Singer
Suicide |
Blabbermouth reports: Swedish heavy metal
musician Jon Nödtveidt, 31, was found dead on Wednesday, August 16
at his apartment in Hässelby, a suburb of Stockholm. He shot himself
in the head and was surrounded by lit candles, Expressen reports. Shortly
before the ritual suicide, he sent farewell letters to his father and his
girlfriend and explained to a friend, "I'm going away for a long, long
time. I'm going to Transylvania."
Sometime between Monday (Aug. 14) and Wednesday,
Nödveidt, vocalist and guitarist in the popular Swedish black metal
band Dissection, chose to take his own life.
At 7:21 p.m. CET on Wednesday, a police
patrol reported to the police communication center in Stockholm that a
man had been found dead, the apparent victim of a self-inflicted gunshot
wound. According to several of Expressen's sources, the singer had placed
an open copy of "The Satanic Bible" in front of him before pulling the
trigger.[see full story for more]- Click

Cantrell
Assaulted |
Metal Sludge reports: The post below was taken
from the World Famous Metal Sludge Gossip Board. It seems that this unfortunate
incident ended the concert abruptly. Hopefully the scum bag will be identified
and arrested for this.
Got home a little while ago from Alice's
free show at the Del Mar racetrack in San Diego. What was a great show
ended abruptly during the second chorus of Man In The Box when some a**hole
pegged Cantrell in the face with a bottle. He threw his guitar down and
stormed off stage and that was it. Can't say I blame him. [see full story

MySpace
Virus? |
punkbands reports: Users of the popular MySpace
website have been warned by computer experts that viruses linked to the
interactive site, which boasts more than one million regular users, are
in circulation. Experts believe that hackers have hit the hugely popular
site and say the viruses in circulation can change settings, delete files,
secretly track users' movements online and even damage computers.
They believe that the hackers have hidden
dangerous software on the site which means that computers can be attacked
unaware to users while they are just viewing pages. [see full story for

Tool Butchering? |
Blabbermouth reports: METALLICA guitarist
Kirk Hammett reportedly joined TOOL onstage during their headlining appearance
at the Blaisdell Concert Hall in Honolulu, Hawaii on Friday (August 18).
According to one TOOL fan's eyewitness account posted at the ToolNavy.com
web site, TOOL frontman Maynard James Keenan introduced Hammett by saying,
"We have a special guest tonight. He's not [unintelligible], and he's not
Elvis. Well, maybe he's their bastard son, Mr. Kirk Hammett." "[Kirk] then
proceeded to come out and play guitar on 'Sober'. I've never been partial
to METALLICA, and for those of you who are, I'm sorry to report that Kirk
damn near butchered the song. His drunken so-called 'solo' was particularly
sloppy and completely extraneous. Only the band coming back through to
thrash the rest of the song out extremely hard saved it.[see full story

News: Pot Calls Kettle Black |
hecklerspray reports: Justin Timberlake ain't
good for much. Sure, he can rip patches of clothing off soon-to-be fat
black women, write the most annoying McDonalds catch phrase ever, and not
date Britney Spears anymore, but really, what's that all add up to? Nada
- it all adds up to nada. So Justin Timberlakehates Taylor Hicks. Apparently
this boiling contempt has really been pent up, because Justin Timberlake
opened his mouth just a little bit, and it all came spouting out. Here's
a whole bunch of his derogatory remarks regarding Hicks: "the guy who
won-people think he looks so normal, and he's so sweet, and he's so earnest,
but he can't carry a tune in a bucket."
Then he up and said: "If he has any skeletons
whatsoever, if God forbid, he's gay, and all these people in Mississippi
who voted for him are like, 'Oh, my God, I voted for a queer!'" [click

Sepultura
Semi Reunion |
Blabbermouth reports: SOULFLY's official web
site was updated with the following message: "The 10th annual D-Low Memorial
show is over and we thank you all for making it a huge success. The show,
which was opened by NORTH SIDE KINGS and INCITE, sold out and it was a
very historic night for SOULFLY. The band was joined on stage by many friends
from their past including Danny Marianinho of NORTH SIDE KINGS (on 'Defeat
U'), Richie Cavalera of INCITE (on 'Bleed' and 'Stay Strong'), [former
MEGADETH bassist] Dave Ellefson (on 'Prophecy' and 'Defeat U'), and their
former longtime drummer Roy Mayorga (on 'No Hope = No Fear') who currently
plays with STONE SOUR. But most importantly, Max was reunited onstage for
the first time in 10 years with his brother Igor Cavalera. Max and Igor
formed SEPULTURA together in the early 1980s, but have not played together
since the band split in 1996. Igor joined the band mid-way through the
set for a jam on the drums and stayed onstage to play the SEPULTURA classics
'Roots Bloody Roots' and 'Attitude' with the guys!"[see full story for

L.A.
Twangless |
AP reports: LOS ANGELES - There is a tear
in the beer of country music fans here. After more than 20 years on the
air, the city's only country music station, KZLA-FM, abruptly left the
air Thursday and was seamlessly replaced with the rhythmic pop of "Movin'
93.9," which plays artists such as Beyonce, Janet Jackson and Jennifer
Lopez.
The transition by Emmis Communications
was swift and shocking for listeners, who heard George Strait and Keith
Urban in the morning and Pink and the Black Eyed Peas by lunchtime. Even
the station's veteran morning crew, including Peter Tilden, didn't know
of the format change until just minutes before it happened. [see full story
