Bobby
Purify Returns |
conqueroo reports: Bobby Purify, whose rich,
melodious voice enhanced hits by the duo James & Bobby Purify, has
come out of retirement with the help of producer and songwriter Dan Penn
and several legendary players of the American Soul era. The resulting album,
titled Better to Have It, is due to hit the streets July 19 on Proper American
Recordings, distributed by Ryko Distribution.
In recording the album, Purify surrounded
himself with an R&B brain trust. Penn produced the album, and co-wrote
12 new songs specifically for it with Carson Whitsett and Hoy "Bucky" Lindsey.
The album also features one new Purify original, "What's Old To You." Key
members of the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section (Spooner Oldham, keyboards;
David Hood, bass; Jimmie Johnson, guitar) and others, such as Carson Whitsett
of Malaco fame, keyboards; along with Reggie Young of Memphis, lead guitar;
and Wayne Jackson of the Memphis Horns; came together at Dandy Studio in
Nashville on a 16-track analog tape recorder. Legendary producer Jerry
Wexler provided sleeve notes. If ever there existed a fertile environment
to make a great soul record, this was it. - Click

Amped |
i.e. marketing reports: On May 29, 2004, AMPED
performed live on the side stage at the Molson Amphitheatre for the sold-out
Blink 182 concert. As usual, the audience reaction to AMPED was overwhelming,
with thousands of new fans jumping on the AMPED bandwagon. AMPED was selected
as one of Canada's most promising unsigned bands to participate in the
Budweiser True Music Program and as one of the featured bands, they continued
to receive a myriad of press and publicity across all forms of media.
AMPED is looking to take their career to
the next level. Just prior to Canada's biggest music festival, 500,000
viewers were introduced to AMPED when the CTV National News featured them
as one of Canada's hottest independent bands. Consequently, their showcase
performance at Sneaky Dees was a huge success and received rave reviews.
Chart Attack's CMW Report Card rated AMPED as one of the top 11 acts, scoring
a 91 out of 100. In fact, after seeing their show, Greg Simpson of Mindbenders
Music stated, "their showcase at Sneaky Dees during Canada Music Week was
the best audience reaction I've ever seen at one of these gigs." [see full
