Zeppelin
Reunion? |
Blabbermouth reports: Launch Radio Networks
reports: There's been no official comment, but there just might be something
brewing between LED ZEPPELIN leaders Jimmy Page and Robert Plant. The pair
has been estranged for a few years, with Plant repeatedly saying he has
no interest in revisiting the past. However, while neither man is currently
on tour, they were both in Los Angeles last week, and they stayed at the
same hotel. Of course, that could just be a coincidence, but photographer
Ross Halfin wrote in his online diary at RossHalfin.co.uk that he was with
both men in L.A. in separate incidents, and that Plant was "in town with
Jimmy Page."[Halfin also reportedly recently wrote about a "secret photoshoot"
that some thought may be for GNR but perhaps....]see full story for more]-

RIAA
Want More! |
Dailytech reports: Sirius Chief Financial
Officer David Frear believes that satellite radio companies (i.e. Sirius
and XM) shouldn't be obliged to have to pay higher royalties to record
companies -- but the RIAA feels that it should get 30% of the revenues.
Sirius and XM both already pay royalty fees to record companies so both
companies are able to play copyrighted music over the radio. Both parties
have until June 30, 2006, to reach an agreement, or an arbitrator will
then be called in to help settle the case. [see full story for more]-

Deny
Your Maker... |
contact music reports: US rockers MUTE MATH
are taking legal action against Warner Bros and Word Records for breach
of contract and negligent misrepresentation after being marketed as a Christian
act against their will. The group were started by keyboardist PAUL MEANY,
formerly of devout Christian group EARTHSUIT, and they boast a primarily
church-going fanbase. But the hitmakers feared they would be marginalised
if they were seen as a religious band[It was a great idea to sign with
a Christian label to try to find mainstream success. see full story for

Hardcore
Sellout? |
Punk Music reports: Yet another instance of
punk selling out and being used by major corporations to tap into the so-called
underground youth market. Sony Pictures Classics has picked up the rights
to American Hardcore, a documentary about the break of hardcore in America
(1980-1986). The film was featured at the Sundance Film Festival this year,
and is adapted from the Steven Blush book by the same name.
While the documentary is rad, featuring
performances by such seminal acts as Black Flag, Bad Brains, Jerry's Kids,
Suicidal Tendencies and Wasted Youth, this reeks to me of another way for
major corporations to take away our underground. [see full story for more]-

Fall
Out Boy Fall |
punkbands reports: I normally don't like the
way MTV handles news about it's top artists, but their tongue in cheek
story about Fall Out Boy's "secret" club gig in NYC deserves a mention.
Not only do the following quotes speak volumes about the music channel
itself but also how underground music has become a major selling tool for
a fashion and trend obsessed mainstream.
...by the time Fall Out took the tiny stage
at the Knitting Factory on Friday, the excitement in the crowd was palpable
(and the preteen screeches ear-splitting). Each and every raccoon-eyed
girl and angular-haired guy in the audience believed that they were part
of something underground, something that the cheerleaders and jocks had
no idea was happening.... About the only un-slick, unscripted moment came
at set's end, as Wentz climbed to the Knitting Factory's upper balcony
and prepared to take a plunge into the waiting arms of the crowd. The only
problem was the crowd didn't quite seem to know what to do, and as Wentz
leapt, fans only sort of caught him, and he went "down, down" (hard) to
the concrete floor... [see full story for more]- Click
