on September 22nd at Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. She is nominated
for two awards "Artist Of The Year" and "Song Of The Year" (for "Black
Cadillac," the title track from Cash's latest album, released earlier this
year). The Americana Honors & Awards are produced by the Americana
Music Association, a professional trade association dedicated to building
and promoting the Americana genre.
