AC/DC
Beat Jacko |
antiMusic reports: Jacko may have won his
trial but the Thunder from Down Under, AC/DC, have put his King of Pop
title in question. Plus Gene Simmons can not be pleased that he has been
beat by the Carpenters and Sade. Want to add insult to injury? Motley Crue,
a band that once was kicked out of an opening slot on a KISS tour beat
Gene and Company too. This according the RIAA's latest best selling figures
for albums in the U.S. In fact, KISS didn't even make the Top 100. Some
other numbers that might be shocking; did you know that AC/DC has outsold
The Rolling Stones, Madonna, Bruce Springsteen and the so called King of
Pop, Michael Jackson?
The RIAA list was updated last week and
indicates collective album sales for artists in the U.S. Of course, The
Beatles topped the list with combined unit sales of 168.5 million in the
US. Elvis was a distant second with 116.5 million with Led Zeppelin rounding
out the Top 3 with 107.5 million albums sold in the US.

Fan
Death Not From Moshing |
Blabbermouth reports: The 26-year-old heavy
metal fan who passed away during this past weekend's Pressure Festival
in Germany died from complications brought about by a pre-existing heart
condition and not as a result of injuries sustained while taking part in
an aggressive form of slam-dancing, police in Bochum, Germany announced
on Tuesday (June 28). The cause of Marco Grewen's death was found to be
unrelated to the extreme type of "moshing" called "wall of death," a form
of concert dancing where the crowd is split down the middle and on the
signal, both sides ram into each other. [see full story for more]-

Nike
Explains Punk Ripoff |
punkbands reports: Nike Skateboarding responded
today to a request made by Punknews.org regarding the earlier stories about
the use of Minor Threat-styled imagery in advertising for the Major Threat
tour. Here is the statement: "June 27, 2005 To Minor Threat, Dischord Records
and fans of both Re: Major Threat East Coast Tour Poster
Nike Skateboarding sincerely apologizes
for the creation of a tour poster inspired by Minor Threat's album cover.
Despite rumors being circulated, Wieden & Kennedy and Odopod had nothing
to do with the creation of this tour poster and should not be held accountable.
To set the record straight, Nike Skateboarding's "Major Threat" Tour poster
was designed, executed and promoted by skateboarders, for skateboarders.
All of the Nike employees responsible for the creation of the tour flyer
are fans of both Minor Threat and Dischord records and have nothing but
respect for both. [see full story for more of the statement]-

Queen
Musical Tour |
Blabbermouth reports: Launch Radio Networks
reports: The Broadway debut of the QUEEN musical "We Will Rock You" has
been put off indefinitely. Instead of making plans to bring the show to
New York City any time soon, QUEEN guitarist Brian May told Launch that
it will hit a number of other cities first. "The plan is to tour it in
the States next year," he said. "That's what we plan to do. We had a hard
time in the West End to begin with, you know, because it is very much not
West End-sort of traditional ways of doing things, and we got really slagged
off. To go in to Broadway, I think, would be a similar experience, and
I think we would rather get across that it is a, a rock show before we
go into that sort of territory." [see full story for more]-
