Retro
Old 97's |
PR reports: Rhino Records will be releasing
an Old 97's retrospective, Hit By A Train: The Best Of Old 97's, on June
20th. The 1st-ever retrospective from these pop-savvy roots rock icons
spans 1994-2001 including 18 songs from the band's first five studio albums,
plus singles, live performances and a soundtrack contribution. Includes
indie-era standouts ("Stoned," "Victoria"), the cream of their Elektra
catalog ("Timebomb," "Niteclub"), and two live cuts ("Barrier Reef," "Nineteen").
The Old 97's, led by Rhett Miller, have
a rich, organic sound that effortlessly fuses roots rock, alt-country,
and pure pop. Known for the raw intensity of their live shows and the authentic
Americana punch of their recordings, the band formed in Dallas in the early
'90s. Their early singles and 1994 indie debut, Hitchhike To Rhome, led
to a trio of critically acclaimed and crowd-pleasing albums for Elektra,
beginning with 1997's stellar Too Far To Care and running through 2001's
Satellite Rides.

Frampton
Comes Again |
PR reports: As a boy growing up in England,
Peter Frampton adored the music of instrumental bands like the Shadows
and the Ventures, as well as a potpourri of the popular jazz, blues and
classical guitarists that were vital to youth at the time. Before long,
he set out on an influential career in music of his own, eventually selling
out arenas and garnering multi-platinum sales. Frampton returns to his
roots with Fingerprints, finally culminating his lifelong dream of recording
an instrumental album in the spirit of his first musical heroes. A&M/New
Door Records/UME will release the album September 12. [see full story for

Beach
Products |
PR reports: The surf's always up, the sun
is forever at high noon and the summer never ends in the fun and frenetic
life of founding Beach Boy member Al Jardine, who has his customary slate
of exciting activities happening throughout 2006-including dates with his
own Endless Summer Band (which includes sons Matt and Adam), a pending
endorsement deal with a bottled water company, and an upcoming limited
edition Signature Fender Guitar based on the classic 1962 Stratocaster
he used on tour in the 70s and 80s.
For Jardine, "Endless Summer" isn't simply
the name of his band or a perpetual state of mind-it's also a brand. His
Endless Summer Brand, an extension of the harmonies of sun, surf and music,
is being developed as a license for application on products in virtually
every merchandise category. From sunscreen to schnapps, board wax to wearables,
the label will resonate the popular theme, offering shoppers a never ending
summer experience.[sounds like someone has been hanging out with Gene Simmons...
