First To Atreyu |
punkbands reports: Update from Atreyu addressing
the From First To Last "issue." Read on: "Greetings from tour. A ton has
happened recently... First off: On Oct. 21st, Alex lost a close family
member. He would like to send both his apologies and his thanks to everyone
for being so supportive during this difficult time. A BIG thanks goes to
Woster, MA, and everyone else, who made the show a fun time while Alex
was absent attending services back home.
Now to address the FFTL issue: We are adults
and do not feel the need to drag anyone's name through the mud. We wish
Sonny a speedy recovery and hope his voice is not permentaly damaged. As
for those of you who think you know "the story" becasue "so and so told
you about it," you dont know s*** and need to get over it. They couldn't
perform as FFTL and are no longer on this tour. End of story.[see full

Ridge Free |
PR reports: The Rock Ridge Music label has
just launched a site to share its artists' music for free: www.rockridgefree.com.
One song from eight different artists will be featured at any given time
on the site; debut artists for the launch include: Redding, Tony Lucca,
Five.Bolt.Main, Psychostick, Travis Mitchell Band, Blanco Diablo, The Accident
Experiment, and Boy Hits Car. Music fans can sign up to receive email notification
when the site offerings are changed. Initially, plans are in place to rotate
available songs once a month, but more frequent content rotation is planned
after the Christmas holidays so that folks can load up their brand new
iPods.
Rock Ridge Free was created in an effort
to assist in building artist careers. "We like to share tastes of the musical
offerings from our talented artists, so that music fans can be exposed
to them and decide for themselves if they like them," say label principal
Jason Spiewak. "They can be judge and jury on the artist's success." While
the initial offerings will be from frontline label releases, Rock Ridge
plans to open the service to their online marketing clients who wish to
participate as well. [see full story for more]- Click

Slayer's
Eyes of the Insane |
HER reports: The visual madness and horrors
of war are the threads running through the just-completed promo video for
Slayer's "Eyes of the Insane," set to debut at MP3.com/Gamespot (http://wwwascap-doesnt-want-labels-to-promote-their-artists-go-with-bmi-next-time.com/)
today. The song is on the band's newest album, Christ Illusion (American
Recordings) which was released August 8 and debuted at #5 on Billboard's
Top 200 Albums' Charts, the band's highest-ever debut.
Directed by Iranian filmmaker Tony Petrossian
(Slipknot), "Eyes of the Insane" is a first-person narrative about the
horrors leading up to the final moments of a solder at war. The entire
video is a single, long and tight close-up of the soldier's eye with images
clearly reflected within his pupil and iris and perfectly choreographed
with the rhythm of the music. Reflected are disconcerting images of para
trooping into enemy territory, gunfire, helicopters and tanks, explosions,
poignant flashbacks of his wife and child and home, and the images of his
death. Two endings were filmed - one where the soldier dies from his combat
injuries, and the other where he commits suicide.- Click

2Cents
Tour |
PR reports: Unlike today's scads of posturing
pretty boys trying to cram the Extreme back into extreme music, the guys
from 2Cents (frontman/drummer extraordinaire Adam O'Rourke, bassist Jesse
Fishman and guitarists Dean Woodward and Dave O¹Rourke [Adam's older
brother]) can play. The unhinged abandon bulging from 2Cents' Gotizm/Atlantic
debut, "LOST AT SEA", isn't just a product of talent, but relentless passion
and commitment. The band isn't content with merely paying homage to the
sordid sounds of their youth, but doing something original with them. You
can hear it in the delay-soaked spaghetti western stomp of "The Mark of
My Pen." Or the technical metalcore-nodding picks of "Wired," which careen
into breakneck punk chugging before the outfit ignites a triumphant chorus
that's all their own. 2Cents are set to hit the road with Killswitch Engage
beginning November 9th. [see full story for dates]- Click

MrNorth
EP |
PR reports: Irish quartet MRNORTH is slated
to release a five-song digital EP on the Rock Ridge Music label on November
7th. Entitled "Sleeping Dogs," the EP serves as an appetizer for the New
York City-based band's full-length album, "Fear & Desire," which will
hit shelves in early 2007. The five-song virtual platter was recorded at
the same time as the forthcoming album, and both came together in three
different spats of creativity over the last 6 months. They were recorded
and mixed at Stratosphere Sounds in New York and the state-of-the-art RED
Studios in San Francisco. The band enlisted the production and engineering
prowess of Steve Lyon (Depeche Mode, The Cure) and co-mixer Keith Hilldebrant
(Nine Inch Nails), and the result is a sonic departure in that the band
finally achieved what they've wanted to for years - a record that fully
captures the massive sound and energy that pervades their dynamic live
sets.[see full story for more]- Click

Gridiron
Chief |
PR reports: Kansas City Chiefs' offensive
tackle Kyle Turley recently spoke to Sports Illustrated writer Michael
Silver about GridIron Records, the label he founded with Ex-Snot/Soulfly
guitarist Mikey Doling. An excerpt from the interview is as follows:
Silver: "Speaking of cash, what's up with
your music career?" ** Turley: "Well, I've started a record label, Gridiron
Records, and I'm planning on kicking some ass. I had a lot of downtime
when I was out for those two years, and I'd made a lot of friends in the
music industry. I hooked up with this guy named Mikey Doling, who had founded
a band called Snot out of Santa Barbara. They had played Ozzfest and were
gonna be huge but the singer got in a car crash and died, and that was
that. Mikey's a killer guitarist, and he and I would see these phenomenal
bands in Hollywood that were still unsigned, and that set the wheels in
motion: 'Dude, we need to start a label.' So, now we have our own MySpace
page at www.myspace.com/gridironrecords , and we're signing three kinds
of bands: rock, hard rock and super-heavy. We have this band called Harebrain
Scheme that sounds sort of like death metal mixed with the Beatles, 311-style
reggae and Queen. "[see full story for interview]
In the meantime, Doling has finished recording
with his new project Invitro, which also features ex-members of Los Angeles
based The Wizards. The band recently uploaded samples from their forthcoming
debut album at www.myspace.com/invitrorules and have also announced their
debut live performance November 1st, 2006 at the Whisky A Go Go in Hollywood,
CA with Bieler Bros. recording artist Ankla (ex-Puya).-

Four
Seasons Revisited |
conqueroo reports: Throughout the '60s, there
was rarely a moment that the Four Seasons didn't have a hit record on the
radio. With songs like "Sherry," "Rag Doll," "Walk Like a Man" and "Working
My Way Back to You," the Four Seasons brought their New York/New Jersey
street-corner doo-wop roots into the rock 'n' roll mainstream, and found
ways to keep the sound exciting and fans entranced - even at the height
of Beatlemania. Now that the quartet has been immortalized in the Tony-award-winning
Broadway hit musical "Jersey Boys," Collectors' Choice Music seems to have
chosen the perfect season in which to reissue 11 Four Seasons albums -
from hits to outright oddities - on four single-CD releases and two double-CD
releases. Street date for the rollout is January 9, 2007.[see full story
