Cancer Hits Close To Home

punkbands reports: Bassist Bradley Quinn Andress of the up-and-coming rock band Close To Home was recently diagnosed with a deadly form of cancer while on tour with his band across the U.S. Andress, 20, was told he would die when flu-like symptoms brought him into a hospital after a show and it was discovered he had a seven-inch tumor on one of his lungs. That lung was removed, but Andress will still have to undergo an additional surgery to see if the cancer has spread. 

To aid Andress in his fight against cancer, a benefit show is being scheduled in the band's hometown of Cincinnati, OH. Two tickets and on-stage seats to the Warped Tour in Cincinnati are also being auctioned off by the T.J. Martell Foundation, with proceeds going to "Brad's Fight For Cancer Fund."[see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

PC Beatles

Gigwise reports: In a controversial move, record company bosses have decided to erase the cigarettes off the front cover of a Beatles album. 

Compilation 'Capitol Albums Volume 2' gets its re-release on April 3, but the new cover (pictured above) will be devoid of cigarettes in the fab four's hands. It's not the first time a label has erased cigarettes from a Beatles cover. In the mid eighties when 'I Wanna Hold Your Hand' was re-released by EMI in America, Paul's cigarette was removed from the frame. [Wonder what Lennon might think? Perhaps? Shakira Vs FOX

TMZ reports: Shakira almost pulled the plug on her scheduled 'American Idol' performance [last night]. Sources connected with the show tell TMZ that the singer had insisted her band accompany her as she opened the show, but FOX said "no." We're told it's because FOX didn't want to ante up money for her band.

Jupiter Rising Go!

Band Attacked

Transdreamer Records reports: On the first leg of the Arab Strap tour, supporting band A Whisper In The Noise were attacked last night, March 28, at knifepoint by two thugs at the Neumos show in Seattle (located at 925 E. Pike Street).

Two drunk/drugged out-of-their mind males approached the AWITN van as they were loading the last piece of gear into the truck and enjoying one last smoke before hitting the road. Minutes after Arab Strap left the venue the youths approached the band. They attempted to grab gear and gain entry onto the van. When confronted by the AWITN bandmembers and tour manager, one of the perpetrators pulled a knife and the other sucker punched the tour manager knocking out his front teeth. They then attempted to slash the van tires before leaving the scene. Police arrived after the perpetrators fled the scene and no arrests were made. "III-In the Eyes of Fire" is our angriest, darkest, fastest and heaviest record to date. The title is a reflection of a couple different things for us. For starters it puts us in the place of our current worldly events. Last record we wrote about things brewing all around us in politics, environmental issues and war, but this record deals with the effects of those very things and the consequences we are all dealing with right now and will continue to deal with until changes are made. We are in our nations most critical point since the 60's and more importantly devastation looms in the near future if we continue to make mistake after mistake with unjust wars and environmental disregard. The title also represents the personal struggles we all face day to day and our constant battles to overcome adversity. Yakuza Video

Press Release reports: Chicago's Yakuza has posted a live video on the band's MySpace page for "Back To The Mountain." The 9-minute epic, album-closing track is taken from the recently released 'Samsara,' a record that has been receiving praise from metal and mainstream press alike. Justin Baron (Pelican, High on Fire) of Redworks Films shot the video live in late 2005 at the Double Door in Chicago. Baron is also previously responsible for the video to "Chicago Typewriter" off Yakuza's 2002's album 'Way of the Dead.'
