Beat Metalhead |
Metal Underground reports: Brock Parker of
Alabama's WTVM News Leader 9 is reporting that a teenager at a Christian
heavy metal concert was brutalized by police this past Saturday night (Sept.
3).
Witnesses at The Breaker Box club in Lanett,
Alabama say the teenager was calling home to get a ride when police threw
him into a light pole and then onto the ground.
"I saw two Lanett police officers. One
of them grabbed a young black male, head-locked him, ran him into this
pole, slammed him to the ground, put their knee in his back and cuffed
him," John Keith told WTVM News Leader 9. That's when the lead singer of
ONLY AFTER FAITH grabbed his video camera[see full story for more]-

Creed
Sued By Label |
MTV reports: You might think Wind-Up Records
isn't too happy about its business arrangement with Creed, since the label
filed a lawsuit against former Creed members Mark Tremonti, Scott Phillips
and Scott Stapp seeking "discharge of any liability to pay them royalties."
But Wind-Up says the suit isn't representative of any animosity, but rather
seeks clarification for just how and to whom those royalties should be
paid. [see full story for more]- Click

Doors Downed by Katrina |
MTV reports: In Biloxi, Mississippi, where
3 Doors Down got their start, Katrina did severe damage to several of the
bandmembers' homes.
"Chris [Henderson], our guitar player,
has eight feet of water in his house," singer Brad Arnold said. "He built
a studio for us to write in and it's not thoroughly destroyed, but just
because it's not leveled, doesn't mean it's fixable. There's also a few
people in Chris' family that they don't know about. And Todd [Harrell,
bassist] just bought a plantation house in the country and the roof got
ripped off of it."[see full story for more]- Click

CBGB
Eviction |
Punkbands reports: If it wasn't obvious to
Hilly Kristal last week that his landlord was serious about wanting to
cut its ties with CBGB, it is now. Wednesday afternoon one week after
his lease with the nonprofit homeless services organization the Bowery
Residents' Committee expired Kristal was served with an eviction notice
to vacate the building where he established the club more than three decades
ago. Muzzy Rosenblatt, the BRC's executive director, revealed last week
that his organization intends to find a new tenant for the space which
has always housed CBGB, considered the birthplace of the American punk
movement.
Kristal and the Save CBGB Coalition responded
to the eviction notice in a statement issued late last night: "There is
no valid reason why CBGB should leave our present historic location. All
we want is the same thing [New York Governor George Pataki, New York City
Mayor Michael Bloomberg] and 43 City Council members want that is to
sit down with the BRC and negotiate in good faith a new lease that is fair
to all parties."[see full story for more]- Click

Purevolume
Rigged? |
Day in Rock reports: A publicist for Drive-Thru
Records sent out an interesting email this week. Since the heading was
"News To Post" we figured he wanted it posted, so here it is : Just an
observation. But are labels paying to be listed in the top ten chart on
purevolume.com. If you check right now the top ten signed artist chart
you will notice underoath is listed as number 10. With around 5000 plays.
But if you check www.purevolume.com/allister you will notice they have
over 8000 plays. This is just something I noticed. Something to keep in
mind when you check out the top ten on purevolume.com (of course we have
done absolutely no research on this, except to look at the Top 10 and compare
the plays against the one mentioned in the email and he was right)-

have currently finished their sixth CD, Born Again. "Things have changed
so much in the business the past few years," explains bassist Jerry Dixon,

from labels just based on hearing some of the unfinished music." The album
