Collective Soul Return to The Road

BBC reports: British pop star Seal has condemned rap stars for their derogatory treatment of women in lyrics and videos. 

He told black entertainment magazine Sister 2 Sister that it was damaging for black culture. 

"It's sad when you see the rappers on TV and in the videos making these derogatory videos towards women ... kind of like sexual objects," he said.

Rockdirt reports: Neil Sean of Sky News reports that Sharon Osbourne's life is set to become a television movie. The Osbourne matriarch is secretly working on the project and hopes her daughter Kelly can play the role of the young Sharon. "It has great potential but it will be hard to cast someone to play Ozzy," Sharon told a spy. "He is rather unique, you see, and it will take a big man to fill those shoes." Blabbermouth reports: Susan Bray, mother of Nathan Bray, one of the four victims of last month's nightclub shooting in Columbus, Ohio, has sent the following message to BLABBERMOUTH.NET: 

"This was a GREAT benefit concert held in Columbus, OH at the Newport Music Hall on January 7, 2005. It was held for the families of Nathan Bray and Erin Halk. 

"What I am asking is if anybody out there finds a frisbee disc signed by all the original members of PANTERA for sale to contact me, The Blitz (99.7) or anybody to get it back. You see, some scumbag stole it from the venue that night. This item was donated for auction. I just can't believe somebody would do such a thing. Unearth Rescue KSE
Blabbermouth reports: KILLSWITCH ENGAGE frontman Howard Jones was forced to sit out the band's performance in Toronto on Sunday (Jan. 9) due to a "blown-out" throat (as guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz put it in a public announcement before their set). Trevor Phipps from support act UNEARTH joined KILLSWITCH ENGAGE on stage for a few songs, despite having little knowledge of the lyrics. Two fans who apparently knew the songs were also pulled from the crowd to help out in the vocal department, with one managing to sing the entire song "When Darkness Falls". KISS Wig
Blabbermouth reports: A wig purportedly used by KISS guitarist/vocalist Paul Stanley during the making of the group's 1989 video, "Rise to It", is currently being auctioned on eBay. A message on the auction page from the seller, Alexx Michael from the band SHAMELESS, reads as follows:

Rock Boat Bust
MTV reports: As 1,800 fans boarded the Bahamas-bound ship at its port in Jacksonville, Florida, they were met by police and drug-sniffing dogs. A dozen people were arrested for attempting to pass through U.S. Customs with illegal substances. 

The Jam Cruise is an annual four-day excursion that features performances, autograph sessions and related events with several major acts from the jam-band genre. This year's cruise featured Karl Denson's Tiny Universe, Galactic, Umphrey's McGee, Les Claypool's Frog Brigade and 20 other bands and DJs.

 Searches conducted by United States Customs officials, with the assistance of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Department, yielded an assortment of illegal substances, including ecstasy, marijuana, cocaine, heroin, hashish and brownies laced with marijuana. Jacko Trial Child Stars
MTV reports: If Santa Barbara County prosecutors have their way, Michael Jackson's child-molestation trial will include more celebrity appearances on the witness stand than just his own. 

Prosecutors want to hear testimony from seven other people allegedly sexually linked to Jackson, in order to establish a pattern of behavior, according to ABC News. On their list is said to be a well-known child actor and an Australian who now works in Hollywood, most likely meaning Macaulay Culkin or Corey Feldman and pop choreographer Wade Robson. Isley Vs IRS
E! Online reports: Ronald Isley plans to fight the power--of the IRS, that is. Isley, a founding member of the legendary Isley Brothers, pleaded innocent Monday to tax evasion charges. 

Specifically, the feds claim he failed to report performance and royalty income to the agency.

Universal Top Label of 04
Punkbands.com reports: Universal Music sold more music than any other label in 2004. At the close of play on New Year's Eve, Universal recorded a 29.59% share for 2004 in the USA according to Neilsen-SoundScan. BMG was in number two spot with 15.20% of the market but even when combined with Sony Music to create the new Sony-BMG figure Universal was still in front with Sony-BMG combined registering a 28.46% share.

Xfm reports: Embrace, Manic Street Preachers, Snow Patrol and Badly Drawn Boy are the latest bands confirmed to play the huge Tsunami Relief Concert at The Millennium Stadium in Cardiff on January 22.

 Last week guitar legend Eric Clapton announced he would be making a rare live appearance when he performs at the concert backed by Jools Holland and The Rhythm & Blues Orchestra.
