Pablo
Debut |
Filter reports: Brooklyn based PABLO have
just released their debut album Half the Time on Curb Appeal Records on
October 24th. Their indie-folk sound immediately caught the ears of John
Richards at KEXP, who has already brought the band in for an amazing in-studio
session and is flying the band out to Seattle for KEXP's Christmas show.
They have opened for Earlimart and Matt Pond PA and are also preparing
for an appearance this week at the CMJ Festival (Nov 4th at Rockwood Music
Hall).
The music often draws comparisons to the
Replacements' gentle moments. Stand out tracks like the haunting tune "Wall
Street," the extremely soulful "Loser Crew" and "Calm Down" are earthy,
evocative and full of heart. [see full story for a free mp3]-

Bitchwaxing
America |
PR reports: BOXRIFF, the new record from The
Atomic Bitchwax. Boxriff is the band's fifth official release, and pairs
a new studio EP with a thirteen-song live document on both audio CD and
DVD. More importantly, it's the second Bitchwax package since the reconstitution
of the band featuring new guitarist/co-vocalist Finn Ryan, formerly of
Atlantic artists Core. The theory behind the new release is simple - keep
the band's forward momentum going with new studio tracks, while showing
off that they're stronger than ever in a live setting, as the new lineup
takes classic Bitchwax tunes into the stratosphere as dynamically as the
original cast ever did. For nearly five years, the band was held back by
the constant flake-outs and schedule conflicts of original guitarist Ed
Mundell, but in the two and a half years since Ryan replaced him, the band
has undertaken four North American tours, three tours of Europe, released
their 2005 full-length 3, had over a dozen songs featured in two original
MTV programs, and are hitting the road stateside again next month.

Williams Injury |
PR reports: ABIGAIL WILLIAMS drop out of Bring
Me The Horizon tour: "For those of you who have not yet heard, our drummer,
Zach Gibson, injured his wrist during the show in Edinburgh, forcing us
to drop off of the remaining dates with Bring Me The Horizon. We tried
everything in our power to prevent backing out of these shows, but there
was no one we could get to fill in on drums on such short notice and Zach
would have done more damage to his wrist if we would have tried to continue.
We apologize for anyone who bought tickets for these shows or intended
to see us on the remainder of the tour. The shows will continue as planned
without ABIGAIL WILLIAMS on the bill. With that said, we will definitely
return in the near future to make up for many of these lost shows. Thanks
to everyone who made our stay in the UK worthwhile. See you soon!" - Abigail

What Ever Happened To The Future Of Music? |
Guest editorial from Robert Kramer reports:
As an "over-40" independent musician/composer and recording artist, it
has concerned me for a long time that there seems to be very little new
"popular" rock and pop music being released that appeals to the over-40
group.
In addition, much of the music being pushed
today is dark, brooding, and depressing, filled with images of violence
and anger. Positive human emotions and character are seen as weaknesses,
while anger, violence and lack of compassion are promoted in todays music
and videos as signs of strength and virility.
Music has ceased to be "fun". Much of it
is loaded with "manufactured angst", and despite wonderful advances in
digital recording techniques, the overall quality of songwriting and the
performance of music itself has steadily declined. [see full story for
