Black Flag Tribute
Adrenaline PR reports: Originally released in the summer of 2003 by the late, great Louisville label Initial Records, Black On Black: A Tribute To Black Flag was a nine song disc that showcased a group of bands that felt a kinship in a sea of mediocrity in aggressive music. Perhaps their love of bands like Black Flag, a bit off the beaten path from bands mainstream acts like Good Charlotte and Simple Plan (or other bands the mainstream thinks of as "punk"), brought them together to make the compilation. However, Initial Records was plagued by debt and the company folded without giving Black On Black the kind of push many felt it deserved.

Enter ReIgnition Recordings. After realizing success with their Bring You To Your Knees: A Tribute To Guns N Roses, and the upcoming release of The Killer In You: A Tribute To Smashing Pumpkins, Siegel and ReIgntion felt it was a true tragedy that the world would not have a chance to hear Converge's crushing rendition of "Annihilate This Week" or The Dillinger Escape Plan's cathartic "Damaged." Thus, Andy Rich of Initial agreed to let ReIngition re-release the tribute with six bonus tracks (Bleeding Through, Black Dahlia Murder, Most Precious Blood, and more), a re-mastered sound, and brand new packaging. Black On Black: A Tribute To Black Flag was re-born. Release date: March 14th, 2006 worldwide[see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Little Willies
Special Ops reports: On March 7, 2006, Milking Bull Records will release the self-titled debut by The Little Willies, an album that perfectly distills the fun, down-to-earth spirit of this New York band's club shows. The group Lee Alexander (bass), Jim Campilongo (electric guitar), Norah Jones (piano, vocals), Richard Julian (guitar, vocals) and Dan Rieser (drums) tears through a mix of covers and originals, from the revved-up western swing of Fred Rose's "Roly Poly" and Willie Nelson's "I Gotta Get Drunk" to the cutting wit of Kris Kristofferson's "Best Of All Possible Worlds"; from the poignancy of Townes Van Zandt's "No Place To Fall" to the cosmic absurdity of their own "Lou Reed."[see full story for hear "I gotta get drunk"]- Click Here for the Full Story

Brian Jones Mystery
Cornerstone reports: Screen Media Films in association with Intandem Films are set to release the biopic, STONED, a film about Brian Jones, a founding member of The Rolling Stones, on March 24th in select theaters nationwide.

Brian Jones was the consummate artist, pop star, fashion icon & womanizer. During the seven short years of his glittering rise to stardom and fateful plummet between 1962 - 1969 he became a music legend, creating The Rolling Stones one of the greatest rock and roll bands ever. Having reinvented the Blues, he nonchalantly turned his back on the world of pop and found more pleasure in scoring movies and recording ethnic music in Morocco.

This is not a film about one of The Rolling Stones - this is a murder mystery about the death of one of the most talented musicians of the 60's who couldn't or wouldn't write pop songs.[see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Flaming Lips Vs Popstars
Day in Rock reports: Wayne from The Flaming Lips sent out a track by track on the group's new album to give fans an insight into the songs on the CD. Below is one of the tracks that in part goes after cheerleader mentality of "hokey hyped-up pop groups"

THE SOUND OF FAILURE / We have some friends whose father was dying of cancer - I say "was" because it (the cancer and his death) dragged on agonizingly for over a year - and they (our friends) were becoming, understandably, weary of being forced to be upbeat... And I remember hearing a comment once about how annoying it was, to them, to have to hear this gratingly jubilant fake enthusiasm (usually hokey hyped-up pop groups like Black Eyed Peas, Destiny's Child, Ashlee Simpson, Hillary Duff, etc.) blasting out of the "Muzak" systems virtually everywhere they went. To them this cheerleader-type assault was really only effective if you didn't actually have any real psychic stress...And they felt that it was, surprisingly, helpful to them to try to understand their fears and their sadness - as opposed to pretending that it's "all good." And, you see, this is true insight... finally we know it's okay to have a troubled mind, it's okay to fail... And so this song (which was written in the car on the way up to New York from Oklahoma while I drove and Steven played battery powered keyboard and computer) is about a young girl whose best friend has died, and everywhere she goes (like the friends I mentioned earlier) she must endure the empty optimism of the inexperienced. She wants to know, since it has arrived, what is despair, what is hope, what is failure...And what is in the darkness??[see full story for the rest of this story as well as the other songs on the CD]- Click Here for the Full Story
