Megadeth
Appeal |
Blabbermouth reports: Former MEGADETH bassist
David Ellefson's attorney, Randall Jacobs, has filed a notice of appeal
in connection with a suit filed by Ellefson against MEGADETH singer-guitarist
Dave Mustaine, a co-founding member of the metal band, and the group's
corporate entities, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The suit, filed in July 2004, alleged that
Ellefson was entitled to a greater share of the band's profits than he
was paid . U.S. District Judge Naomi Reice Buchwald of New York, N.Y.,
ruled on January 13, 2005 that Ellefson has no valid claims against MEGADETH,
Dave Mustaine or anyone else, holding that Ellefson had entered into a
valid settlement agreement with the band in May 2004, and released all
of his claims in that agreement.[see full story for more]-

Killer Executed |
Blabbermouth reports: A Texas death row inmate
who chanted the chorus to METALLICA's "No Remorse" after fatally shooting
a man in the head in Corpus Christi and robbing him of $13 twenty years
ago was executed Tuesday (Jan. 25), according to The Associated Press.
The execution came after the U.S. Supreme
Court refused on a narrow 5-4 vote to block Troy Kunkle's execution.
Kunkle was contrite as he looked toward
the daughter and son-in-law of his victim, Stephen Horton, and sought their
forgiveness.
"I would like to ask you to forgive me,"
he said. "I made a mistake and I am sorry for what I did. All I can do
is ask you to forgive me." [see full story for more]-

Ray
Leads Oscars |
Reuters reports: Ray Charles was an international
star for five decades, but in Hollywood the complicated piano man was long
considered box-office poison.
When director Taylor Hackford started pitching
a project about the "genius of soul" more than 15 years ago, no studios
were interested. Music-themed pictures are a tough sell, especially when
the subject is an old, blind, black man.
"Ray" eventually got made and received
an official seal of approval on Tuesday with six Academy Award nominations,
