Punks
Vs Microsoft |
punkbands reports: Our friends at punknews.org
reports - Former Ink & Dagger drummer Ryan McLaughlin has filed suit
against software and gaming behemoth Microsoft. According to court papers
filed by McLaughlin's lawyer last month, the suit calls for unspecified
damages in a jury trial.
The problem stems from what McLaughlin
claims as the unlicensed use of three tracks from the influential goth-hardcore
act and their 1998 album The Fine Art of Original Sin. The tracks in question,
"The Fine Art of Original Sin (GFS Resonant Mix)," "The History in Ecstasy"
and "VampireFastCode ver. 1.5." were used by the company in their 2001
snowboarding game Amped for their XBOX game console. [see full story for

Boy
George Homophobe? |
Contact Music reports: [couldn't resist this
one]Pop star GEORGE MICHAEL has blasted singer/DJ BOY GEORGE for acting
"homophobic" towards fellow gay men.
"He acts in a homophobic way to other gay
men by being such a bitch. It's an aggression that he can't get rid off."
Earlier this year (05), Boy George said,
"People saw me as the benchmark queer while George was passing himself
off as a straight stud. In fact, he was loitering in public loos (toilets)
like some pre-war homosexual. It's one thing to keep quiet. It's another
to pretend you're someone you're not." [see full story for more of the

Sonygate? |
tinfoil.music reports: BusinessWeek: Sony
BMG is in a catfight with a well-known computer-security outfit that became
aware of the software problem on Sept. 30 and notified the music company
on Oct. 4 -- nearly a month before the issue blew up. F-Secure, a Finland-based
antivirus company that prides itself on being the first to spot new malware
outbreaks, says Sony BMG didn't understand the software it was introducing
to people's computers and was slow to react.
"If [Sony] had woken up and smelled the
coffee when we told them there was a problem, they could have avoided this
trouble," says Mikko H. Hypponen, F-Secure's director of antivirus research.

Deadheads
Boycott Dead |
tinfoil.music reports: RollingStone: Grateful
Dead fans, perhaps rock's most dedicated bunch, are taking a stand against
the band they love. Until recently, Deadheads could download countless
live recordings of the band for free from third-party sites, including
the popular Live Music Archive (archive.org), which once hosted nearly
3,000 Grateful Dead shows. All of the downloads were pulled last week at
the request of Grateful Dead Merchandising (GDM), the group that handles
official products for the band and is overseen by its surviving members.
Deadheads have answered in protest. In
an online petition, fans have pledged to boycott GDM -- including CDs and
concert tickets -- until the decision is reversed. [see full story for
