Contact Music reports: Former RONETTES singer
RONNIE SPECTOR has slammed the current generation of popstars as simply
manufactured acts with no real talent or originality. The BE MY BABY star
mourns the lack of individuality contemporary bands display, arguing The
Ronettes focused on music over choreography and glitz in their 1960s heyday.
Spector fumes, "I look around me and I don't see any rock 'n' roll at the
moment. Instead it's all choreography and stylists and wigs and stuff.
It's like they're afraid to let the music breathe.[Amen! see full story

Vandals
to Rock Afghanistan |
Fanscape reports: Orange County punk rock
legends the Vandals will once again take their act to the theater of war
next month as they head to Southern Asia to play for the armed forces troops
deployed in Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.
The Vandals, who first made the trek to
the region Christmas 2004/2005 playing for troops in forward operating
bases in Iraq and Kuwait, will play 4 to 6 shows in the Afghan region during
their 10 day trip beginning April 5, 2006 on a tour arranged by military
entertainment contractors AKA Productions.
Singer Dave Quackenbush said, "The most
frequently asked question we get when we tell people we are going to Iraq
or Afghanistan is, 'are you going to play for the troops?' The insurgents
aren't really interested in us, truthfully. And the only musical activity
permitted by the Taliban is the singing of certain types of religious songs,
and Taliban chants. [see full story for more]- Click

Lynch Mob Reunion |
Sleaze Roxx reports: In an exclusive interview
with Sleaze Roxx, Lynch Mob vocalist Oni Logan explains why George Lynch
turned down a recent offer to reunite the band.
Oni says, "...You see here in Europe I
was surprised to see how many people dug the Lynch Mob, and I'm not excluding
the States cause I know you're out there, but I think the promoters especially
here in Europe genuinely still believe in Rock 'n' Roll. That's why these
festivals have such a great turn out. I've been to a few and there were
always people I ran into with one question. Why don't you get the Lynch
Mob over here for some dates? So I thought why not bring up the idea. So
Anthony had the task of putting it out there, but the reply that we got
from George's camp was that he was putting together some super-group and
that he was not interested. End of story."

Sour Diversify Even More |
Day in Rock reports: In his latest MorleyView,
Morley caught up with Stone Sour's Josh Rand while the band is in the studio
recording their new album. Josh tells Morley a bit about the new CD and
the direction it is taking in the following excerpt.
antiMUSIC: So bring us up to date on how
the record is going.
Josh Rand: Right now we're in Los Angeles
doing the follow-up, obviously. We've brought in Nick Raskulinecz to help
produce this and help steer the ship. We've wrapped up drums and are working
on guitar now. We're going to track 18 songs. Probably only 12-13 will
be on the record. That's yet to be decided. They're very diverse. If you
like the first record, and certainly mainly people comment on the diversity
of that one.this one will be far and beyond that one. There's some really
heavy stuff. There's some really melodic stuff and a new direction we've
yet to go until now. It's going to be cool. I'm really excited about it.

Claymates Vs Ozzfest & DiR |
Day in Rock reports: Say what you may about
Clay Aiken fans but they are passionate about their favorite karaoke contest
runner-up. Fans that got the Ozzfest joke are a bit upset with us for posting
a clarification for those clueless ones that thought it was legit and yes
some did (a dozen or so emailed us to find out where we heard this and
one of the zillion Clay fan boards had a serious discussion on why this
made sense because Clay is trying to do new things). But in respect to
those Claymates with a sense of humor, yes we do realize that only a few
thought that posting was serious but it was funny enough for us to post
about and clarify for the clueless ones. In that same spirit, here are
portions of some of the many hatemail responses we received from Claymates:
"Of course this joke of yours was reported on Aiken's message boards, just
like any article that mentiones him would be. And if you actually read
what was said there, instead of relying on third-hand reports, you would
see that no one took it seriously. Even though Ozzfest could use a performer
who sings in tune instead of screaming or mumbling the songs like most
of their acts do. And it would have sold a lot more tickets, too." Another
Claymate wrote "those dirtbags only wish they could have a real star at
ozzFest." Our favorite was this ironic hatemail "those metal fags would
be lucky to have Clay play there stupid concert". Now who wouldn't buy
a ticket to see the crowd reaction to a Clay Aiken set at Ozzfest! Hell
that would be Pay-Per-View material. Sharon don't disappoint us, set it
up! Of course, this would only work at the first show. As for the Claymates,
keep the hate coming! We're having a blast.- Click
