Motley
Sues NBC |
BW&BK reports: The New York Times is reporting
that MÖTLEY CRÜE filed suit against NBC Tuesday (May 24) alleging
that the network violated the group's free-speech rights and weakened its
sales by banning it after Vince Neil, the lead singer, used an expletive
on the air in a Dec. 31 appearance on "The Tonight Show".
The lawsuit, filed in a federal court in
Los Angeles, accuses the network of censoring the band to mollify a Federal
Communications Commission that has been increasingly quick to levy steep
fines for broadcasting indecent material on television and radio. The lawsuit
says the network, which banned the group after Mr. Neil inserted an expletive
into his New Year's greeting to Motley Crue's drummer, Tommy Lee, added
insult to injury by promoting a summer reality series featuring Mr. Lee.

Madonna
Stole Song? |
E! reports: A European songwriter is looking
to freeze Madonna out of some cold cash.
Belgian composer Salvatore Acquaviva is
suing the Material Mommy, accusing her of ripping off parts of his song
for her 1998 worldwide hit "Frozen" off the multiplatinum-selling album
Ray of Light.
The suit, filed in the city of Mons, claimed
Madonna's minor-key ditty plagiarized several bars of his track "Ma Vie
Fout L'camp (My Life's Getting Nowhere)", written five years before. [see

Leno
Defends Jacko |
AP reports: Jay Leno stopped making fun of
Michael Jackson just long enough to testify for the pop star at his child
molestation trial Tuesday, saying that he grew suspicious of effusive and
seemingly scripted phone calls from Jackson's young accuser.
The "Tonight Show" host's account
of calls from the boy came before Chris Tucker took the stand and defense
attorney Thomas Mesereau Jr. told the court that the "Rush Hour" star would
be the last witness indicating Jackson will not testify. [see full story

Limp
Sales |
New York Daily News reports:
...[Fred Durst's] Einstein of an idea to
shoot the seven-song EP "The Unquestionable Truth (Part 1)" into stores
this month while barely whispering a word to anyone outside his record
company and his official Web site.
The philosophy, according to a knowledgeable
source, was to build a buzz through the fan site to prove the power of
Durst's connection to "the people." Media, be damned.
Unfortunately for the band, it hasn't quite
worked out that way.
The stealth CD opened on the Billboard
charts at an awful No. 24 with flaccid sales of 37,083. In this, its second
week, it free-fell to No. 82 and is sure to dive-bomb further from there.

BW&BK reports: MEGADETH leader Dave Mustaine
has posted the following message in the Forum section of the band's website:
"Droogies! I am nearing the end of the
selection of my guests to entertain y'all this summer on the Second Stage.
As far as I see it, the choices are down to just a few and the most likely
to succeed are LIFE OF AGONY or MUSHROOMHEAD. There are some other contenders
still but if the decision came down today, the aforementioned two are probably
the finalists. [see full story for more]- Click
