Withdrawal |
PR reports: Withdrawal Merges Disparate Styles
of The Mars Volta and Broken Social Scene on Debut Hailed as "Record of
the Year" in Advance of Release, Band Returns to the Studio. The Fullerton,
CA quintet Withdrawal has returned to the studio immediately after completing
its September U.S. tour. However, this news shouldn't suggest that a followup
to its acclaimed debut The Perfectionist Blacklist is due out anytime soon.
The band spent 20 months -- that's right, 20 months -- honing the sounds
on its first album, released recently on the L.A. taste-maker label This
Generation Tapes (also responsible for the hotly-anticipated and heavily-blogged
debut by Daylight's For the Birds.) [see full story for more]-

Borden Needs Art |
PR reports: LIZZY BORDEN has signed with Coallier
Entertainment Ltd. (W.A.S.P., TWISTED SISTER). "We are all very excited
to be with Coallier Entertainment," the band said in a statement. "Touring
in all territories has been our goal for a long, long time and now with
Coallier Entertainment booking us, we can play in places that we never
have before and bring the LIZZY BORDEN show worldwide."
LIZZY BORDEN is working on a new record
and is looking to recreate the LIZZY BORDEN logo to fit with the new concept.
The logo shape has not changed very much over the years, but the inside
of the logo has gone from red with blades ("Give 'em the Axe") to a hypnotizing
green ("Visual Lies") to the American flag with exposed bones ("The Murderess
Metal Roadshow") and then finally on a contract signed by the horned one
himself ("Deal with the Devil"). Interested parties are encouraged to submit
their ideas to: www.lizzyborden.com and www.myspace.com/lizzybordenband-

Europe's
Secret Society |
Chipster reports: Few songs in the history
of hard rock can whip up a concert frenzy like "The Final Countdown." And
Europe, the composers of that anthemic classic, are back for more with
a brand new album, Secret Society, out November 7th, via Sanctuary Records.
With their original lineup - singer Joey
Tempest, guitarist John Norum, bassist John Leven, keyboardist Mic Michaeli,
and drummer Ian Haugland - back in place, Europe reunited in the early
21st century, before issuing their first studio album in thirteen years,
Start from the Dark, in 2004. Europe has also committed to giving the album
a major push via worldwide touring. Promises Norum, "We will tour Scandinavia
before Christmas and the rest of Europe in the beginning of the New Year.
After that, we are aiming to do some dates in the U.K. US and Asia and
play the summer festivals all over Europe next summer."

Cactus Halen |
Rock N Roll Universe reports: Rock N Roll
Universe Reports : In a brand new, exclusive, historic interview conducted
by Rock N Roll Universe with the surviving three members of the original
lineup of legendary hard rock band Cactus, drummer Carmine Appice, bassist
Tim Bogert and guitarist Jim McCarty discuss the recently released 'Cactus
V' album, the band's first new studio offering in 34 years. [here is a
small excerpt] Rock N Roll Universe : We were talking a little bit about
this before, that Cactus has been an influence on many rockers throughout
the years. Ted Nugent, David Coverdale, Kid Rock, and also the members
of Van Halen, have readily admitted the band's influence during interviews.
Have you ever spoken with them about that, or had any of them come to you
and tell you personally how much an influence the band has been?
Carmine Appice : Yeah. I know from the
Van Halen influence, Alex Van Halen told me many times that Cactus influenced
them. I never realized how much until I listened to, well, first of all,
they told me "Hot For Teacher" was based on "Parchman Farm." If you listen
to "Eruption," it's the same thing as the beginning of our song "Let Me
Swim." I never realized it, but if you listen to both, there's a chord,
then there's a guitar thing, then it goes "Bim, Bam, Bowmmm," it changes
the key, then there's more guitar. That's the same intro we had for "Let
Me Swim." Exactly. Then there was a part on a song they did with Sammy
Hagar that had the same exact solo as McCarty did in "Evil," the second
part of the solo. Those were just 3 incidents that I know of. I've got
a tape of Van Halen when they were young, before they made it, playing
Cactus songs in clubs. Playing Beck, Bogert & Appice also. King's X
was influenced by Cactus, they told me personally when I went on the bus
when they opened up for Blue Murder. I heard them playing Cactus on the
bus, I couldn't believe it. That was the first time I heard something.
I know Billy Sheehan was influenced by us as well. Coverdale told me he
was influenced by us. I asked Kid Rock to sing on the Cactus record, because
I heard he was influenced by us. He said yeah, he'd love to. They all love
McCarty. I know numerous times Nugent told me McCarty was his favorite
guitarist. They love the work that he did in Cactus.-
